Cardinals Make Roster Moves (08-29-05)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, August 29, 2005

Tempe, AZ – The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has released the following six players: linebacker Isaiah Ekejiuba, cornerback Rhett Nelson, safety Ifeanyi Ohalete, tackle Alan Reuber, defensive tackle Keith Wright, and defensive end Peppi Zellner.

In addition, the team also has placed center Bill Conaty (arm), defensive tackle Kenny King (wrist) and running back J.R. Redmond (shoulder) on injured reserve.

Today’s moves put the Cardinals below the 65-man roster limit, which all clubs are required to reach by tomorrow afternoon. The Cardinals currently have 69 players on their roster, including five NFL Europe League exemptions.

Ohalete is a surpise to me. I liked having him back there for depth.

When a player is placed on IR, does that mean they have to be out a certain amount of time?

Wow.

Redmond and King lost for the season. I guess it could be worse but both guys looked very promising this preseason.

Redmond on IR for a seperated shoulder? He must have torn ligaments. Skkorp was right on that one.

Wow. That sucks. Redmond was really going to help our return game.

I thought it was about 6 weeks for some reason.

A ton of surprises here.......King and Redmond on IR blew me away. Ohalete and Reuber and Zellner......wow. Does this mean that A. Smith moves right to back up to Okeafor? I guess I Allen is now the back up for BIG. I sure didn't think that Harris was outplaying Ohalete.

Shazor is now firmly in the mix at SS. Mayes makes the team now as well.

Talk about blowing my projected roster out the window.

That would be the Physically Unable to Perform(PUP) list.

Didnt see those coming.

Who is Griffiths backup?

Sort of saw the Zellner thing coming.

When will it be time to cut loose Kenny King?

Knew all along Redmonds injury was worse then people were saying.

the cutting of ohalete must mean that shazor is looking pretty strong to make the roster. the kenny king deal is really starting to get old. to bad for j.r. . i was really looking forward to him lighting it up in front of the hometown crowd.

Tons of surprises on that list. I'm a little in shock.

I wouldn't answer my phone before training camp starts next season, Kenny. Most overrated player on this board not named "Marcel Shipp."

Pace was set to backup both Berry and Okeafor anyways. Zellner did nothing.

I though Ohalete was doing good, but there was a cheaper replacement.

I can't wait until you have to eat crow on this one, K9.

What will it take for you to admit Shipp is a decent back?

PUP is only for players who start TC with an injury. You can't be put on PUP if you are injured during TC.

I am quite surpised by Ohalete...

Also, glad to see we gave up a draft pick to get Zellner and Hambrick last year :(

As a starter, or a backup? I think that Shipp's among the top 20 #2 backs in the NFL. As a backup, I'd take 500 yards and 3 TDs.

As a #1? Nothing less than 1200 yards and 6 TDs is acceptable in a #1 RB in the NFL today.

In between? How about some consistency and health. Marcel will put up back-to-back 100 yard games and then go into a month-long funk where he has 12 rushes for 20 yards week after week.

I'd worry about eating crow if there were any chance I'd have to.

Ohalete gets picked up real quickly. Let's look at the S position for a minute.

I had Ohalete backing up Griffith and Harris backing up Wilson and saw Shazor as a possibility for either SS or FS depth and special teams. I do recall Green saying that Shazor was to be groomed as an FS.....on the theory that the roles of a SS and A FS in Pendergast's defensive scheme were to become "blurred". So now perhaps Shazor moves right behind Griffith.

Green and the coaching staff must be very pleased with his progress. If this is so, then kudo's to Shazor.
