Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports the Green Bay Packers agreed to terms on a two-year deal worth $5.2 million with free-agent LB Brandon Chillar (Rams) Wednesday, March 19.

Of the ineptness of the Cards front office. The team doesn't have the money to sign a FA, simply because they couldn't close the Fitzgerald deal. It's sad.

I would imagine that the Cards did offer him money and said they'd sign him for X amount once the deal is done because they do know their numbers now. Would have been nice to have him, but it looks like he probably got a better offer from the Packers than what the Cards offered him.

What's sad, is that some here don't realize that this delay has nothing to do with the FO or Fitz. It's merely the time consuming due diligence of lawyers at league head office going over every clause before the final stamp of approval. And, clearly the Green Bay offer was superior, otherwise Chillar would have waited a few days more.

I think I am going to have to agree with this. I dont think we were offering more then 2 Mill a season. I think GB beat us by 500K per season.

Chillar said when he visited here that his decision was going to come down to $. I don't think the Fitz situation had anything to do with it. GB just offered more money.

Some of us react like we just lost out on Lance Briggs...Chill out!! If they want to find someone of similar quality as you said they are out there, this is far from the end of the world.

Explain how a 4 year contract takes weeks for the head office to approve but FA's sign 70, 80, & 90 million dollar FA deals within hours of Midnight.

I don't buy this argument at all.

And to respond to the last sentence..... My guess is that the John Clayton story and the statements Chillar made about waiting for the Cards to make an offer caused the Packers to (smartly) put a deadline on their offer. It's awfully hard to pass up that kind of money if the team you want can't even get their duck in a row to make a counter offer.

I do agree with this to a point. My issue is that now we will have to address it earlier in the draft than we would have if we signed him.

We will see. LB is one of the few positions where there are some decent vets who can contribute out there still. I personally have a gut feeling that when Fitz's deal gets finalized we will bring in Haggans from the Steelers, or if we are really lucky, Colvin. Either one of these would let us put off drafting this position for another year when Berry leaves.

Tony Grossi, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports free-agent LB Clark Haggans (Steelers) visited the Cleveland Browns Tuesday, March 18. He will meet with team officials and coaches Wednesday, March 19.

Only the St. Louis newspaper has reported this so far. It's not on the Packers' site.

I would've liked signing him. Mostly because I like us to get who the coaches want. But, I'm not going to jump off a cliff if we don't.
