While I'm sad to see Shaq go as he the best center we ever had in Phoenix, I'm glad this trade went down. Management has finally come to the realization that they need to rebuild. So many fans in Phoenix are fooled into thinking we are contenders, or are just content to have a fun high scoring team. Our window is closed, and if we pretend it isn't we'll be rebuilding for a decade rather than a few years. I expect more moves tomorrow.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Amare moved tomorrow. The guy on Realgm is vaguely eluding to that Amare will be moved and he seems to be pointing toward Chicago. Could Amare to Chicago be back on. Noah (Shaq's replacement), Tyrus Thomas, filler and the #16 could work or maybe we get Deng instead of Thomas. We could then draft Mullens with one of those pics and send him to OKC for the previously discussed package and still draft who we want with the #14 or the #16.

With the #25 we could get a late round guy that we want and we'll have 3 second rounders to play with if we are in fact getting Cleveland's. Who knows what else could come. Nash?

Precisely. That is what is so comical about this move. Because buyouts still count against the cap, the Suns can't make any basketball related move until next year anyway.

The only thing this deal accomplished was make the Suns 2010 draft pick that much more valuable.

Absolutely terrible trade. I'm done defending Sarver and Kerr. If you want to clear up cap space, that's fine, but you do that by letting Shaq's contract expire and field a competitive team next year. We should've at least got JJ Hickson or a first round; any competent GM would've done so.

No way Cleveland trades their 2011 as they might be LeBron-less at that point.

Right I realize that- I wouldve been fine if it was lottery protected in 2011 and then the Suns get it in 2012. Just get SOMETHING for a guy who made an All NBA team last year other than just financial relief.

The Suns are getting serious cap relief from this deal. Wallace's career is over. Pavlovic will be bought out.

They are getting relief but what are they going to do with it?

They may sign a couple of vet. min. contracts and build with their draft picks. Whoopty freakin doo!

In a van...down by the river.
The only thing I am disappointed with is that we couldn't get #30. Other than that I don't understand what everyone is so upset about.
A) We knew this was going to happen.
B) Shaq would have been long gone after this season anyways.
C) We weren't going to get a lot of value for a guy who is owed $21 million and is old.
Just got home from work. Read thru most of this thread.
I pretty much agree with you Bink......this is no surprise.
SUNS should have gotten a better pick from the second best team in the East though.
I'm going to miss Shaq....he did what he was brought in here to do(bring rebounding,low-post scoring, attitude and some toughness) good luck to him in Cleveland.
The question now is, are we going to stand pat with the other aging, overpaid face of the franchise?
I sure hope these rumours of swapping picks & getting our '10 pick back w/OKC come to fruition

.
The SUNS had to make this move for financial reasons and basketball reasons....I just hope they have the vision to continue to turn this team upside down and empty out the last of the former regime and start over.
In other words...they'd better not be done cutting ties this summer.

Soo,, when Kerr talks about how this move gives the Suns FLEXIBILITY.. what are the odds that a reporter has the common sense to ask with Shaq's deal expiring this year anyway, what kind of flexiblity he is referring to?

Again I have said this before, but all I really want is for Bob Sarver to stand up at the podium and say:

"I needed money to put in my bank account it is getting kind of low and I HAVE A FAMILY TO FEED MAN...."

Then I would know where everyone stood... I just can't stand spin and hearing Kerr spin this tommorrow like this is part of a grand plan...

what a JOKE the Suns Organization has become, its pretty sad

Once the RJ trade went down yesterday everyone should have realized this was coming. In this climate cash savings is as valuable than incoming talent. Just wish we were the Lakers and Spurs side of things intead of the Bucks and Grizzlies.

The OKC deal better be done. If not, the Suns just increased the value of the asset they are trying to trade to get. They would not be that stupid, would they?

Lemme get this straight in my head ...

I'm surprised the Suns didn't hold out for the 1st round pick. C'mon 1st round pick = $$$$ I would think the Suns had the leverage in negotiations. Because no matter what happens with Cleveland, everyone will be seeing how Cleveland needs to improve their team to win the championship. They could be 45-0 at the trade deadline next year and people will still be complaining. Maybe Cleveland had a better offer on the table?

Nash contract this year is a team option - not a player option. Not sure if that makes a difference if he stays or not.

If the Suns terminate Nash's contract. Hey, that could make us players in 2009 free agency? Millsap (restricted), Bynum (restricted), Boozer, Okur, Artest, Odom? Kobe (restricted)? haha

Sorry, grasping at straws. This trade makes no sense to me.

At least it would be something different than staying pat and expecting a different result, no?

So, this is the way it is in the league. The pathetic loser teams make the elite teams better by getting nothing in return.

Memphis, Milwaukee and Phoenix= losers

Lakers, Spurs, Cavs= winners

Yeah i agree. It's not like we were dealing with a crappy team within our conference that'd be extra reluctant to give up a future 1st.......Kerr definately got shafted for only getting #46 from the Eastern conference champion runner-up:rolleyes:. Thats the only brutal part of this trade IMO.

The Suns probably said no on the first round pick. In this draft the #30 pick probably has negative value as you have to pay for what's likely going to be a non-NBA player for three years guaranteed. They could trade back up there rather easily if they like someone.

Not getting Hickson pisses me off but Cleveland has all the leverage in this so I'm not surprised.

How exactly does this trade help with rebuilding? The Suns don't own their own draft pick next year. In fact, why would Oklahoma trade it now? The Suns had to get their pick back before making this trade.

This is just terrible mismanagement on the part of the Suns.

You make a solid point that I didn't think about. We better hope that OKC really likes Mullens or whoever at #14. Hopefully the deal was agreed to already or we could have screwed ourselves bad.

The Cavs are most definitely not winners. In fact, Danny Ferry has made some pretty stupid personnel moves. Luckily for him, Steve Kerr is approaching Chris Wallace levels of incompetence.
