Pure, Veteran Minimum Back-up signing.

Probably not even high enough to be in our top 51 salaries that count against the cap. If it did it pushed someone else out of the top 51 and it would only increase the cap 100k, 200k, max.

Not a signing to make anyone happy or sad.

Agree, backup, added depth & competition during training camp. Knows our system.

Right. Let's bitch at the FO for signing back-ups. Every player on our squad has to be starter quality. Talk about being unreasonable.

I'm not bitching about signing him because he provides depth, but hoping this isn't the end of us pursuing a quality OT in free agency.

My ideal situation would be to get a legit LT in free agency and use the draft to improve in other positions and add depth.

As is my position. We have over a month until the draft. Let's give them a little more time before we condemn them for not making this kind of move. Bell is still in the mix, although I am starting to be concerned about him because no one has signed him yet. I wonder if there is a problem?

Why would re-signing a backup stop us from chasing a starter?

Seriously. Mike, Rod & Ken are at Stanford today to look at a possible OT for the first round.
Or a guard. Let's hope it's the guard. Martin put up 20 reps today, narrowly beating out his combine total of 19. That's not a good sign.

But what about his cone shuttle time and Wonderlic?

20 reps for an OT is the least of my concerns.

What????? No Grimm????? That IS good news. Signing Batiste is a good move on our part. He has been learning, and has been high on the coaching staff's list of promising developmental players. With a prolonged off season and TC, he might be ready to make the transition to compete for a starting slot. If they can clear some cap space------Bell is still in the mix also. This may be riding on getting Campbell's contract re-worked at this point.

I am glad that they are looking at Martin in Palo Alto. He might not be the strong road grader type we normally sign, but he WAS successful in keeping Andrew Luck the best protected QB in college the past two years. Simply getting a decent pass blocker on the Left Side might be a big help to this O-line. They might also be getting a good feel about his signability, so that they know if he should even be considered in the draft.
