I love Dockett, but his leverage was destroyed by the combined play of Tommy Kelly and Frostee Rucker.

Too bad for both parties in this

Nope, just bad for DD IMO.

People argue against my point, that we were far better without Dockett.
But the proof was in the pudding.. Last season we watched a Championship level defense, that had the misfortune of having QB #2 and #3 keep them on the field far longer than they should have been.

Dockett isn't worth half of what he wants, not a year ago, or even 3 years ago.

Failed physical released by the cards is a death sentence for DD

call espn or NFL network

Cards may sign him as a back up IF his knee checks but NO team is touching him with the release he failed a physical after an acl surgery when he's 34

This isn't really surprising. He would have been in danger of being cut without the injury. There aren't many 34 year old interior DL around the league. Throw the knee issue on top of it and I doubt he gets more than veteran minimum anywhere.

I would guess this move brings Malcolm Brown and other DT's into the mix at 24.

I go Adub. He was here in the TRULY, TRULY dark years.

That single tear running down his face with confetti dropping behind him while being interviewed right after the NFC Title game is an image that will remain burned in the my head and heart forever.

It was at that moment that I knew I was going to the super bowl. I didn't care what it costs.

Pretty passive response for him. The failed physical changes things in a big way. He probably sees that a return to the Cards might be his only path back to the NFL so better not burn the bridge. I really expected some negative bravado from him.

he got 36 mil instead of 43 in his last contract at 34
i think he should be happy of this, very few can get the 90% of the money at his age

True but the facts are not that important to a prideful man. He has been very critical of the NFL about the fact that contracts are not guaranteed. The fact that so far his response is low key is telling.

A failed physical doesn't change anything. He's six months removed from an ACL tear! Of course he wasn't going to pass a physical. What nonsense. Do yo think Carson Palmer could pass a physical right now?

Yes it does. I should have clarified my point. I do think he will pass his physical but the timing is the issue here because going into free agency coming off an ACL he is in a terrible position to go out and test the upper end of his market. If he had a few more months before the new season year things would be much more in his favor.

I think this failed physical stuff is a bunch of BS. Why would DD be taking a physical at this time?? I never heard anything about him being 100% healthy at this time especially after his ACL injury.

You can't cut an injured player. You have to reach an injury settlement to release an injured player. Since the Cards have said nothing about a settlement I too doubt this report of a failed physical.

The failed physical designation is just dotting the i's and crossing the t's. Chris Canty also was released with that nomenclature.

Injury settlements are based on predicted length of time needed to recover from the injury paid in game checks. Being out for the year, Darnell was placed on IR and received 16 game checks. He has been paid his injury settlement. So they can release him as an injured player.

It's natural to blame the teams when we see a beloved veteran get cast aside, but it is the system that is to blame. The players who are going to get paid with the money freed up by releasing Dockett are just as culpable as the team. And when Darnell got paid, he was responsible for somebody else being shown the door.
