Hey, i'll take Howard as a Marion replacement. :D They are really undervaluing him. He's worth a few more mil. per year.

You think the Suns are screweing boris, the mavs first offer for howard was in 5 year 27 million dollar range. Man Cuban is such a cheap bastard.

I think we're still seeing a lot of posturing until the deadline in the boris deal, as we are with howard.
Of course if boris doesn't get done i'll be the first to rip sarver a new one.

This would seemingly be a joke if it were not reportedly true. I would love for the Suns to take Josh Howard off their hands. :)

wow - 5 for 27. I've been saying 8 for Boris is insulting, but that contract offer brings new meaning to the word.

18 days and counting - get it done Sarver/DA.

Ouch. It's really coming down to it isn't it? I thin you have to sign him. He's a versitile player and is healthy.

Wow. Less than the MLE? I'm not a huge fan of Howard but he is clearly worth more than that.

Maybe the owners are ummm... spontaneously all deciding to watch the purse strings. Serendipity, except it'll probably reinforce Sarver's resistance to paying Boris an extra mill or so a year.

Wow. Considering that Cuban lowballed Nash and ended up losing him to a conference rival because of it, I'm amazed that they are offering that little money to a guy who looks like a great young player, and basically got Dallas past us in the playoffs last season. Although I'm aware that Howard is only restricted so his and Nash's situations were different.

Even so, Mark Cuban with his newfound cheap streak is starting to make Sarver look like, well, Mark Cuban of old.

Youre right about that, Howard is worth alot more than 5/27, it isnt even close. I'd say he's worth maybe 5/40 at least. So, cuban is a cheap bastard, the one who wouldnt sign the current MVP for 5/50, but would sign Dampier for a similar amount. Not only is he a cheap bastard, he's a basketball moron as well.

Not to nitpick, but getting Nash is what made us a conference rival.

That's true, but the Suns had always been in the playoff race pre-Nash except for a few seasons here and there. We may not have been their biggest rival, but we were still a rival to a certain degree as an up and coming team. So they wouldn't have wanted to lose a key player to us.

For example, if we lost Boris Diaw to Denver or Utah I would be pissed, but not so pissed if he went to Milwaukee (I'd still be pissed if we let him go at all of course, but you get my point).

I think it's safe to say basketball economics is settling in at the Cuban household. Is it possible that some of those contracts are actually starting to affect Cuban's personal budget elsewhere? Even to a billionaire, $10 million losses start to accumulate over time.

I'd have to think this was a negotiating pose on Cuban's part, but it also reflects the reality of RFA status. There are only so many teams with above the MLE money and few of them are going to waste their time going after a guy with an offer that can be easily matched.

The JJ situation was extremely unusual. This past summer was fairly typical. The big money deals went to unrestricted free agents and all the RFA proposals were "sign and trade". As far as I can tell, VadRad was the biggest RFA move of the summer and that was for MLE.

Howard may be terribly insulted by Cuban's offer, but that doesn't mean he's going to get a $70 million offer from a team that couldn't get anyone to sign as a free aent.

The Clippers just offered Kaman 5 years/50 million according to the LA Times.

Rad was an unrestricted free-agent this summer. it was the Denver Nuggets with Nene who really screwed this all up.

Howard deserves no less than 40-45 million IMO

Howard is the key to the Mavs chances this season. Dirk is a great on offense, but he's not enough if they don't play above average defense and Howard is their best defender. But he's not 7 foot tall.
