We can argue whether Booker is worth a max deal but there is no arguing the suns cannot afford to have an issue with Booker right now.

agree.

Should they have called him right after Ulis? Sure. But telling him first before Ulis is beyond unprofessional. Then Ulis could have bitched and complained that they told Booker first and been butt hurt and that might have pissed Booker off.

Bottom line... stop bringing in star players' best friends, bad brothers and second cousins to curry favor. Get them to want to be here by WINNING.
I don't think they brought Ulis to curry favor. I think they were looking for a pg and valued Booker's evaluation. Ulis looked pretty good, to begin with until teams figured out how to deal with him. If Booker is upset, its on him, no two ways about it. This is a business and we need to get better at pg, period.

True! Sarver is not acting from a position of power, but rather squirming because he went back on his word to Booker.

What a dork! He and his errand boy don't have the slightest idea how to prep for negotiations.

Now we'll find out if they know how to negotiate. Booker's agent will probably have a field day with them.

If only we had an experienced, authoritative negotiator. Yup, we are still a small town team.

What do you expect to be negotiated? Length - check
Amount - check

Uh, what else?

I have been reading all of the posts but not participating. It seems to me that it is not about if or when Booker was or wasn't apprised. Or generalizations about the team and friends.

It is about the Suns Front Office announcing to the Press and fans previously that DBooker would be involved in personnel decisions, then not following through. That seems to be what Devin is reacting to.

By now he should know that Sarver and his errand boy McDonough are inexperienced and unprofessional. Sadly, that means that he will look for greener pastures as soon as he can.

They not only betrayed Booker, they betrayed Suns fans hoping that, with the #1 draft pick, we would finally be professional and competitive. I was wondering when we got Ayton how long it would take the Suns to mess it up.

As the old saying goes, Sarver and McDonough would f*** up a wet dream. :thumbdown:thumbdown

Oh well...For Booker to bail he has to finish out his contract(s) and end up leaving Ayton.

I'll worry about crossing that bridge when we come to it. For now I could care less...

they really need to just hire a new GM. One who doesn't perpetually piss our players off.

my guess is that happens after this season.
How would any other GM have done it any differently? This front office drafted Ulis and gave him more of a legit shot at leading a team than any other team would have done. Booker needs to quit crying and tell McD thanks for giving his buddy a shot at the big time. AND he needs to thank them for treating Ulis like a pro and releasing him while free agent dollars are still available so he can get on with another team.

There really shouldn't be a whole lot of negotiating. Booker going to say I want a max deal, suns will say ok. If Booker were to come out and bash the organization it would be a disaster

Sigh. More name calling? Really? How would YOU have prepped for negotiations? Oh, and what would your goal be as a GM in these negotiations?

They should pay him whatever they can get away with. It won't be max.

Nah...almost max but not max
Define "almost max" because if it is close to max they may as well just offer max. No reason to get cute with negotiations. There is also precedence for a max contract because of guys like Wiggins getting the max and Booker is certainly better than Wiggins was before he got his deal.
