His ball looked like it had some really good movement on it. Hope he can keep it up.

Solid start by Corbin goes to waste as offense is M.I.A. again. 7.0 IP 10K 4H 1ER 89 pitches

Sucks we lose this one, but good to see Corbin pitching well.

Great performance by Godley but it's only 1 start. Let's see how he performs once teams gather information on him. He made jump from AA ball where he struggled after impressing in A ball, there probably isn't a detailed scouting report on him.

FWIW Chip Hale told Gambo and Burns (on 98.7) that both the Brewers catcher and the home plate umpire came over and told him that Godley had "nasty stuff."

I thought that was pretty cool.

Strikeouts

Our offense is all or nothing.
You're right! And that brings to mind the concept of a free swinging team. Namely strikeouts.

As the season has progressed (especially over the last 11 games where we are 2-9 IIRC), our batters are striking out at an alarming rate.

In another post, I added AJ Pollock to Goldy's name as players whom we should not consider trading.

But I am surprised by his quote about striking out.

“We’re trying to score runs,” said center fielder A.J. Pollock. “If we strike out 20 times and score five runs, I’m good with that.”

The problem is that our batters are striking out more than earlier in the season and we are not scoring five runs regularly.

I hope that management can counter his quote. It is not going to help us become consistent(ly good).

I heard the same thing about having nasty stuff, I agree he looked amazing. The question is can he build on that performance and stick in the majors or will he have to go back down to the minors for more seasoning. Keep in mind he is 25 years old.

I hate Lyin Braun

I was proud of the fans last night, they really gave it to him every time he came up, caught a ball and especially after his homer, the boos after the homer were as loud as anything was all night.

This team is so frustrating to watch because of its inconsistency. When the offense is on the pitching is not, when the pitching is on the offense goes into a slump. This team needs to get on the same cycle but IMO the offense is further along than the pitching. Aside from Corbin, there is no SP on the roster you can say "ARZ has a good shot to win".

I think that is in our heads a bit. Statistically we're only a couple games under where you'd expect given our hitting and pitching numbers.

We're tied for 2nd in the NL in runs scored, we have the 3rd worst ERA in the NL. Basically our offense needs to have solid games to win, because (and I know last night was a 2-1 game) we're very rarely going to be able to win scoring 3 runs or less given our pitching staff.

I think my only issue with Chip Hale right now is that he has too quick of a hook for the starters. Seems like, even when they're having a good game, we virtually never get more than 6 innings out of our starters.

After a quick look to see if my assumption was correct, I find we actually lead the NL in bullpen innings, 2nd in all of baseball.

Robbie Ray has been pretty reliable more often than not...

Lately, six has seemed to be the magic number of innings. But there are reasons for it. A pitcher coming off Tommy John. A pitcher just up from the Minors. Game after game with our starting pitcher throwing 20 pitches in the 1st inning.

Earlier in the season, there were instances where our pitcher pitched 6 good innings, then got tagged in the 7th.

It is not an exact science. I don't blame Chip for having to go the bullpen in the 7th lately.

Gotta say, this Brewers team is a very unlikeable team... Braun, Gomez, Perez and Segura in particular are extremely obnoxious... That BS play Perez pulled at 3rd base with AJ was so bush league...

Good win... Ruby was nails tonight. But our offense produced a meek 4 hits, two by Lamb. The offense is becoming a problem. Need a spark!

Robbie is good, but I worry about him long term because its no secret he has no put away pitch.

This is why you see him have 30 pitch innings and guys stay alive with 2 strikes forever, fouling off ball after ball.

He is young and talented, but he has got to work on that because if you cant get guys out, you cant pitch in the MLB.
