Today ESPN Insider was probing the possibility of a trade that would send Anquan Boldin to KC for Tony Gonzalez and another player or a draft pick.

Right off the bat, such a trade would not seem to make sense from the standpoint that Whiz and Haley may not be on the best of terms these days, nor may Q and Haley in the aftermath of their shouting match on the sidelines of the NFC Championship.

But, adding Gonzalez at TE, who still (at age 33) commands double teams...would be, without question, a boon to an already explosive offense...and his addition would immediately solve the team's TE woes.

And there are other Chiefs' players who are could be of interest:

LG Brian Waters...is thoroughly disgruntled with Haley and Pioli...and still is one of the better LGs in the NFL. Would Haley, who likes Reggie Wells, be willing to swap Waters for Wells? If so, hello improved running game.

LB Derrick Johnson...has underachieved for the Chiefs...but has a world of talent. While Karlos Dansby was a better, more productive player last year, who will be the better player the next few years?

FS Jarrad Page...this kid has a nose for the football and the range at FS the Cardinals need. He's an RFA...not sure what the tender on him was...but because of his range and quickness at reading plays, he's the type of playmaking centerfielder the Cardinals have lacked.

RB Jamaal Charles...I know the Cardinals were taking a good, long look at him last year...and might have been the team's 3rd round pick had he not gone to the Chiefs eight picks earlier. Could he be made part of a package? He could be Whiz's version of "Fast Willie" in the Cardinals' offense.

DE Tamba Hali...like Johnson has not quite had a breakthrough season yet, but has the size and speed to be a real good one, and would seem made to order for the team's "predator" position.

Some interesting players. Your thoughts?

I've speculated on much of this but think in the end, it's more about Pioli and Graves than it is about Whis and Haley. Much ado about nothing by ESPN.

at first when I heard some suggest trading Boldin for Gonzales I was completely against it...part of it probably being a love for all that Boldin has meant to this team and he did contribute a lot last season even if some do not think so but then I consider this, even though Gonazales is 33 it would not be out of line to think that he would still play longer than Boldin because frankly Boldin's physical play has made him often injured and Gonzales with Fitz and Breaston would make a formible passing tandem. Jamal Charles? as a UT ex I would endorse having him because that provided me watching the kid play in college a lot and he would be everything one could want from a third down back and even possibly a everydown back. Having Boldin go to a AFC team would also ease the pain of watching someone who was one of my favorite players leave the team

I would love to have Gonzales, but he came out and said he only wants to play another year, maybe two. Personally, I think he's got 3-4 more productive years left, since he keeps himself in great shape and has been relatively injury free during his career. I would only trade for him if he agreed to play longer.

Chiefs would not trade Charles, he is the only RB on their team and no I dont count Larry Johnson.

Hali and Johnson are way to young and still cheap, they wont even think about trading them. Same goes for Page who got a high tender offer.

The only tradeable pieces are Gonzo and Waters. One being 33 years old and the other being 32 years old. Trading Boldin for Gonzo would add 2.25 to our cap, trading for Gonzo and Waters would add 8 mill to our cap. Gonzo and Waters is highly unlikely and somewhat the Gonzo one as well until Dansby is extended and we find a replacement for Edge.

The whole trade scenerio just doesnt really work on a lot of levels, it was Boldin who told Waters at the Pro Bowl to watch out for Haley, cap wise, and it would makes us considerably older, dont think we would even consider taking on two highly paid 32+ year olds. IMO we only want young guys and draft picks for any Boldin trade.

This is all conjecture, in my opinion. The Cards do not want to take on two old farts (in NFL terms) for a player in demand

Boldin for Tony G and a 2nd I would do. Fills an immediate need, and gives us a pick high enough that we can basically fill all our needs. RB/OLB at 31 and the other with the Chiefs pick. In order to do this, we first would have to free up cap space (pretty easy to do with Edge and Okeafor's contracts or with a rework of Dansby/Wilson/Gandy).

Winner! Tony G would be an major receiving upgrade at the position, and would provide at least adequate blocking as well.

no no no.The Cards have 5 TE`s on the roster. Its time for Pope and Company to sh*t or get off the pot.Why trade for another TE who is on the wrong side of 30? Gonzalez`s best years are probably behind him and Cards can do better if they want to trade Boldin.:mulli:

I would do that too.

Unfortunately they traded that pick for a guy named Matt Cassell.:)

So Boldin for the Chiefs - Gonzalez, Waters, Johnson, Page, Charles, and Hali! Sure why not!

First off, why would there be any kind of rift between Haley and Whiz? Secondly, i don't think there's any way Boldin gets traded without a #1 draft pick in the deal. Waters may get released so why include him in any deal? The Chiefs are building to the future and Pioli likes accumulating picks. I don't see how a deal between these two teams could work.

I'm not trading Boldin for players over 30. Period.

Tony G could get a draft pick.

Anquan Boldin-WR- Cardinals Mar. 25 - 8:19 pm et

Coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed Wednesday that the Cardinals are in talks with Anquan Boldin about a contract extension.

Both sides appear to have softened their stances since it was reported on March 12 that Arizona was "actively shopping" Boldin. "Anquan is a very important part of our organization and football team," said Whiz. "And we’re working to get a new contract with him based on the level he’s played for us."

I like the idea of working with out former OC - but I'm not talking Boldin.

I'm thinking the Cardinals should go for broke and trade a third rounder for Tony G. Theres a chance we would use a high draft pick on at TE anyway and Gonzo has two good years left in him. Pioli gets more picks so it works for the Chiefs as well.

In this offense if we could somehow land Tony we would become unstoppable. Imagine this potential scenario -

#31 - Beanie Wells
#63 - Connor Barwin/Sidbury
3rd Round pick - Tony G

umm thats a ridiculous offense my friends with me playing QB - let alone Kurt.

You have to remember he comes with a hefty contract. We couldn't do it unless we traded Q. It could happen if we traded Q to Phillie for a first and 3rd and sent one of our 3rds to KC for Gonzales.

I would be good with that too but the idea of Boldin, Fitz, Steve, and Tony G makes me delirious.

I would think cutting Edge and getting one of Wilson or Dansby restructured would get it all kosher under the cap even with Q.

Joe - Whats the penalty of going over the cap this year especially? Theres really no penalty and theres a un-capped year next right?

I say we worry about the defense. The O was good enough last year.

First off, why would there be any kind of rift between Haley and Whiz?

It's been reported that Haley is not an easy guy to get along with and that there is no love lost between Haley and Whiz.

I posted in an earlier thread on Monty Beisel that Whiz offered Monty double the money after he found out he was going to sign with the Chiefs but Monty had already accepted the Chiefs offer.

It seems Whiz wanted Beisel but was more upset that he was going to the Chiefs and Haley than with another team.
