I actually heard something similar from a friend of mine who works in sports journalism and his dad is a professional sports agent. He seemed to think that this trade, or something very similar was going to go down last night.

Here's an idea from ESPN Forum...

Bulls get Kobe

Lakers get Marion, Ty Thomas and Gordon

Suns get Sefalosha, Noah, Deng, and Turiaff

I'd add Suns and Bulls 2nd round picks in 08 to Lakers.

bulls aren't giving up deng. if they do, kobe won't go there.

i still think the lakers will have a hard time getting more value than marion + barbosa + atl pick. shoot, we could throw in tucker or straw too, but our lineup would be fantasmic. all the lakers are getting from the bulls is thomas, gordon, noc and filler. gordon is a barbosa doppelganger but wants 2x money as barbosa, noc is $8M/year for a bench guy, and thomas is a total unknown right now.

they should take the 4x all-star in his prime + ben gordon at half price (barbs). i mean they could luck out with a top lotto pick on top of it.

meanwhile, we have a team full of hall-of-famers and torch everyone. nash, kobe, hill, boris, amare. then you get raja off the bench. that's enough for at least one title.

i think tyrus thomas is good, he's a bigger marion....just not as good, i dont approve of this possible trade. kwame has the worst hands in the league.
I agree. a couple of scouts were claiming Tryus Thomas in his draft class as the next Amare Stoudemire, "only difference is that Tryus liked to play defense".

Tryus Thomas was pretty good on the boards playing alongside "Big Baby" Glen Davis.
Comparisons for Thomas range from a more energetic version of fellow LSU alum Stromile Swift to Phoenix Suns all-star Amare Stoudemire. While his offensive repertoire is limited, Thomas more than makes up for it in pure athleticism. Scoring most of his baskets on offensive rebounds and in transition, Thomas averaged 12.5 points per game while shooting over 60 percent from the floor last season. In addition, Thomas averaged over nine rebounds and three blocks per game, including 14 double-doubles and 13 games with four or more blocks.

the more i think about the deal (sans hawks pick), the more i like it. more depth. some legit backup pg play. more athleticism (thomas, sefolosha, and duhon are all pretty good athletes). we would go a legit 9 deep (if coach d would actually do it).

nash
bell
hill
tyrus
amare
barbs
sefolosha
diaw
duhon

and that second group would actually backup just about each position:

pg: duhon
sg: barbs
sf: sefolosha
pf/c: diaw

that's actually pretty impressive. and i don't think we'd slow down either while also likely becoming better defensively.

If the Lakers would be willing to take Marion and Gordon as the main pieces back, you'd think they'd take Marion, Barbosa and Atl pick for Kobe.

Other boards are saying that a Chicago station is reporting a trade that has a 90% chance of happening in the next 48 hours. Chi gets Kobe, Lakers get Kirk and Ron Artest, Sac gets ???.

It seems like the longer this goes on, the Lakers are willing to take less. Kerr needs to drop the hammer and give the Lakers an offer they can't refuse. Marion, Barbosa, ATL pick and whatever the hell they want. Just keep Amare, Nash, and Hill (that'd be messed up if they shipped him).

Wow! RonRon as a Laker? That would be terrible! There would be absolutely NO ONE there to help keep him grounded AND he would likely screw up Bynum's future chances at anything by being a terrible influence (as well as some of the other LAL young'ns).

At any rate, I sure do hope that the Suns get in on this mix somehow in order to dump Marion's sorry ass. Let Kobe go to CHI, just get me Tyrus Thomas!!!!

BS rumor. There is no way that the lakers bring in Artest without Kobe there. They had a chance to get him and weren't able to...with Kobe in place. Lakers do that trade and LA burns to the ground. Plus, it would mean that Sac essentially gets Gordon, Thomas and someone else I forgot who, for Artest. No way they get all that for Ron.

Totally bogus rumor.

There was also a thing where Sac gets kwame, walton and 1st rd. pick for Artest.

If this trade got even close to going through I would punch Steve Kerr as hard as i could right in the baby-maker.

Seriously?

To keep my own sanity, I'm going to write off any Suns fan wanting to move Marion and not get someone like Kobe (which won't happen anyway) in return as drunk.

Whatever. This year, Thomas will rival Dwight Howard statistically. Thomas plus spare parts and filler (ie. Nocioni, PJBrown (s&t), Sefalosha) would be a major coup....

Did you see the Lakers last night?

You seriously would WANT Kobe?

No thanks.

He is unhappy and trying to force Dr. Buss' hand and trade him. Guaranteed he gets traded his level of play will go up. He had like 30 pts anyway what's there not to like about him last night.

I think he had 39. Shot 26 FT's or something.

I think that is a little overboard. I don't see Thomas scoring 18/14/3.
