AM:
This morning the practice fields were wet and very sloppy. There were player slipping everywhere on the field. Quite frankly it was the worst condition I have ever seen the field at Flag in the 7 years I have been attending camp.
The team was dressed in full pads in the AM and for good reason. There was some serioous hitting going on. So loud you could hear them pads pop loudly from 150 yards away. During 11 on 11 drills Orlando Huff just leveled Nick Leckey. It was the first big hit and really got the team pumped. They were hootin and hollering like I dont think I had ever really heard before. I believe that hit set a tone that they were out there to work. Not more than 3 snaps later Damien Anderson layed some serious wood on Eric Green. Amazingly those two little guys were every bit as lous as the other two. There were several more HUGE collision during the drill. The loudest and best one was delivered by Lance Mitchell. He leveled someone but I couldnt tell who. The hit brought on such a reaction from the team that the were jumping up and down and 1/2 of them ran at Mitchell to jump on him, hit him in the head and give overall congrats for such a big hit. No fights though and thankfully no injuries. PLayers that stood out during drill were Huff, Hayes, Rolle(blitzing frequently). Boldin and Warner looked good in the drill as well. But the defense pretty much dominated the exercise.
During some basic drills with the starting unit I noticed that Boldin was lining up in the backfield at Rb and would flare out or through the middle and catch a pass. Seems since those were so successful last year that they are still in the playbook even with Edge on the team. I also noticed that boldin has started some wierd practice fashion statement, he now wears one white sock pulled all the way to his knee. The other one stops at the ankle. I thought it was that one sock fell down but he was the same way in the afternoon. Looks kind of funny actually.
One thing I noticed about Edgerrin James that Im not sure if it has been noted or not? He seems to hang with the OL almost exclusively during warm-ups and on the sides. Seems like he is really trying to develop some chemistry there. HE surprised me with how hard he actually practices. Full speed 90% of the time. HE was even high stepping from drill to drill at times. I was shocked just how skinny his legs were in person especially his calves.
I was surprised by another drill that was going on. The OL was hiting the dummy sled down on the lower field. That in itself is far from surprising. What was is that the entire team was watching and following everywhere the sled went hootin and hollering behind them yet again. The two OL that stood out to me were Big and Bridges. Both looked to be in really good shape and extra trim for guys like that. Lets hope it equates to performance.
Other guys that stood out during the practice to me were Langston Moore, and Gabe Watson. If these guys keep this up we may just finally have produced a run D! I hope its not just pre-season and traning camp overhype.
I was shocked by the # of people at the AM practice. Seemed to be no more then about 60 people total. Wheres the love?
PM:
Very light practice. Helmets and shorts only no pads. Alot of special teams practice and some 11 on 11 drills. Nothing major to report since you cant really tell a whole lot without any contact. Rackers did slip pretty badly on the wet field while practicing KO's. He seemed to be limping afterward and didnt practice anymore.
I cant rave enough about this Capshaw kid at Punter. He is literally unreal. SO is his touch. He was holding on FG practice as well and seemed to be really good at getting the ball planting it quickly and turning the laces away. Player should be worried IMO.
Troy Walters looks fantastic yet again at KO returns. Rolle was taking some punt return practice(I dont like that at all) But they werent letting anyone hit him thankfully(that was in the am).
I will be at the AM practice tomorrow too. If you have never been here and live in the valley what are you waiting for? Get up here its fantastic!
