Didnt see those coming.

Who is Griffiths backup?

Sort of saw the Zellner thing coming.

When will it be time to cut loose Kenny King?

Knew all along Redmonds injury was worse then people were saying.

If deemed healthy at some point, the team can reach an injury settlement, I believe.

Seems like BULMAN will make the final roster, although it also seems that Green is looking for some upgrades off the wire.

(As an aside: re: Zellner - I recall that the Cards wanted to re-sign KVB, but he decided he wanted to find a place where he'd play more. He's been playing extremely well for Tenn. in the preseason; three sacks, on first team, If I recall correctly.)

I don't often do this, but I am in agreement with K9 100% on this one. Marcel Shipp is a good change of pace banger who can pull a Micheal Pittman and go gangbusters for a game or two but then disappears with usually a minor type injury that really slows him down.

I hope Shipp does well and I think he can if he is not the #1 guy.

You reach an injury settlement with a player if they are injured. If he is healthy you can just cut him.

Cardinals Make Roster Moves (08-29-05)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, August 29, 2005

Tempe, AZ – The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has released the following six players: linebacker Isaiah Ekejiuba, cornerback Rhett Nelson, safety Ifeanyi Ohalete, tackle Alan Reuber, defensive tackle Keith Wright, and defensive end Peppi Zellner.

In addition, the team also has placed center Bill Conaty (arm), defensive tackle Kenny King (wrist) and running back J.R. Redmond (shoulder) on injured reserve.

Today’s moves put the Cardinals below the 65-man roster limit, which all clubs are required to reach by tomorrow afternoon. The Cardinals currently have 69 players on their roster, including five NFL Europe League exemptions.

www.azcardinals.com

69 - 5 (NFLE exemptions) = 64...

which, I take it means that Green can still add one player before tomorrow afternoon.

Quentin Harris?

I thought Ohalete was better than Harris. But as soon as I listed him as my candidate for most underrated player he was as good as gone. Same reason I no longer buy a player's replica jersey.

My daughter asked me during the replay yesterday who was my favorite player on the Cardinals. I wouldn't answer. Didn't want anyone else going on IR.

Both?

Did King ever even play in a preseason game.

When I said preseason I meant mini camps, training camps and preseason games. King got injuried during training camp about a month ago.

With Reuber now "out" we have our answers at OT from a backup perspective.

Congratulations Fred Wakefield (behind BIG)........and I Allen (behind Ross)

Kenny King was injured before the pre-season games, so I don't know where "he was looking good in preseason" came from.

Regarding Zellner, he sort of intrigued me also because I really didn't see him during pre-season. It was the Berry/Okeafor show with the starters, then the Calvin Pace show for the backups. Did Zellner even play?

I do remember seeing him out there in this preseason.

I don't remember what game though.

He was on the field but I don't remember him making any plays. I just saw his name on a jersey in one of the camera shots.

I think we are going to see the "horsetrader" in Green show his face soon. Clearing the decks as he now has indicates that he's about to shake things up.

Never a dull moment with him, is there?

Kenny played in the Dallas preseason game and had two tackles.

This team really needs to get a jump on next years FA siging period by going after Corey Simon! I would jump all over him especially now that we have zero quality depth at DT.

We could whip him into shape and have a PB caliber DT and Davis as quality depth.

the cutting of ohalete
My take on Ohalete was that he was "very athletic; but hadn't mastered the mental aspects of playing safety.

Wasn't it Ohalete who blew in out of control from the left side on a run blitz and whiffed the tackle ; thereby allowing the Oakland runner to turn a loss into a big gain?

On the Moss TD, the left safety was supposed to provide deep help and pick up Moss in Cover 2. He blew the assignment. Who was the safety? I didn't see who it was, but could it have been Ohalete?

Also - Don't prematurely assume these cuts guarantee roster spots for other Cardinal players. Next week, they will have to drop (12 standard plus 5 NFLE exempted =) 17 guys from the active roster to get from 65 to 53. And they could pick up waived guys as well.

I actually think that was Griffith Jeff. I was shocked because he came in on the blitz and not only whiffed but teh RB left him in the dust. he looked so damn slow it wasnt funny.

Interesting also that all of the tight ends are still on the roster. That position is still very, very much in the air. It's a real problem that I hope gets resolved very soon.

That probably means that John Bronson out of Penn State ends up on the practice squad and Bobby Blizzard may get cut. (Bergen, Golliday and Eric Edwards make the 53-man roster.

No. Mainly because you don't know what you're talking about. Cory Simon isn't a NT, he's a UT. He'd spell Dockett, but there'd be no reason to pour $4.5 mil.+ on a guy who is going to spell a potential Pro Bowler in Dockett.
