At least this offseason has been intresting.

Looks like this is going to be an action packed training camp as well.

I just heard a short interview with Green on channel 15.
He said that after reviewing tape of past years they needed to shake up the O line because they weren't getting the job done and he felt Pete was expendable after drafting two centers.
He went on to say he hopes Pete is picked up by another team.
Payback and a statement is what it looks like.

Man, is he ever making a statement...

I'd rather have cut Clement and stuck LJ at RT, but I have no clue on contracts and such.

intresting...

jeez Chris - why do you bother coming here at all? I mean don't you ever have anything positive to say whatsoever? :D

You're right about the long run thing though and ultimately that's all I care about - this team has tried to stick bandaids on a gusher for too long - one more season of learning on the job won't hurt and I guarantee you this team won't be losing games and insuring me 500 dollar winnings in Vegas for betting against them in road games - man did that suck last year. I actually made my living off the Cardinals for a month while unemployed in December - simply by betting almost everything I had against them in the 49ers game and then rolling that over into the Seattle game - but man the Seattle game was close. I wanted to kill that fan who ran on the field stopping the clock with like 20 seconds left and us with no timeouts down by 18 - that was a very close one!

I'm with you. I was/am a fan of Kendall, but cutting him doesn't throw the season in the toilet. I, like everyone else should, will wait to see how this decision is explained by Green.

Really now - camp hasn't started and you guys are bailing. Take another hit of kool aid. We won four games last year. We could probably cut everyone but Quan and would be no worse. Kendell was no Hall of Famer. How many yards did we gain rushing? How many sacks? This too shall pass. Sign the frikin' draft picks!!!!

Word. Kendall has missed 11 games the last three years. His engine is running on fumes. I have no problem with letting him go. It's not like we were a Super Bowl contender with him anyway.

It makes me laugh that people are all ready throwing in the towel and Training Camp hasn't even started yet. I guess having Mac and his status quo every week was better.

I would expect that Green wil provide us with a plausible explanation although I would bet lunch that the real reason wont be known for a while.

[font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Cardinals Coach Dennis Green opened his first training camp with a major surprise, cutting veteran center Pete Kendall, regarded as one of the team's top offensive linemen.

Green was not immediately available for comment, but in the spring, he described Kendall as one of the team's few established players. He's obviously had a change of heart.

Kendall passed his physical on Sunday and was packing his car for the start of training camp in Flagstaff when he received news of his release. He was not immediately available for comment.

The purge is on. LJ Shelton may be next. Or Player. Or Dexter Jackson. Or anybody who isn't buying into Green's program.

This had to be an intentional message. Green just cut the team's best lineman. Unbelievable. My guess is that it was Kendall who pushed the union complaint.

Maybe we all should learn from this Skkorp. Sometimes silence is golden!!!!

Remember it is either the DG way or the Highway!!!!!

Greeen seems to be a pretty good chess player. By cutting Kendall now Green has put Kendall in a position that the best thing to do is zip it in order to try and catch on with another team. If Kendall starts to beef it reduces his value on the market

In the minority

Maybe I'm in the minority but I just don't see PK as being a great O lineman or even our best O lineman. I think he seems to get injured every year and I agree with a previous statement that he doesn't have much left in the tank. I've been concerned about his play ever since he had the foot injury that he had a lot of problems getting over. I just think it comes down to having a younger more dependable player in the lineup. I think PK just couldn't be counted on to be healthy. If thats the case lets get a young player in the game and let his youth and enthusiasm take over. I really believe Kendall would have been hard pressed to get ready to play every week.

I agree and think that much of last year's problems on the OL stemmed from Kendall's inability to make the transition to center who is the QB of the OL.

The problem is Kendall helped contribute to the 4 wins while most of the team around him contributed to the 12 losses.

I absolutely agree.

Once again like a broken record, I must say that NO BODY IS SAFE. NOT EVEN (forgive me Q) Anquan is safe. The team has sucked for too long to give somebody a job based on reputation. I was a HGUE Pete Kendell fan but he is battered, injured, and costs a lot of money.

The days of the BIG RED line are over. They died with McGinnis. They had their shot for 3 seasons and did nothing with it.

Dennis Green has a plan, and it differs from anything we have seen in 10 years so many player who are used to the old system and have problems coping are going to be told to hit the road.

I am in FULL support of what Green is doing, and can't wait to hear the next move.

As for Pete, thank you for all your effort and hard work, and we all hope to see you playing this year, unfortunately for another team.

I think LJ, and Clement are next.

People seem to be forgetting how bad we were the last two seasons. And, wasn't just two weeks ago that many were saying Green should get rid of every guy who bitched about the minicamps?

Green can be second guessed. But I do not doubt his desire to win. He put his legacy on the line by taking this job, and I know he wants to go down as one of the great coaches. He also gets a million bucks if we go to the playoffs, I'm sure he wants that check and is doing what he thinks he needs to do to get it.

Like I said on another post, Green has to use fear. He can't make the guys love him, not after Mac.

Hopped on with the hope that a pick had been signed and this is what I see.

Let me take aa stab at this situation for a moment,

How would people feel if Green had cut McCown today...they very day the players were leaving for camp? Everyone would have been even more bewildered and pissed about that and this is where I really really disagree with this move.

Kendall was the QB of the OL. He made the calls and I would be willing to bet he made mostly right calls (executing the calls is something completely different). So Lindsey is going to take his place??? Just what I want...Minnesota Vikings Southwest. Sorry this is lunacy because the ONLY alternative right now is a rookie who has no idea what is going on in the NFL even if he did go to OSU.

I have been a vocal critic of the Green hiring thus far and this only adds fuel to the fire IMO. If this is a petty cut because someone complained about rules that WERE broken, then I will have lost all respect I have for Green because clearly this wasn't an injury issue. Stupid bastard hacks players to satisfy his ego an for really no other reason.

Go AZ Vikings...er I mean...Cardinals.

BTW, as Green is building this "powerhouse" always remember he is not a closer. He never won a Super Bowl as coach...nor did he make it. That may not matter to win starved Cards fans but it should.

You're right. Let's bring down the curtain on the "Dennis Green Era". It was fun while it lasted.

Sounds good to me. It will save alot of broken hearts and anger down the road. I said it before, I will say it again. When Green leaves this team in the shambles he will leave it in, we will all look back fondly on the Buddy Ryan era.

Explain to me for one moment, since you are so sure of things, how this cut makes ANY sense when he is placing a rookie at the most inportant position on the OL?

Me too! Oh well, heres my take.

I thought PK was one of the great leaders on this team and an all around good guy. I also remember him moving to Center to extend his injury plagued career. Something has happened either mutually between PK and DG or the new O-line coach has noticed PK can no longer pull in the blocking scheme like he used to. Which would make sense if he was moving positions to extend his playing years.

It's freaky right now but WTF, can we do worse than 4-12? No, not really. The perfect 0-16 season is all that we haven't accomplished while residing in the bottom of the NFL.

I liked Pete but, if the team is .500 or better this season not one of us will ever mention cutting PK as the turning point. By the same token, if we are 4-12 again the release of Kendall will not be brought up as the reason why.
