While I'm sad to see Shaq go as he the best center we ever had in Phoenix, I'm glad this trade went down. Management has finally come to the realization that they need to rebuild. So many fans in Phoenix are fooled into thinking we are contenders, or are just content to have a fun high scoring team. Our window is closed, and if we pretend it isn't we'll be rebuilding for a decade rather than a few years. I expect more moves tomorrow.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Amare moved tomorrow. The guy on Realgm is vaguely eluding to that Amare will be moved and he seems to be pointing toward Chicago. Could Amare to Chicago be back on. Noah (Shaq's replacement), Tyrus Thomas, filler and the #16 could work or maybe we get Deng instead of Thomas. We could then draft Mullens with one of those pics and send him to OKC for the previously discussed package and still draft who we want with the #14 or the #16.

With the #25 we could get a late round guy that we want and we'll have 3 second rounders to play with if we are in fact getting Cleveland's. Who knows what else could come. Nash?

Great minds! :)

Or just reading the same internet rumors. ;)

Based on Coro's article and Bucher's twitter about a 'Chandler-esque' player coming back to the Suns tomorrow, and you have to add in the option of Amare going to GS for Biedrins and the #7 or somthing.

#7 would allow the Suns to draft Jordan Hill, whom apparently NY loves at #8. Who knows...

On Realgm's board, a poster said the Suns would get Tyson Chandler... maybe for Ben Wallace??

You make a solid point that I didn't think about. We better hope that OKC really likes Mullens or whoever at #14. Hopefully the deal was agreed to already or we could have screwed ourselves bad.

Darn straight. Supposedly Detroit was hot for Mullins at #15, and no one above that point seems to really need a multi-year project center.

So, maybe OKC really does want Mullins bad enough to get #14 from us?

I also wonder if Portland gets involved for Amare. Supposedly their GM had to get approval from Paul Allen after their playoff exit to 'accelerate their timeline' toward a title because Roy was that good this quickly in his career. Which means spending $$ sooner than they thought for some veteran talent. McMillian is on record as not wanting anymore rookies. Their GM has been on record about needing a superstar to win a title.

Amare? Would the Suns trade their stars in their conference or division at that level?

I'd take Aldridge or Oden. No chance it happens, but why not dream, eh?

Horrible trade... :( :bang:

Unless they get something worthwhile for Big Ben.

While reading about the Shaq unloading I see the Spurs picking up Richard Jefferson for basically Oberto and scrubs (Kurt Thomas and the devil goat boy Bruce Bowen). I hate the Spurs but they've got a good front office and pop can coach.

Please! Please! Let us move Amare for Biedrins and Randolph.

Nash, Dragic
Richardson, Barbosa
Hill, Dudley, #14
Randolph, Amundson
Biedrins, Lopez

Two shot blockers and rebounders at PF and C

IF.. the Suns get Chandler for Big Ben and maybe the #46 pick, I will forgive Kerr, and take back all the horrible things I said...

That said, I don't have any confidence the Suns could pull this off

I am not so sure why people would be happy if this team wants to rebuild. I don't trust these idiots in the FO to do anything right even if they did get our pick back!

From the end of Coro's article:

I want nothing to do with Randolph. I would hate this trade. Keep Amare unless you get lots of picks and young talent.

If this team is retooling to "compete" and this is all we got from this trade......this front office is beyond clueless. What is the freaking point? How does this trade help you "compete". By going back to Run and gun? By playing Amare at Center? Relying more on Lopez? Is that really competitive?

This trade was about avoiding the luxury tax IMO. Pure and simple. The Cavs fans are laughing their asses off. I read several posts and the general consensus is great trade no matter what happens because we gave up complete crap.

What amazes me is if the team is in rebuild mode I can understand this trade more (although still thinking we got bent over by this trade) but the Suns are disclaiming that. They want to "compete".

so we had an asset with value. we had a team desperate to add talent. we traded the valuable asset to a desperate team for essentially money (and no cap relief). i continue to be astounded by this front office. i cannot even crow "FLEXIBILITY" on this one, 'cuz the trade doesn't create any. wow.

in the past i have yelled at the FO and been proven wrong (majerle, marion, nash I, marbury trade to NY, and nash II). i just don't see it happening again here. sigh. the suns suck.

Hate to break it to everyone, but we were unable to get the 46th pick--it is now a top 40 protected 2nd rounder in 2010.

Is this true? That is the silliest thing I've ever heard.

Paying attention to the Suns on draft day is like listening to fingernails on a chalk board all day long. You just keep hoping it will just end.

Apparently, and this is unverified right now, the 46th pick was used in a previous deal Cleveland had with the Miami Heat, making that pick untouchable for them to deal.

The bigger question is why did the Suns go along with it after losing that pick--when all reports were saying they were going to use it to leverage moving up in the draft... What a bunch of idiots.

If that was the case, it would be Cleveland's problem. We should demand their first round pick for one of our seconds. Cleveland has more to lose if this trade falls through than we do.

Cavs site confirms.

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2009/06/nba_approves_trade_making_shaq.html

CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers have completed their trade for Shaquille O'Neal, having gotten the league office to approve it this morning. But it did require a tweak that impacts tonight's NBA Draft.

On a technicality, the Cavs could not send the Phoenix Suns their second round pick, the 46th overall, in addition to Sasha Pavlovic and Ben Wallace plus cash to complete the trade. So the Cavs will now keep that pick and instead send the Suns next season's second round pick.

That selection, though, is protected if it is in the top 40 picks. If it is, the Suns will get the Cavs second round pick in 2011.

It was held up because the Cavs already had a standing deal with the Miami Heat involving the 46th pick. The Cavs got it from the Bulls two years ago and it was involved in the trade last year to get Darnell Jackson. The Miami Heat ended up with the Cavs' second round pick, No. 60, in that trade. In the swap for Jackson the Heat were assured the lower of the Cavs' two second round picks and to make that deal they had to promise they would not trade either pick.

I don't see this Houston deal being real. The report is:

- Amare and Barbosa to Houston
- McGrady, Carl Landry, and Aaron Brooks to Phoenix

The Suns would be taking on an extra $4 mil+ in salary. It doesn't make basketball or financial sense.

Next we'll hear that the second rounder included was actually ours going to Cleveland.
