I'm thinking of a few times when he didn't come back to the ball aggressively, and allowed a DB to beat him to it.
There have been those moments but some of that should be positional coaching. I think he had an idea of the physical game in the NFL and it has turned out to be much more. Between that, how he is used, and Kyler's lack of timing, Marv has had a lot to adjust to. I see no reason why he can't and in some ways, you can see his growth in the season.

I really hope he gets it, or the light comes on soon, but chances are he'll never be much more than a serviceable WR. If history has any say about it.

There are zero father and son combos - as players - in the NFL HOF.

I personally wish we had traded down and still got a top WR but got some other players as well. Meh.

Time will tell.

You wanted Odunze and you were loud about it… until he came out and has stunk worse than Harrison. Now you wish we just got “top WR”. Why change course? I mean, that’s a rhetorical question because of course the reason is you’d have to admit the guy you loudly crowed about has sucked and God forbid anyone ever admit they’re wrong about something.

That's who I wanted, but every decision is not about me. I have no idea who the Cardinals would have drafted had we traded down. Was Odunze their second best WR? Third? Who knows.

Surprise surprise - Bears fans are complaining about Odunze's season and blaming the Bears for not knowing how to use him better. Even his dad took a shot at the team recently.

Watching Puka Nacua tonight, and he is what I expected from Marvin Harrison Jr. Hard to watch. “Generational talents” shouldn’t need a year to develop. Maybe Harrison’s light goes on next year, but I am not counting on it.

It’s a good thing there’s a wide spectrum between a good draft pick and hall of famer.

I’m fine if Charmin makes five pro bowls, two first- or second-team all pros, and gets to a third contract with the Cards.

With the way he is playing, I don’t anticipate him making a single Pro Bowl. He has a long list of better receivers ahead of him in the NFC to catch up to. Did you see Puka Nacua play tonight? Or Justin Jefferson last week? MHJ is not even the best player in this WR class. Look at Nabers, Thomas and Mcconkey.

It’s wild that McConkey looks better than Harrison. That kid gets open and fights for every yard.

Harrison gives me DeAndre Ayton vibes. Game always came too easily for him, put up gawdy stats, thinks his ish doesn’t stink (slipping everything pre-draft, Jersey stuff) and flashes his natural gifts every now and again to titillate, but grew up so privileged by natural talent, that he never learned what it truly meant to work like a dog to be the best and is soft at heart because of it.

There’s just so little dawg in his game.

Both the same issue IMO. I still like Odunze, but both he and Marv have had poor QB play. Both also asked to do most of their work downfield with QB's that suck downfield.

That's not to say both don't have things to work on as all rookies do, but both are far better than their stats say.

Puka Nacua is playing with one of the best QB's in the league. That's really most of the difference.

Marv has made some elite catches and plays. Both TD's vs the Rams and the diving TD vs Miami spring to mind.

Marv is going to be great, the only question for me is will we have a QB that can make the most of him.

The "generational talent" phrase getting thrown around on this board is exhausting.

I would hate for you to look at Larry's stats his rookie season and be even more disappointed.

Would love to see Sr Harrison also go this route.

"Best QBs in the League"

Dude has a offensive genius calling plays and orchestrating the offense. Without him Stafford would have ended his career as Philip Rivers.

I agree that McVay has helped Stafford elevate his career. You also have to agree that McVay hand picking him as a significantly better option than Goff is a pretty glowing endorsement for his capabilities. Stafford is a really good QB.

Lots of unfounded speculation going on about Marvin's character and desire with zero basis.

I know a person on the Cards staff. There are zero problems with his work ethic and effort, or lack thereof.
But many of you are right. He's never going to make it. Cards should do like they did with Rosen. Draft his replacement and cut him in the off season:doi:.

We watch games. We see the effort or lack thereof peppered throughout the season, which is troubling to a lot of people.

No one’s ever said he’s never going to make it. Stop acting so OSU butt-hurt every time someone raises criticism of one of your beloved players.

Do you feel that DeAndre Ayton, the athlete you are saying MHJ reminds you of, "made it"?

Todd Haley's lasting impression on the Arizona Cardinals could be his constant yelling on the practice field, or the infamous verbal battle he had with Anquan Boldin at the end of the NFC Championship game, or the close relationship he formed with quarterback Kurt Warner.

But long-term, it's probably the phrase "One-trick pony."

That's what he called wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who had already made a Pro Bowl (and then a second in coach Ken Whisenhunt/Haley's second season). Fitzgerald's game was about catching and falling, in Haley's opinion. Haley wanted him to break tackles, to get yards after the catch, to become a downfield threat he hadn't yet become.

Larry Fitzgerald wasn't the perfect player and didn't have that dog in him either but between Boldin and Todd Haley, he developed. It's no unreasonable to think MHJ can't as well.

The Larry example is why I still hold out hope that Marv can be great and not just “good enough.” Can players get that edge if it’s not something that’s seemingly there from the get go? Yes. I just think it’s a rare thing to happen.

I think he’s an empty stat guy who makes very little impact on the court.
That doesn't answer my question. You compared MHJ to Ayton but then said you never said MHJ wouldn't make it. I personally don't think Ayton "made it" in the NBA which is why I feel it is not unreasonable to infer that when comparing MHJ to Ayton, you don't think MHJ will make it.

Ayton made it to a second contract which was a MAX CONTRACT. He made it through his first five years. It doesn’t mean he didn’t completely underwhelm at the same time.

But it’s not necessarily a one to one comparison. I said Harrison gives me Ayton VIBES. Not that they are the same exact type of player with hardened outcomes set in stone.

I struggle because MHJ is on pace to outproduce Fitzgerald's rookie season stats in a pretty low volume passing offense and people are treating him like he is a bust. Are there things he will need to work on in the off-season? Absolutely. Has he made improvements already in this season? I would argue that his offensive PI is an example of being more aggressive and protecting his QB. I don't feel like I have seen a focus drop in a while.

I just struggle to see how MHJ is part of the problem like I feel people are saying.
