Butler did want to come here and Wiz did want him. But his hip surgery had a set back becuase after the surgery he fell down and had to go back to the hospital again and wont be able to even fly for another 2 weeks minimum so Butler decided the timing was not right.

New QB coach will be former QB Chris Miller. Who was actually in training camp last year as an intern.

There will be not be an Offensive Coordinator named. Wiz will call the plays. Mike Miller will have the title of Passing game coordinator and Russ Grimm will run the offense in practices during the week as well as work with Miller in gameplanning.

Some coaches were interviewed to take the place of Mike Miller who has new responsibilites. Al Suanders was one of them as well as I think he said the Boston College OC.

Dedric Ward our Quality control Coach will go to KC as the WR coach.

Carthon wants to go to KC and be teh RB's coach. Not sure if Cards will allow him since it isnt a promotion.

Matt Riach I think thats his name who is our D quality control coach will take the LB coach job.

All info and an official announcement will have to wait until Wednesday before the coaches leave for the Combine.

All according to Jurecki.

.
So why not fly and meet him for an interview there? This makes no sense to me. If both Whis and Butler wanted to make the Cardinal marriage happen, I really dont get this...

so did he confirm Davis as the guy?

also, Logan (BCs offensive coordinator) took a job with Jags in Tampa

Al Saunders has some long stints with several teams in the nfl....a very seasoned vet who if anything would be a wr or rb coach....i believe he had a coupla' years running sd.

Man, for a team coming off a Super Bowl, these developments are mind boggling.

But...I do have faith in Whiz and while there are some role shifts among the assistants, there is enough continuity.

The key is Davis and his ability to seize his new role with aplomb.

If Butler was truly interested, he could have accepted over the phone. Sounds like he really would rather wait for LeBeau's job.

Sounds like the hip reason is an easy way to let down an old friend, i.e., trying to be nice about it.

I think your absolutely right, spyboots. There's no urgency to have Butler at the combine, especially when he can watch it all himself on NFL Channel and do the research on the players, which he will have to do anyway for the LBers in this draft.

Exactly. You are correct, Mitch.

I'm worried about the staff. Hopefully we are not looking within to cut cost...

I'm not really concerned about most of it.

With Wiz being as smart as he is I have no doubt he felt Davis was a great fallback option and I agree he would likely have been gone to KC if not so that says something that two respected offensive coachs both wanted him - and further more over a mediocre defensive coach who went on a good run. Many wouldn't have seen the forest through the trees on that. Its funny because the majority of the people killing the Davis move were completely against Pendergsat staying - so which is it?

I expected Wiz to be the offensive play caller anyway and maybe he sees Miller as a rising star ala Haley?

As for Butler? Well who knows what to believe. If he really wanted the role I find it hard to believe he wouldn't have made it happen.

We will see. Keep in mind announcements still not been made. Maybe things aren't official yet.

Since the FO is saving so much money by not hiring an OC they should perhaps consider letting Whis hire an OL assistant for Grimm. joe- what is the status on Saunders? Is he still under consideration?

So a DC is still unnamed but it will likely be Butler. At least that's how I read it.

Also, count me thrilled overrated loser Al Saunders is not coming here. Overall, I like it.

Edit #2. Please let Carthon go. Sure, he's a Parcells favorite but seems to be a worthless coach.

It's curious that Maurice Carthon wants to make a lateral move to be the KC RB coach. On the one hand, he and Haley were from the Parcells camp...yet, on the other, wasn't it Carthon who scouted Tim Hightower, urged the team to draft him and went right to work grooming him?

If Miller was promoted to passing game corrdinator, why wasn't Dedric Ward re-assigned to the WR job, which he is taking at KC?

Wiz. He the man.

I am absolutely confident that the coaching of this football team (whomever that might be) will be up to the task of getting us back to the super bowl.

Wiz. He the man.

I guess Jureki also said he couldn't confirm or deny if the job was offered to Butler or not. He was still trying to get to the bottom of it. Also, Butler was to get into a car, with someone else, and drive to the combine where he could of been interviewed in person there also but Whiz wanted his staff in place before the combine on Wednesday. I think Jureki said Butler was still going to the combine but I'm not sure with the setback with the fall and all.
Interesting on how the offensive side is being handled. Grimm being the OC Monday through Saturday, Chris Miller being the "Passing Cordinator" and Whiz handling the play calling duties on Sunday. I hope this makes a great marriage but it seems like there are too many "cooks in the kitchen" if you know what I mean. I hope there aren't rumblings when certain people start being second guessed about not being prepared for Sunday or with play calling. I guess we will just wait and see. They are the professional coaches and we are the amatuer coaches and GMs.

I guess you have to go with Whis on his staff appointments but it sure seems confusing. Guess we just need to wait for the official word. I'll withhold judgment for now.

SMH. None of that sounded good.

One step forward, two steps back. :(

As some of you have noted Whisenhunt isn't infallible but I think he deserves a little more benefit of the doubt then some of us arm chair GM's seem willing to give him.

He did just take the ARIZONA CARDINALS to the Super Bowl after all. This isn't Denny Green you are second guessing.

What does any of us know about Butler other then he is the Steeler's LB coach? Why is it assumed that Davis can't do an even better job even though that he is the brains behind the "predator", knows the personnel, and has the buy in of the players who just went to the Super Bowl? PLus having the experience of being a DC (even with a garbage team like the 9ers) has to be a plus. People CAN learn from their mistakes ala Belicheck, right?

It's all conjecture at this point by people who know MUCH less then the staff in place.

Lets trust in Whisenhunts judgement until he gives us reason not to.

I don't care if a bunch of third graders coach this team as long as we win.

Ive seen this pointed out by a few fans now...

Can someone fill me on as why this "Predator" position is being talked about like it's some amazing role that was created that led to sack after sack after sack??

To be knowledge we sucked at rushing the QB all season, and the predators weren't all that effective... so why are people acting like this "Predator" position is some item of genius?
