I agree, I don't get all the negativity for Gresham. One of only 3 TEs to reach those stats 5 years running yet if you said Gates or Olsen signed with the Cardinals everyone would be gushing about how great of a TE they are. I think this has the potential to be the best signing all of 2015. Yes there may be questions about his health but if he is fine then I think he is going to be one of Palmer's favorite 3rd down targets. I project 45-50 catches and 5-7 TDs. for 500+ yards.

This.

Low risk move. If He flops, it doesn't hurt anyone on the roster and won't kill the payroll. Not sure why anyone is whining about this move.

And this.

In the interest of fairness, I've read that JG is an ABOVE AVERAGE BLOCKER, and I'm more concerned that he helps the team improve its running game. Anything we get from him in the passing game is gravy, imo. Bottom line, we are better off at the TE position, than we were before his signing.

''He’s graded out below average in 4 of 5 seasons in the NFL, including each of the last 3. He was a little better in 2014, but he ranked 61st out of 62 eligible tight ends in 2012 and 64th out of 64 eligible in 2013.''

those grades are pretty weird ,just curious how they came from

That's not me. That's similar to what I posted on the Gresham thread when he came in for a visit. I use stats from FootballOutsiders. Someone had a ProFootballFocus stat that said he was pretty terrible last year.

I expect fewer than 35 receptions, fewer than 400 yards, and fewer than 4 TDs. He's going to be competing for touches more here than he ever had to in Cincy.

I'd like to see some substantiation on Gresham being an above-average blocker. He had one drill on Hard Knocks two years ago. Big deal.

K9 you said you would be fine with it as long as we didn't overpay and didn't get into a bad contract.

I think both of those conditions have been met with flying colors.

This is a good move by the FO.

What's interesting to me about the Gresham signing is to see what BA and CP can do with him---he's very talented, but like a number of high draft picks with lofty expectations, he's battled inconsistency. Thus, if the chemistry is right in AZ in BA's blocking system with a QB who wants to get him the ball, there's a chance that he could raise the level of his impact and production.

IIRC Fells was starting to look like a decent TE last year.

If we have two average TE's next year.... it will be the first time in decades.

I think they've done a good job with the TE position. I believe Niklas will be a very good TE when he's healthy this year & Gresham will prove a lot of people wrong & be successful. ;)

I don't get the nagativity at all. TE is our most unproven/weakest position. Signing Gresham can't hurt. Love the potential it adds.

Talked with my Bengals friend who is a season ticket holder with them. He likes Gresham, says he's a good blocker but drops too many passes, and is a fumbler.

The negativity is a head scratcher for sure.

JG in 5 years has fumbled 11 times and lost 6 of them. Last year he had 3 fumbles but none of them were lost. Part of the problem is that he reaches the ball out to convert first downs---something that helps move the chains but can lead to fumbles.

In 3 playoff games he has never fumbled. In his last playoff game (2013) he had 7 catches on 8 targets for 64 yards (9.1), a TD and 5 first downs.

3 playoff games and 14 receptions isn't a sample size for defending fumblitis, is it?

Jermaine Gresham has fumbled 11 times on 280 career receptions. 3.9% of career receptions or once every 25 catches(!).

Larry Fitzgerald has fumbled 7 times in 909 career receptions — once every 130 catches.

Rob Gronkowski has fumbled twice in 308 career receptions — once every 154 grabs.

Jason Witten has fumbled 5 times in 943 career receptions — once every 189 catches.

Jimmy Graham has fumbled 5 times in 386 career receptions — once every 77 receptions.

So, yeah. Jermaine Gresham has a pretty sever fumbling problem.

So now that you have been proven absolutely incorrect on Gresham being in the bottom 3rd of he league in receptions and touchdowns you are going to hammer on the fumbles and drops.

Well, at least we know who your whipping boy is for the season.

The guy is on a 1 year prove it contract. If he coughs up the ball he won't get it. He was still the best option available to upgrade a weak position at this time.

Hilarious. Where did I specify "receptions and touchdowns"? I always backed up my opinions with facts, including context. He has been a remarkably inefficient receiver his entire career, and below average in efficient for every year but one.

But, whatever. He's not a clear upgrade above Fells and Niklas; welcome to the team.

Yikes. This is dumb. PACard puts up a bogus five-year stat and you're all excited to jump on it? Let's go year-by-year.

Year -- Rec Rank -- TD Rank -- Ydg Rank

2014 -- 11th -- 11th -- 21st

2013 -- 19th -- T17th -- 23rd

2012 -- 7th -- T10th -- 8th

2011 -- 13th -- T7th -- 18th

2010 -- 12th -- T15th -- 23rd

Looks like an amazing, top-shelf TE! He continually underperforms his expected yardage total! He was eclipsed in his offense by Mohamed Sanu! They drafted Tyler Eifert to replace him!
