But his lack of development of any other NBA-level skills have so far made it tough for Marshall to succeed. He cannot shoot well, doesn't run fast and doesn't use his large frame (for a PG) to his advantage. Worst of all, he has always seemed sure that he can succeed without significantly improving in any of those areas.

It started in Summer League, then carried over to a lackluster training camp and right into the season, down to the D-League and back to a rebuilding project.

"I wasn't as consistent as I wanted to be last year," Marshall said after his first practice with new coach Jeff Hornacek in preparation for the Summer League that begins on Saturday. "So if I can become more consistent on the defensive end and make my presence felt offensively getting guys in position to score as well as taking advantage of my own possessions, I think I can have a pretty good season."

Marshall is a thinking man, but it still seems like he thinks he just needs to "get by" without those vital skills. He thinks about setting up other teammates, and he thinks about how to facilitate that by doing everything else just well enough to be respectable. Even now, he doesn't sound like he's totally ready to be aggressive in getting his own shots.

"Personally, I just want to get my body where I want it to be," he said of his personal goals this season. "And take advantage of my size. Maybe drop a few pounds and be a threat offensively. That would open up a lot more passing."

To become a threat offensively, he has to be able to shoot better. And with enough repetitions, Marshall could get his percentages up.

I wish I could be optimistic about him but I just can't. I hated the selection when we drafted him and he has done nothing since then to change my opinion. If he were to spend as much time in the gym as he does on Twitter, he would have developed a good shot by now.

Its impossible to develop players who don't really think they need to improve much. At this point, we would be lucky if we can get a 2nd rd pick for him.

And to make things worse, I guess he took it to Twitter to express his displeasure with his HC when Hornacek said the truth about Marshall
Suns coach Jeff Hornacek recently said of PG Kendall Marshall, "he's maybe not the type of guy that is going to fly it down the court and penetrate and put pressure on a defense that way."

Hornacek also praised Marshall's ability to attack in pick-and-rolls, but the comments didn't sit well with Marshall. "Apparently I don't like to fastbreak," he wrote in a Twitter post which has since been deleted. "Apparently I didn't [go] to Carolina, team that fast breaks more than any team in the world." This minor flap shouldn't have lasting implications but minutes will be hard to come by for Marshall now that Eric Bledsoe and Archie Goodwin are in Phoenix.

This attitude was always present with Marshall and it was even mentioned on the board a few times last year but was usually challenged or disregarded.

Stop being so negative. Give him a million more chances to prove himself.

I don't remember Marshall voicing that attitude. If he has half a brain he'll get with the best shooting coach he can find - pay him out of his own pocket if he has to - and put up 500 shots a day. No way is he going to stay in the league for long without adding something significant to his game.

This thread is complete garbage. I don't mean to be rude, but it's completely inaccurate and misleading. I understand you dislike Marshall, and I wish we would have picked someone else as well, but don't concoct inaccurate fallacies just to back your opinion. Marshall never, ever said he didn't think he needed to improve.

There were several references to attitude problems last season (and preseason). They really didn't offer any specifics they just mentioned, amongst other things, his poor work ethic and he already had a reputation for being difficult to coach. He was especially full of himself when UNC struggled so much while he was out. I'm not sure what he expected to happen; when a team loses it's only true point guard it tends to struggle but he came back with an even bigger head from what I heard.

Steve

Edit: My bad. I didn't realize you were probably talking specifically about the thread title. I agree. I don't think he's ever specifically said that he thought he was without fault and he certainly didn't in the referenced article.

The mechanics on Marshall's shot is all messed up which I do not think can be fixed. His only hope is to be able to put up and hit an uncontested 3 point shot because he is to slow in his mechanics to do anything else. Even trying to make a layup is a challenge for him.

If his attitude is that he is satisfied with his game, I don't know what to say, because he is a poor shooter and defender.

If opposing teams deny him the quick outlet pass, he will not be able to ignite the fastbreak. Maybe this is what Hornacek is referring. NBA teams can take away the quick outlet pass and then all you have is a slow PG dribbling the ball down the court.

Misrepresentation of facts. Looking for the dramatic effect? Comprehension issues? It's a repeated offense. His headlines often aren't supported by the facts, he's the Foxnews of the Suns board. No offense intended of course.

Why are you attacking me for? I didn't write the article, a guy on BSOTS did. All I did is bring the article to light and yes in the article, he does say that Marshall doesn't think he needs to improve.

No, as I said above, I didn't say Marshall doesn't think he needs to improve or write the article...a blogger on BSOTS did. That's why if you look at the "headline" it says "BSOTS" at the beginning of it instead of just me flat out saying "Marshall has a poor work ethic" or "Marshall doesn't think he needs to improve".

I posted an article and then gave my opinion on what was said in the article. I don't understand what's so wrong about it. Maybe the author drew conclusions that weren't there, but perhaps you should comment on that article to attack him not attack me.

The title/claim is accurately attributed to the blog.

Huh? Marshall quotes given in the blog are that he wasn't consistent as wanted to be. Didn't do as well as he wanted to. I don't see one quote from Marshall that even suggests he doesn't think he needs to improve. The author of the article tries to speculate on what wasn't said and uses it as evidence to suggest Marshall doesn't 'get it', but even with the negative tone of the piece, the author still doesn't come out and make the claim that Marshall doesn't think he needs to improve as the title of this thread claims.

Are you blind? The title doesnt have quotations. Why are you assuming that Marshall said it?

The title of this thread is that a BSOTS blogger said that Marshall doesn't think he needs to improve.

And guess what?

The blogger did say that.

If I wanted to say that Marshall himself said that he doesn't need to improve, then the title would be:

Kendall Marshall: "I don't think I need to improve"

The title clearly means that the BSOTS is the one saying Marshall think he doesn't have to improve, not Marshall.

But it's true that Marshal hasn't improved much over 2 years, not? Markieff Morris seems to be underwhelming also. Quite frustrated with draft selections as a Suns fan.

I am pretty low on Marshall but its jumping the gun a tad to say he has not improved in TWO years when we are about 58 weeks removed from him being drafted.

Marshall didn't suggest it. The blogger did:

Marshall is a thinking man, but it still seems like he thinks he just needs to "get by" without those vital skills.

The title of the blog is "Kendall Marshall in a fight for spot with Phoenix Suns".

One thing you should know about Bright Side of the Sun is they are obsessed with their web design and they are CONSTANTLY changing the title of articles after they are published. It's super freakin' annoying. I think they do it so when they move it from the main story frame to one of the smaller ones so the title will fit better.

Exactly, Marshall NEVER said anything remotely like what the thread title suggests. In fact every quote in that article is the exact opposite.

That is just the stupid and worthless intrepretation of some random clown writing poor amateur articles on that page.

And the topic creator should be warned for creating such a misleading title.

I thought we had pretty well established that the "topic creator" did not create the thread title, he took it from the BSOTS article title itself.

Why do you care other than the fact that you hate susnfan88?

Is this really worth all the negativity? The fact that Marshall stinks is negative enough.
