I don't get it. People start every thread about how good the 2011 draft class was with Ryan Williams and Rob Housler.

Housler's missed four games with injury, and in the other eight he has 9 receptions for 95 yards and 0 TEs. Don't think he's even gotten an attempt in the red zone.

I'm not saying he's a scrub, but after Kolb and Heap he might be the biggest disappointment on the offense. Thank God Jeff King exceeded expectations, or our recomittment to the TE position would've been a massive non-starter.

I see a guy that has all the physical skills to be a great one. But he came from an extremely small school and had such a jump in talent that he is going to take some time to develop. But his size/speed combo are impressive. What were you expecting from the first season for the rook?

He's big and fast. Whiz and CO. don't particularly use the TE position that well IMO. Kolb has missed him a few times for potential TD's. This is his rookie season coming on with a short camp and he's been injured. I am very optimistic about this guy.

Really like him also. A shame he has been hurt but looks like he has the skillset to be a good offensive weapon.

Jimmy Graham had 8 receptions for 98 yards and 1 TD in his first 8 games. A year later he is arguably the best TE in the game. Not saying I think Housler will be the next Graham at all, but give the guy a little time to acclimate to the game.

At least he's on the field. I mean why is Heap still on the team? To keep paying his medical bills? Housler has good upside..

For a rookie who is the #3 TE on the depth chart and has battled a groin injury most of the season, you're being awfully critical of him.

Let the kid develop. The abbreviated offseason hurt a lot of players, especially rookies coming from small schools. Sheesh.....

If either QB could hit the broad side of a barn, he would have 4-5 TD's already. Him running, wide open, down the middle of the field and not getting the ball, has been a staple of this year's offense

TE is a position where players traditionally take some time to develop. Very few TEs actually make an impact as rookies.

Everyone knew Housler needed some time to develop, but he definately has the physical skills to develop to a great receiving TE. Time will tell if that happens, but the potential is there.

That's the comp that I was looking for. But Graham had like 600 yards and 5 TDs as a rookie, so I didn't look further into it.

I don't see anyone saying that they've loved what they've seen from Housler on the field, so I'm going to guess that most everyone is as disappointed as I've been, they just don't want to say it.

For my part, he's been pretty much what I've expected this year. I didn't expect much. He'll have to show his stuff next year, when Heap is out of the NFL.

Small school, no offseason, nagging injuries......it all adds up to a slower start. Let's not forget that our QB's have missed him wide open in the middle of the field. The kid has tremendous upside, but that doesn't guarantee anything. His development is very much dependent on Kolb's development & staying healthy. We'll have to wait and see, but I think he'll be our best TE in a long time.

Kolb has missed him wide open for easy TDs on numerous occassions.....this kid is going to be very good. Jimmy Graham type leap next season.

I don't think he's been on the field. I remember seeing him actully make a really good block the last time he played before being injured. Yesterday, he had a good catch down the middle for a long gain that got swarmed by defenders, so he couldn't get the first down. Then there was the sideline catch towards the end that he bobbled, so it wouldn't have counted, even if not for the bs holding call against Colledge. I think alot of this falls under the Whiz - no rookie thing.

Not at all. I was second to no one in my love of Sam Acho coming out of the draft, and I liked Patrick Peterson and Sherman has been a good player when he's been on the field.

I just don't understand the assurances from many--even on this thread--that Housler is another Jimmy Graham when he's done basically nothing once the season started. Even after comments in camp about how well that Housler's taken in the playbook, etc., etc.

Again, I don't think he's the second-coming of Leonard Pope or anything, but people seem to like him way, way more than his performance on the field justifies, and I'm wondering why.

For whatever reason he's given people reason to envision his development in a really positive way. I know a lot of us roll out the "after a full offseason" line a lot these days, but this is one example where I hope it is a real difference maker.

A match up nightmare who has been inconsistent. He gets open and the QB doesn't see him, and when the QB is looking for him, they aren't on the same page. Great skill set to develop though.

Housler has a Cardinal on his helmet. Most of us tend to like most of our players way, way more than their performance on the field justifies until they give us reason to feel otherwise. And most times it has to be a serious negative.

Proof is in how fast people turn on a player once he leaves.

I agree. Three times at least this season, Kolb had Housler in the seam which would have been a sure-fire TD catch and run each time. In Minnesota, it was overthrown. Yesterday, it was thrown too hard into the ground. I think the other time we ran that play, Housler had a finger nail on it and couldnt bring it down.

Unlike some on this board, I believe players like Housler can develop, and with time and exposure to the offense in the offseason, I think Housler will improve.

I don't think he's another JImmy Graham that's too early to say, but he has the physical tools to be a great receiving TE. He's still raw clearly he and Kolb are not on the same page wtih routes at times, and he had a couple of drops earlier in the year. But for sheer ability he's got it.
