I hope the Suns can keep him for cheap, but if not, that's okay. He's lost almost as many games with his defense as he has won with his offense. With Dudley and Dragic having emerged as deep threats, Frye's gimmick isn't all that useful anymore anyway. Also, his basketball IQ seems exceptionally low to me.

the guy thinks he's bringing this team toughness when fouling hard,
but in reality he either got beat or out muscled and is fouling to make up for his lack of D.
we need to get rid of the softness, he can opt out and im fine if we dont resign him.

3 mil sign is max. Nothing more. Don't blame the guy for wanting a longer term contract, he's still young but only adds one dimension. If only he would go on the inside and play his size - being a soft perimeter 6'11 - we have the perimeter 3'ers, we don't need a pf on the outside chucking 3's. I'd still would keep him, but nothing more than 3 mil

I would like to keep him, because he spreads the floor well and is a very good 3pt shooter, but him getting minutes will take some away from Clark. So Im torn between this one...

So much for the whole "I want to finish my career in Phoenix" and "we are adding Frye for the long haul" talk. Of course that may still happen, but the Suns will have to pay up sooner that they probably expected.

He just wants to make more than the minimum, I wouldn't blame him, and the Suns just had to have expected this. Are you guys seriously surprised by this?

I guess him putting up better scoring numbers by knocking down wide open three's has kinda gone to his head. I dont mind having Frye back for more money, I just hope Kerr doesnt lose his head and give him a Boris Diaw type contract.

Meh, this is bad news. He is a backup PF, hopefully he realizes that but somehow I doubt it and he will get the full MLE from some team which we shouldn't pay him, especially not before the new CBA comes into place.

I'd be fine with a flat 3-4M$ per year for Frye but nothing more.

Completely agree. I really would prefer we don't bring Frye back next season. As has been mentioned, he is extremely one dimensional and if I am going to have a one dimensional big man I don't want that one dimension to be the 3 ball. I can't handle soft big men anymore. They make me sick. Watching Channing get abused by bigger forwards/centers, and watching him fail to gain position and post-up on opposing teams point guards when there is a switch defensively (have seen it WAY too many times this year) is nauseating.

That said, Channing is a great shooter and I wish him the best. I just wish him the best elsewhere.

Frye was only brought in because he was one of the only big men left on the market. We needed him to replcae Shaq, because we thought Lopez was rubbish. I like his shooting though..

Frye's best trait is to complement Nash's drives on offense. With Nash healthy early on, plus some surprise effect of Frye's shots, it worked well in the start of the season. But the team's only chance of future seems to game plan around Amare while reducing Nash's over-dribbling, thus making Frye less of importance from here onwards. He might find a home in NY though.

did you expect it? dont tell me you did because no one else did, his scoring #'s have exceeded everyone's expectations. if the suns were expecting his #'s to be above expectations why didnt they just sign him to a longer deal? because no one expected these results from him.

I think Chap is referring to "is anyone realy surprised that Frye has decided to opt out".....as you pointed out his offensive numbers this year have been better than expected.

I think it will be interesting to see how much effort the SUNS put into bringing Frye back.

Suns can't keep him anyway:(

just give Clark more minutes next season

I don't see how that solves anything.

Clark should be getting Hills minutes he is a SF imo and that is where the Suns seem to see him as well.

We are in a dilemma with Hill too. I'd love to keep him around but he will likely opt out as well. I would like him to retire here but we need playing time for Clark as well.

If Amare leaves and Frye leaves our frontcourt consists of Lopez. Amundson is also FA.

We'd have no PF and no backup C.

Why would Hill opt out? This team has a good chance for a top-four seed, and reports are that it's an extremely close-knit bunch. This is the training staff that resurrected his career, he gets to start, and he's comfortable. Given that Hill re-signed this past summer in the first place, I don't know what more he could have been hoping for. It's not like any other situation is going to match the Suns' offer of $3.3 million, a major role on a top-ten team, and terrific off-court support for a guy who will be 38 when next season starts.

Well we might be rebuilding next year especially if we lose Amare, at least we should do that if we lose Amare and tank for Harrison Barnes in my opinion so Hill might want to go to a contender.

Hill also said he wants to play until he is 40 or so. So he might want to sign another 2-3 year deal before the new CBA.

I think at this point the Suns are committed to either keeping Stoudemire or getting something of value for him. The Suns aren't rebuilding until Nash is out the door, and he's not going to be traded, in spite of your repeated conjectures.

The idea of a 50+win team deciding to tank for a possible high lottery pick 14 months down the road is absolutely absurd.

The new CBA isn't going to impair anyone's ability to pay Grant Hill $3 million per season. Not even Phoenix's.

Pure speculation, at this point it is unlikely Amare signs anything before at least visiting other teams and listen to their offers. Someone will pay him the full max and the Suns won't and probably shouldn't.
We won't get anything of value in a sign and trade that will keep us competitive. At the most we can hope for a couple picks , maybe a young player and an average player on a contract the other team wants to ditch.

Without Amare we are obviously no 50+ win team.

Yes it is because salaries are going to go down most likely. So teams won't offer Hill, what he could get possibly still get this year from someone.

Do you mean his max? I'm still skeptical than anyone will offer that. $20 million per year is huge.

We won't get anything of value in a sign and trade that will keep us competitive.

Depends on what you mean by "competitive." There are lots of sign-and-trade scenarios that would bring back enough talent for the Suns to play .500 or so, maybe a bit better if Lopez continues to develop.

Now, you will say, there's no point being an old team that plays .500, might as well blow it up completely. And I basically agree, but we both know that the Suns' front office doesn't think that way.

Yes it is because salaries are going to go down most likely. So teams won't offer Hill, what he could get possibly still get this year from someone.

That makes no sense. If a team projects that they won't be able to pay Hill $3 million in 2012-13, they won't offer him a contract that includes that amount for that season. They can see salaries coming down as well as anyone else.

The new CBA will effect everyone, but the timing of it affects only this summer's free agent stars. Since they can get more right now than they'll ever be able to get again, they have an enormous incentive to engineer that one last big score. No team wants to give those dinosaur contracts out, but they know that they have to if they want the player.

For smaller-salaried players, teams can plan for the future more rationally. For example, Dudley can be extended this summer, and hopefully the Suns recognize his value. But everyone can see the new CBA coming, so the amount that they work out for him will already be taking those reductions into account. (And if the Suns and Dudley's agent can't agree on what the future holds, they'll wait for the lockout.)

Most likely Amare will chose Miami if he leaves us. Their fans seem to be 100% sure that they will be willing to offer the full max to Wade plus either Bosh or Amare. They would still have enough cap room to offer a near max contract so someone else.

What could we hope for from Miami in a sign and trade? Nothing really future picks or maybe Beasley.

Nothing that keeps us competitive.

The other options for Amare are probably New Jersey and Chicago and those teams won't offer us much in return in a sign and trade either.

Even Houston who has a great amount of assets to offer in a sign and trade won't keep us competitive.
