Braylon Edwards has another brush with the law

Posted by Mike Florio on August 1, 2011, 10:24 PM EDT

Free-agent receiver Braylon Edwards, not far removed from pleading guilty to DUI and having his probation in Cleveland for an assault charge extended, nearly got himself into another jam in Michigan early Monday.

According to FOX 2 in Detroit, two people in Edwards’ entourage were arrested after allegedly assaulting employees at a Birmingham bar.

Per the report, Edwards’ friends got into an argument with the employees. The dispute made its way into the kitchen, and one employee was “sliced with a knife.” The wound required 14 stitches to close. Another employee allegedly was attacked with a fork. (Alas, the Placesetting Trifecta was not completed, possibly because Braylon dropped the spoon.)

Edwards reportedly posted the following on Twitter at about the same time: “Damn. Get ya knuckles ready” and “Don’t fight if. You don’t know how.”

Curiously, Edwards recently posted the following message: “Yo…Lost my phone last night someone sent tweets. Deleted them and changed my password. Sorry for the mishap hopefully never happens again!” (We’d like to think that, if someone found Edwards’ phone and realized they had access to his Twitter page, they would have been a lot more creative than “Damn. Get ya knuckles ready” and “Don’t fight if. You don’t know how.”)

Edwards wasn’t arrested and he faces no charges. However, the fact that he was present when the incident went down possibly could become an issue regarding his probation in Cleveland.

It also could take any remaining air out of the market for Edwards’ services.

Yeah, that type of stuff will get you a long term contract for sure.

Idiot...that being said I hope we sign him for a year.

Once a thug, always a thug. I see how the article says "entourage". They would be better called "leeches".

No chance at being a Cardinal now.

Only prima donnas travel with an entourage of "hanger ons". There is a damn good reason why the Jets didn't resign him. BUYER BEWARE

Agree. Don't need an idiot on the team....we can find somebody else to catch the ball.

Seriously, Edwards can play football but do we really want someone THIS STUPID on the Cardinals?

You're in the middle of negotiating a new contract, you're on probation for several things and you have a pending DUI charge and you're out in bars with your "entourage" and getting into brawls. And not just brawls, KITCHEN brawls! How the hell do you wind up in the kitchen? That's not just dumb folks, that is mentally unstable.

And worse yet he thinks that we're the dumb ones with that lame excuse on twitter!

I know winning is important but I'm not sure I wanna win with this idiot.

I saw the "Get ya knuckles ready" quote on his twitter. Did not understand it at all. I guess I do now. Would liked to have seen him signed. But, realistically, I would think negotiations have collapsed.

Lombardi on NFL Network says he isn't hearing about any team being interested in Edwards.

It seems Edwards was connected with a fight very recently and it made me wonder. How many players in the past before the whole media access of the modern age got into these altercations on a daily bases and no one ever mentioned it till you hear stories on NFL films by old guys joking about it. I'm not saying that players should and I do not approve of it. Does anyone have stories from players of the past they know of that would make some of these modern players look like saints in comparison?
