Excellent, since we didn't hire Heimerdinger maybe we can get him as the OC (-:

Very excited, as long as they don't turn Green loose ala Buddy Ryan, and I don't think they will with Graves, I think he can help turn this around.

If only we had the first pick and not the third so we knew for sure we could get Manning or Ben I'd be elated.

Welcome Dennis Green!!!!

Well, I've had my fingers crossed ever since it came out we were talking to him. But, I can hardly believe it.

Hope is alive and well! I already can't wait for next season. It's Jan. 7th and I feel like it's the morning of the first preseason game!

There are similarities. Green and Ryan both want their way and will do anything in their power to get it. So, right off that bat I'll clue you into a couple of things that will probably happen.
Emmitt Smith is gone. Green has no problem moving out embedded icons. He did in Minnesota with no head coaching experience and he’ll definitely do it here.
The Josh McCown experiment is probably over, as well. Green likes a certain mold of quarterback (think Warren Moon, Jeff George, Dante Cullpepper).
No more trading down in the draft. Green has a philosophy of taking the best available athlete with his picks. Had he been here last year, that dreadful deal never would have taken place.
Good assistants, proactive personnel decisions, basically everything that the previous administration (including Mr. Graves) wasn't about. I'm excited and that's rare. As I (and Tango) explained earlier, Green moves front office execs out early and often. So those who have built an attachment to this puppet personnel man: Sorry, he's gone. Graves has two years, probably less. Before anyone freaks out, you have to understand that Green's philosophy on personnel is completely different than the plodding Graves. I know they've talked about this great working relationship, but it's just not a match. (Quite frankly I can think of no top name coaches who do think like Graves). With the big contract, everyone in the Cards organization knows who essentially is calling the shots. Graves will find out very soon.
Very good hire and everyone should be excited. I know I am.

Greatest day in AZ Cardinal history. I was pulling for Fassel, but I'm still tickled that this franchise finally took off the gloves. I've been a Cardinal fan for 40 yrs, this is truly a great moment. Hiring Green was only possible because enough AZ residents voted YES to a new stadium. Now we have an EXPERIENCED, WINNING HC & a new stadium just around the corner. I really, really believe that this franchise has turned the corner. GOOD TIMES ARE A' COMING!!!!!!

Thank you for noticing! A lot of us worked damn hard to get that passed, and it's great to see it pay off!

I am a cautious man by nature - called away from his dinner table (Sushi by the way - in response to the mean-spirited comparisons to Fergy and Ned Beatty on another thread) by Carl P, who gave me a heads-up about the signing of Green. I'm therefore, inclined to withhold jumping for joy and pecking my own lips off until I see some sort of corroborating report from one other source.

I see your point but let's at least wait, from the sound of it Graves was instrumental in hiring Green so I gotta believe if he felt Green was going to get him canned, he would have pushed another candidate.

I like Emmitt, I think he did some good things with the young guys, but I for one think Shipp should be the RB so if Green does force him out, as long as it's done "with class" I'm ok with it. I was against signing him and I was against Mac's decision to name him the starter with no competition, I think Emmitt handled the whole thing well it wasn't his fault, but I think the best thing for this team is more Shipp and less Emmitt.

I'm really curious to see what happens at QB, I'm beginning to think I imagined Green talking up Blake during teh season because I can't find any link anywhere where he said it. All I've found is Mortenson saying Blake throws the most catchable deep ball in the NFL, if he had anybody who could get deep and catch it, and a comment that Green looked at Blake in both 98 and 99 but wound up with Cunningham and then George in 99. Blake was with Cincy both years so it's not like he was available and Green passed on him I assume Cincy simply wanted more than he was willing to offer so he went elsewhere. I bet we draft Eli or Ben AND retain Blake in a new system that fits his strengths better.
