The only jersey I have owned for 10 years. So its a sad day and proof of what I thought of the guy. But it is also the correct move. A move the likes of the Patriots, Packers, and Steelers make and continue to make. You don't pay a 34 year old DT coming off of an ACL injury 6.5 mill in base salary.

So on to the business at hand. Losing Williams, what ever, losing Dockett, what ever, losing Kelly, whatever. But losing all three

I don't think people give enough Credit to how well Rucker is playing. Dockett had 4.5 sacks in 2013, Rucker had 5 last year(in fewer snaps). I also dont think we talk enough about how much of a nice surprise Ed Stinson was as well. But this D is predicated on a DLine rotation. And right now there are only three of them I trust in that rotation, Campbell, Stinson, and Rucker. Need at minimum two more and we dont know if Mauro or Martin are those guys. Got to bring back Williams or Kelly, or sign a guy I would trust to be in that rotation in free agency.

Hopefully it wasn't completely acrimonius to get to this point, just a genuine disagreement on Dockett's market value. That way, if it turns out the Cards are right in judging his value, Dockett will still be willing to come back here. I'm more optimistic this can happen than a couple of hours ago after reading a couple of articles.

MESA! :thud:
Uh, Adrian Wilson??

I root for the logo, not the player. If he comes back great, if not I'd rather they be contending for a SB instead of trying to appease players.

Smart franchises let players go when it's time.
I root for both. I don't think Adub was MORE loyal than Dockett. Equally? Sure.

I love 9-0 & his passion for the Cardinals. He has been BY FAR the most vocal about his loyalty to the team. Yeah, I'm mad to see him go.

which was a tough move... but the right one.

this organization ain't playing to to tug on heart-strings... it's playing to win now. Don't like seeing him gone, but like that the organization realizes it's close to title contention and nostalgia ain't gonna get them there.
This is well said and I agree. Love Dock, but agree with your post.

Me too.

His genuine passion for the game, and for the Cardinals was special. A unique character who stuck to his personal beliefs but also matured and learned to be a leader of men.

These are the times where fans understand that it is a business but this kind of move SUCKS! Just SUCKS!

He will be missed, and I hope him the best. A guy like Ed Stinson may be able to replace the 34 year old Dockett, but he is not going to replace the player Dockett was in his prime. One of the quickest off the snap I have every seen. I will always remember the forced fumble in the Atlanta playoff game. IMO, that started that amazing playoff run.

Agree with this too, but Dockett now couldn't replace Dock in his prime.

I forget which coach it was, someone will have to refresh my memory, but he said it's better to cut a player a year early than a year late.

I think that was something Parcells used to say.

What issue?
the current salary cap structure. I don't like it. I think it has improved the NFL much like the BCS improved college football..but they need to change the financial structure to let the teams that want to spend more money do such. it has made the league more competitive no doubt, but I don't see why it can't be altered to improve the league more than it haS. you still have a handfull of franchises dominating the league, a handfull that suck, and a lot of others that just spin their wheels trying to figure it out. and from a players perspective they play in the most grueling sport known to man physically and they don't have guaranteed contracts...

Don't see that happening anytime soon. Part of the reason why the NFL is so huge is the parity of the league. No other pro sports league gives the fans of their teams legitimate hope to do well every season. Give teams the ability to pay as much as they want for a roster, that parity would start to break down. Since you are a Dallas fan, I understand why you want the hard cap to go away.

Keim said it last year in regards to losing Dansby and not ponying up a four year deal.

it's one reason the Dan Williams thing is a head scratcher to me. You've got a guy who you know works great in your system and is in his prime. 3.5 seems like a no brainer to me... but what do I know?

I go Adub. He was here in the TRULY, TRULY dark years.

That single tear running down his face with confetti dropping behind him while being interviewed right after the NFC Title game is an image that will remain burned in the my head and heart forever.

I'm with you on that man. Letting both DD and Williams walk makes no sense to me.

As crazy as it sounds, and I know it sounds insane, is if they somehow sign Suh (and I don't even know if that's possible, one of the capologists on here can explain it to us) or another high value FA DT or DE. Nothing else makes sense. Unless they're going to roll with fill-in guys on the D-line and pick up a stud LB somewhere.

You don't clear up that can space and jettison those two for the draft, you do a move like that for FA. And I can't for the life of me figure it out.

that's valid point. i don't want it to go away because if it did I don't necessarily think that would help the league or even the cowboys as much as people would think it would. look at the yankees....

but I do think the structure could improve to help teams retain players that deserve to be retained or end their careers with their team for the players, fans, and owners sake. the english premier league doesn't have a cap and it does just fine. I don't agree with that either just saying that the NFL isn't necessarily the undisputed best sports league out there.

Totally with you!! DD whom I like still had many of his own what I call "Anquan moments" towards the organization... Refusing to wear his jersey at his PB jersey presentation in protest... Wanting to rip up an already restructured deal with 3 years left on it and pouting the whole time about it openly in the media...

His recent twitter outbursts this time.. Pay him and he's happy that's all it boils done to... Which is normal so I don't blame him... But he has some angst in his heart over the years with management that much is clear.

People will say it was all because of "passion" when really it's about greed to a certain extent... Don't recall Adub being as vocal or spewing real angst towards the organization like DD..

After seeing what Keim has pulled off the past 2 years in free agency i have 100% trust that he has a damn good plan.

You know what- dude is a showboat.

He was just calling out Dansby for not taking a pay cut last year; crying how he wasn't a team player type guy, with all we had going on.

I wish him the best of luck, but he is full of ****; folks on this board have a warped sense of what is important to athletes as well as organizations.

Business move. Dude will be fine. He may come and break it off in our butts at some point, but I actually doubt it. I know 9-0 has been here from the start, but let's try to be real... He's being real.

Will never forget the moment. Maybe the highlight of my fan experience with the cards.

Yep, it's what we had to do.

I'm hoping this gives us a little wiggle room to get Dan Williams re-signed. Need two young pieces on that D-line and don't want to have to waste a high draft pick on a spot we know was solid. Unless they're planning on making a big DT spalsh.

YES!!!

As much as i love Dockett the player ... Dockett the person is all talk...
some will remember this but during training camp this past season he tweeted to all his fans to wear their dd jerseys one wednesday and he would hook them up with something.

A ton of people obviously did myself included and nada... tons of people tweeted him and he didn't acknowledge it...

dude stood up his fans...

so hearing him talk all that stuff about dansby and now obviously not agreeing with the cards number its classic dockett.
