Yikes. This is dumb. PACard puts up a bogus five-year stat and you're all excited to jump on it? Let's go year-by-year.

Year -- Rec Rank -- TD Rank -- Ydg Rank

2014 -- 11th -- 11th -- 21st

2013 -- 19th -- T17th -- 23rd

2012 -- 7th -- T10th -- 8th

2011 -- 13th -- T7th -- 18th

2010 -- 12th -- T15th -- 23rd

Looks like an amazing, top-shelf TE! He continually underperforms his expected yardage total! He was eclipsed in his offense by Mohamed Sanu! They drafted Tyler Eifert to replace him!

Sanu killed it for a few weeks too.

I just wanted to clarify Gresham's 2 Pro-Bowl selections...

2012 - Wasn't initially a Pro-Bowler, he was the 3rd alternate
2013 - Again, wasn't initially a Pro-Bowler, he was the 1st alternate after the Patroits made it to the superbowl so Gronk missed the pro-bowl.

Still, only 2 TEs get into the pro-bowl per conference... so in 2012 he was rated 5th & in 2013 he was rated 3rd by the pro-bowl committee in the AFC. He did get lucky that Gronk went to the SB & Heath Miller tore his ACL, but his play still put him in position to be selected.

We don't need him to have 50-60 catches in our offense because we have so many other weapons. In fact, he should be open more often because defenses are focusing on our other weapons. It should be much easier than when he was the 2nd option behind AJ Green... which was really just in 2012... every other year in Cinci he was the 3rd-5th option (according to targets).

Hopefully, he brings that pro-bowl caliber ability to a Cardinals team in desperate need of healthy capable TEs... and he doesn't fumble... or get arrested

I don't think he is a world beater by any means but on our team he is light years above anyone we have. Of course, that assumes he stays healthy.

Still, you did say his production places him in the bottom third of starting NFL tight ends. That's not supported by your numbers here.

If gresham is our top TE by the end of the year, it says all we need to know about Troy Niklas.

If Gresham is our top TE by the end of the year, then it's a damn good thing we picked him up.

The numbers indicate Gresham is an average starting NFL tight end, a significant improvement for us. To expect Niklas to be an above average tight end this year, after barely getting on the field last year, might be a bit of a reach.

Niklas doesn't have to be an above average TE this year but he needs to get, and stay, on the field while showing some skill that made the Cards feel he was worthy of a 2nd round pick.

I'm assuming you are talking about the stats I posted in the other thread about Gresham. Maybe you should do your homework more carefully. Those stats came directly from the NFL web site so I am pretty sure they are accurate unless you are now saying the NFL has bogus stats for players.

We all need to be cynical of what we read from these sports writers . I quoted a statement from Arizona Sports in this thread , that turned out to be totally false . Their timeline of the back surgery was off by three months when I did the fact check . Turns out that masterphomeg knew more about the timeline of the surgery than Arizona Sports .
Time for a football minds refresher .
Dansby --- If he had played in Miami at the same level he played in 2013 for our Cards , would he have been on the FA market for us to get him dirt cheap ?
The point is , none of us know what Gresham will bring to the Cardinals table . I am leaning on the positive side , because of our Coaching , and Veteran players leadership.

Nowhere have I said he is top shelf. But you were very firm in saying he was bottom 3rd in the league as far as TD and reception production, and clearly that statement was incorrect.

And Niklas is nursing an injured hamstring to start camp.

:bang:

jesus... might as well start calling him Mr. Glass at this point.

as for Gresham... I wouldn't expect much until the second half of the season for a guy who underwent back surgery four months ago.

In the past players who have had the same surgery were cleared to practice about 12 weeks after the surgery. Gresham just hit that mark last week which is why he started working out for teams.

The Gronk had similar surgery a couple of years ago. Here is a good read on his return:

Also with Gresham being on the Preseason PUP list he can be moved off the PUP list and activated at anytime.

So it's just a matter of the Cardinals medical staff and Gresham being comfortable that he is ready for Football related contact. I think he will be out there for a couple of pre-season games if all goes well.

Him being on the PUP list allows another body in camp right? If so there is your answer. They undoubtedly knew this was the plan going in.

Exactly. He's not in football shape and it frees up a space for another camp body.
