7th best pass defense last year. Yep...totally torched!
I notice you mention pass defense overall, not our corners individually. Yes, all of our corners were beaten on a consistent basis, as you know.

How are you feeling about our corner situation? I see a decent slot corner, and a lot of question marks.

OK... so let's see: Our pass "D" except for the all-important corners was better than 25 others.

We at worst have the same questions that we had going into the last offseason.

What i will say about CB is that Vance loves running zone and hates giving up big plays. Generally speaking soft-zone scheme don't really benefit top end CBs.

In contract, Vance is terrible scheming mismatches up front so he tends to rely on players winning one-on-one matchups. Generally speaking, these types of schemes require better players.

With an invisible pass rush for the majority of the season no less.
Invisible? https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...opping-blocking-leaderboard-win-rate-rankings

These guys were supposed to be good! Now we're minus Chan (one of two players requiring gameplanning), and have to replace Phillips as well.

Our pass rush definitely weakened once Watt went down, but that's kind of what happens with Watt at this point. Very curious to see what is done on the D line. I see Watt, who is great but unreliable, and a bunch of major question marks.

Both Gardner and McDuffie are pretty talented and would have to be considered if they fall to us. Stingley is a ?
I also think Stingley & Booth are better than Horn coming out. Of course, a lot of durability question marks above Stingley.

Yeah it's complete fake news that the corners are trash AND the Cardinals had the 7th pass defense.

Imagine if Gladney was picked 31st last year by the Vikings, played 90% of snaps as a rookie, started rough but improved. Vikings fans seem to like him. Then we trade a 7th round pick for him. A 1st rounder with 900 snaps.

The board would be nuts on value. A 7th for the #31 a year ago.

Yet we do the same for free after a year out and most people are "meh, development potential".

Yeah, well said
The only concern are off field issues
But on the field can be a player to rely on in the future
I think he is a better outside corner then Murphy and the Marco Wilson at the moment

I'd be fine with it if we brought Alford back at vet min who did well last year.

They tend to only keep 4 on the 53 with Whitaker on the PS.

So Murphy, Wilson, Gladney and Alford. Plus the possibility they may draft someone.
What about Hamilton?

kinda lost in all the attention the offense and K1 got for the last 6 weeks of the season was that the Cardinals pass defense was bottom 3 during that stretch (and after being really good for the first 12 weeks or so).

thats with Chandler Jones and Marcus Golden there for all those games.

what did happen is that Robert Alford went down, Marco Wilson was lost for a couple games, Byron Murphy was nicked

After the Chicago game here are the QB ratings surrendered: LAR 136, DET 139, INDY 112, DAL 109, SEA 109, LAR 156. The D gave up 16 TDS during that stretch vs 1 INT.

If a top notch CB prospect drops to 23, I have no problem taking one

I don’t think you need to add a top CB to just not trot out a bunch of fringe nfl cbs. Our problem is that we lacked too CB talent and also lacked depth. Most teams struggle when they are starting their 3rd and 4th CBs

Did you notice the date of the article? October is closer to the beginning of the season.

Is Breshaud Breeland still on the team? I checked the official site and he’s not listed but not sure if they list PS players. I really wanted to see what he could do.

Wow. I think they are actually pretty good. Interesting.

As much as Surtain and Horn that is. Not saying I don't like any of them at all. But last year I was sure Horn and Surtain were CB1 material. I look at the top of this years class and see things I don't like on all of them.

I like Hamilton too. But I'm guessing right now he's looking for more than the vet min he signed for last year.

Alford more likely to not find a market.

Completely forgot we picked him up late. He's FA now.

Cards fans for the last 5 years

"We need more youth. Tired of Keim signing these old banged up vets"

Cards fans after signing a 25 year old #31 overall pick

"We need more vet experience. Too much youth and potential"

Let's just admit it. In the venn diagram with circles for youth, experience and cap hit the overlap where fans are happy is about this small.

Sure, let's sign an old vet that just missed the key games down the stretch after being out 2 years and is now another year older. That's a great idea lol
