That makes sense. Much moreso than K9s IMO. Since we dont carry a true NT.spanky1 said:Bring in Corey Simon now = problems with Dockett from a contract renegotiation next year. Rather have a happy Dockett thank you.

JeffGollin said:the cutting of ohalete
My take on Ohalete was that he was "very athletic; but hadn't mastered the mental aspects of playing safety.
Wasn't it Ohalete who blew in out of control from the left side on a run blitz and whiffed the tackle ; thereby allowing the Oakland runner to turn a loss into a big gain?
On the Moss TD, the left safety was supposed to provide deep help and pick up Moss in Cover 2. He blew the assignment. Who was the safety? I didn't see who it was, but could it have been Ohalete?
Also - Don't prematurely assume these cuts guarantee roster spots for other Cardinal players. Next week, they will have to drop (12 standard plus 5 NFLE exempted =) 17 guys from the active roster to get from 65 to 53. And they could pick up waived guys as well.
JeffGollin said:I know we currently need to cut only 16 (& not 17) but was assuming we'd sign someone and return to our 65 player limit. (But I'll defer to anyone else's math - whether it regards roster limits or cap numbers. I suck at that sort of stuff).
But anyway - just for fun - I took a look at our remaining roster and made the following assumptions regarding roster battles (using 17 as my target):
Running Back (Reduce by 1 Roster Spot)
Fighting for spot: Jackson, Hodgins or Morrow.
Wide Receiver (Reduce by 2)
Projected cuts: Holiday, McCoy
Tight End (Reduce by 2)
Fighting for spots: Bronson, Blizzard, Edwards (Inj)
Offensive Line (Reduce by 2)
Fighting for spots: Cantu, Lynch, Haayer, Wakefield
Defensive Line (Reduce by 2)
Projected cuts: T King, A Smith
Linebacker (Reduce by 3)
Fighting for spots: Keys, Towns, Hayes (inj), Mitchell, Johnson
Defensive Back (Reduce by 4)
Fighting for spots: Reid, Hardy, Mayes, Shazor, Harris, Tate, Walls
Special Teams (Reduce by 1)
Projected cut: Fordyce
Man! Even listing some of these guys (like Wakefield, Hayes, Mitchell and 4 of the 6 DB's) is hard to stomach, but that's how (barring pickups or trades) I think things will boil down.

DB) Hardy and/or Reid
LB) Mitchell
TE) Bronson
WR) Holiday and possibly McCoy
DL) possibly King(Tyler)
OL) Cantu (if eligible)
joeshmo said:Jeff is right. They have to be cut first before they can be put on the PS.
Come the cut down date, we will CUT/IR 17 players.
Then re-sign 8 guys for the PS a few days later.

Renz said:I thought Ohalete clearly outplayed Harris this preseason. Maybe Harris will get cut too.
spanky1 said:Bronson won't go to PS. If any TE it will be Edwards. I can't see us keeping 3 TE's on the 53 man roster.
I disagree with Holiday.....I see him as a cut. One of Sheldon and/or McCoy will be PS bound, but not both.
Tyler King is too darn small. He gets cut IMO.
Cantu is eligible.
Hardy and/or Reid....perhaps both, dependent on Walls eventual status.
Perhaps S. Lynch (C) now that Conatay is on IR.

Wide Receiver (Reduce by 2)
Projected cuts: Holiday, McCoy
Tight End (Reduce by 2)
Fighting for spots: Bronson, Blizzard, Edwards (Inj) Don't be surprised if Bronson is the one left standing!
Offensive Line (Reduce by 2)
Fighting for spots: Cantu, Lynch, Haayer, Wakefield Do the Cards try to hold Cantu for Mexico City?
Defensive Line (Reduce by 2)
Projected cuts: T King, A Smith Who is the #4 DE?
Linebacker (Reduce by 3)
Fighting for spots: Keys, Towns, Hayes (inj), Mitchell, Johnson I don't believe Hayes is at risk.
Defensive Back (Reduce by 4)
Fighting for spots: Reid, Hardy, Mayes, Shazor, Harris, Tate, Walls
Special Teams (Reduce by 1)
Projected cut: Fordyce Guaranteed.

You're right. Harris is second string now to A. Wilson. Griffith's backup is now listed as Jermaine Hardy.spanky1 said:Don't Harris and Ohalete play different positions....Harris (SS) and Ohalete (FS)
Hambone was never the starter. It was between Smith and Shipp but after Shipp went down for the season, Emmitt was automatically the starter.CardLogic said:Hambrick cut! Zellner cut! Ohalate cut! These guys were starters last year, does this indicate that the Cardinals are significantly better than last year at these positions???
az1965 said:How many games did Zellner start? Not too many. I think he got injured beginning of the season?
Really? Probably the reason I don't remember him is because he didn't do anything.joeshmo said:
Played in all 16 games. Started 14 of them.

Any way not my point... Last year Hambrick, Zellner, Ohalate made the Cards a better than previously, this year they seem expendable. That would imply the Cards are a better team than last year!

Redmond and King lost for the season. I guess it could be worse but both guys looked very promising this preseason.
