So what happened there, besides just handing the Lions thirty yards, that made him go off like that?

A very good question. 15 happens. Two in a row?
That's something that deserves a transparent explanation that goes beyond "he was upset".

my take:

it seemed like a pretty calm conversation with the head referee and B-Rob as Calais Campbell was near by smiling. When one of the other officials came over and said something, whatever he said set robinson OFF.

He gave the Lions 3 points at a critical time in the game. Oddly enough I have never seen him upset in any game. Looks calm out there.

Someone who has been in the league as long as him should know better. Back away from the officials. Some of them have a loose trigger

A costly argument

Cardinals Bryan Robinson was called for two consecutive unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in the third quarter for arguing with the umpire over a holding call on another player.
Robinson took exception to a call on his backup, Gabe Watson. The penalty was declined because it came on a 64-yard http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/articles/2009/12/20/20091220cardinals-lions-notes.html#run by Maurice Morris.

Robinson said he asked umpire Bruce Stritesky why he made the call on Watson when it was the same technique Robinson had been using.

"It was just conversation with the umpire that went kind of wrong," Robinson said. "I probably said some things he didn't want to hear at that time, and the guy called me for a penalty."
Coach Ken Whisenhunt said there are "two sides to every story," and he discussed the incident with Robinson in the locker room after the game.

"That's not something we want to see or condone," Whisenhunt said.

It looked to me like the official exacerbated the situation. He needed to just walk away.

I knew he wasn't even on the field for the TD but I guess that explains it he was mad at the call on Watson.

Still can't do that

He shouldn't have gotten those 2 penalties but it's cool to see him sticking up for a teammate like that.

The official seemed to act unprofessional?

It's hard to explain. I don't know what was said but I did see what looked like the official escalating the incident instead of diffusing it. The official obviously lost his composure. Less than a minute later the same official lost track of the down.

Zero excuses. One 15 yarder is a crime. 2 = ... I don't know, mental retardation?

You've never lost your cool in competitive sports? This isn't normal behavior for him and am willing to overlook this.

Yep lost control and got a 15 yarder. Ref was an idiot because all I did was grab some grass and throw it. I didn't go completely stupid and get a 2nd 15 yarder. Wanted to punch the Ref for being a complete anal a$$ but knew I would be fighting a losing battle. All this at the age of 14.

Robinson had a rather long discussiong with the Ref before getting flagged. Ref was trying to settle him down but he just wouldn't let it go. I have seen some dumb stuff in my time but this takes the cake.

How about an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the stinkin' official!

Seriously, if anyone did not conduct themselves professionally it was the official. He should be reprimanded big time. NO PLAYOFFS FOR YOU!

Vegas, baby, yeah!
Just watching the game, it seemed to me that Robinson probably said something that touched the ref's hot button. Each official has one, and as soon as you go near it, the flags are going to come out, regardless of the sport. In baseball - you get ejected. In football, you're going to get an unsportsmanlike conduct call.

Robinson just couldn't let it go, and the ref was pretty pissed about it too, it looks like. Regardless, some cooler heads prevailed, just wished they had done so a bit sooner and pulled Robinson away before he had to go talk to the ref the second time.

What I saw was a Ref talking to B Rob and trying to settle him down. B Rob just wouldn't **** and then obvioulsy crossed the line. I say Obviously because he then started talking junk a 2nd time and got ANOTHER 15 yarder.

B Rob has been a great asset to the Cards as a leader and player. Today he was an idiot.

Since when does an NFL player need to be calmed down. This isn't tennis. These guys scream R rated vile at each other on every play. The official needs to back off and do his job not lecture defensive lineman.

BS.

B Rob was pissing and moaning and complaining and bitching and the Ref was being very tolerant. B Rob crossed the line and got flagged. How do I deduce this. He got a 2nd FREAKIN FLAG. Stick up for his lack of professionalism and IQ all you want, B Rob was an idiot.

I was hoping one of the Card coaches would step in and get Robinson off the field and calm him down.

Robinsons behavior is undefendable.
firstly no matter what he said or what his problem was with the call the referee isn't going to change his mind or the call so let it go
secondly after you get flagged once learn the lesson go and appologise to the team and coach DONT go back and get another flag that is brain dead behaviour and costs your team.
I rolled my eyes at the first flag but the second is just not forgivable if I were Whiz he would have sat the rest of the game and be fined.

One penalty is bad. Two consecutive penalties, especially from a seasoned veteran, is simply inexcusable. Somebody has to get in there and physically pull him away.
