Reports out of NY today indicate that Jets' consultant Charlie Casserly has Todd Bowles and Jim Mora Jr. at the top of his list.

The Bears want to restore the growl in their defense---and one would think that Bowles will be very much considered for their HC position, provided he have a persuasive offensive plan and input on what to do with or for Jake Cutler.

Some are saying that Jim Mora Jr. is the 49ers top choice---I think Russ has been all over this.

IF we lose Todd Bowles...(UGH!)

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEAR YEAR, BUD! :)

Would you consider Rex Ryan for our DC/Asst. head coach? (Assuming, of course, he's willing).

MARK IN SC :)

Bowles is going to get a lot of interviews because he fulfills the Rooney Rule. Don't read a ton into that; there aren't a lot of other highly qualified minority candidates this season.

I'd be surprised if he's a legit candidate for the Bears job because he prefers to run a 3-4 defense, and the Chicago franchise is institutionally committed to a 4-3 defense.

If Bowles doesn't land a head job with all these vacancies, then it seems he will never get a head job. He has to be one of the top candidates. For him, I hope he does get a head job. If not, bonus for the cards

NFL.com has Bowles Picture on their main page. I'll be stunned if he doesn't get a HC job this offseason. Anywhere but San Fran, and I'll be happy for him.

Go Cards!!!

Bowles played in Washington for Casserly & the Skins so the connection makes since & he might damn well get that job because of it. Thx for reminding me of that Mitch :D

Bowles is a bit of an enigma and an anomaly. He's extremely soft-spoken. He lets his work and preparation do the talking---which is exactly why he fits perfectly with BA. BA is huge on preparation and as long as he in front of the microphone, that's really all the public talking he likes.

What Bowles may have working against him is (a) the tendency in the NFL for teams to prefer offensive-minded head coaches (because the relationship between the HC and the QB is of paramount importance) and (b) some may perceive that Bowles lacks the charisma, articulation and gravitas to be an effective head coach.

What makes Bowles current situation so tantalizing for him is that he knows he has to spend 24/6 this week preparing for the Panthers, but he also knows that he is going to have to be 100% prepared for his HC job interviews, which means having a strong handle on that team's personnel, philosophies and direction.

Could the lapses in defense the last two weeks be related to Bowles being distracted? I think it's a reasonable question. I don't know the answer and i won't speculate, but clearly this defense is not what it was a few weeks ago. Hopefully that will change this week.

Regarding offensive-minded HC candidates---there is some rumblings that John Fox is on the hot seat in Denver. Fox is defensive-minded HC. Now that the Falcons and 49ers have asked permission from the Broncos to interview OC Adam Gase---it very might be that the Broncos will let Fox go in order to promote Gase.

The Cardinals were showcased on Sunday Night TV versus the Seahawks---and for teams who are interested in Todd Bowles, they must have been concerned about the way his defense gave up multiple chunk yard plays and a bunch of points. Poor start and poor finish. One game shouldn't speak for a whole volume of work, but for any owner or GM who wanted to take a good look at Bowles and therefore honed in on this game---it likely gave him pause.

Regardless of whether Bowles returns or not, BA&SK need to take a close look at this defense, personnel and scheme-wise---because the question is does this defense have what it takes to thwart mobile QBs such as Wilson and Kaepernick? In the past two weeks it has given up 160 rushing yards just to those two QBs and many of those yards were on runs with wide open spaces and slower players chasing after them.

The fan base is frustrated and he is a legend who has experience and admits he learned a lot from his mistakes.

Yes regarding the legend---but---the Bears need to figure out how to turn Jay Cutler around and a guy like Mike Shanahan would be far better equipped to do that than Mike Singletary.

I agree that the reason Bowles has not gotten a HC job is that he interviews poorly just because he is soft spoken and doesn't seem like much of rah-rah guy. For the Cards sake, I hope stupid owners continue to hold this against him. I think he gets his shot this year though.

What is singletary even doing right now?

Nothing. His last job was LB coach in Minnesota. As for Bowles, he'll get some looks as will Horton(a forgotten name as of late). Wouldn't surprise me if both find jobs, however, the makeup of the league is offense first.

Rex Ryan to Chicago makes sense but I still think Haley is a good fit there to try and get Cutler straightened out.

Haley would be an excellent match for Cutler, I think. If the Steelers make a deep run into the playoffs, that should work out for Haley's candidacy, too--the Bears are going to have to hire a GM first.

Rex Ryan would make a lot of sense in Atlanta, although I don't know if that's going to work out. He'd basically get the offensive pieces he'd be missing and have a chance to build a defense out of some nice parts.

A) 8 of the 12 playoff team HC are defensive-minded

B) I'd dispute this simply based on the team's (players, coaches and FO) support of Bowles couple with his being very articulate. I'm not sure where you were coming from with that one. He speaks better than most coaches.

Ray Horton has lost the bead enhanced dread locks. Three different losing teams in three years doesn't help his cause.

Arians expected Bowles to get a head coaching job before him. Due diligence on Bowles should help him.

If Bowles leaves, how about Butler from Pittsburgh :D. It's been a 2 good years since we've last heard of him.

I agree The Titans were 27th in total defense, 31st in run defense and in the bottom three in scoring defense. Even with a severe lack of talent on the titans defense this year there is no way he gets a head coaching job.
