Jeff Van Gundy. The rumors about Fizdale's relationship with players reminds me of Hornacek. I think I would prefer Triano to Fiz. I still would be interested in Messina.

I do not get Fizdale AT ALL.

And I'd be pretty stoked with JVG, but there's no way he comes out of a decade of retirement to come into as shaky a FO situation as we have.

If we were guaranteed the first pick and Ayton, I could see our opening being much more enticing to people, but without that, there's just too many question marks for someone legit to come here... unless the bank was literally broken open for them... and they were given some kind of FO power.

Fizdale, Vogel, Triano, and then Clifford in that order. Clifford would be a bad hire. He's dealing with some health issues that would almost necessitate a top assistant that would be ready to step up and fill in for him. Read about why he missed half of the season with the Hornets this year. I've read a few different reports, one that is was sleep deprivation, another had to deal with stents he had placed in his chest due to chest pains he suffered a few years prior, and another had to deal with migraines. It's questionable what his real issues are but they should not hire someone who has medical issues that could potentially keep him off of the bench in his first year.

Here is one story about him taking time away from the Hornets earlier in the season.

What has Fizzle or Triano ever done to be considered anything but underwhelming hires... at best?

I don't want to see Triano hired either but I answered the question that was posed, who would you prefer out of Vogel, Clifford, Triano, and Fizdale.

Fizdale had a good 1st year in Memphis with a team he did have to battle with to get them playing an uptempo style but he got them to the playoffs. He also was a highly regarded assistant to Spoelstra in Miami. So I'd take him over the other 3 pretty easily.

Highly regarded asst to... Spoelstra? Big coaching tree there. And then a whopping 43 wins and first round loss followed up by then getting isn-canned after only 25 games the next season after apparently back-stabbing one of the most well-liked players in the league.

Great. He may be better than the other 3, but that still doesn't change the fact that so far, he's pretty much a turd as a head coaching candidate. The fact that this guy is even on our radar is pathetic to me and speaks to the level of coach a) we're willing to try and get and b) is willing to come here.

I wonder if Triano could bring Nash in as an assistant.

Embiid is bringing the center position back. I sure hope we get Ayton instead of Doncic.

With Budenholzer out of the running, I'm leaning towards Igor Kokoskov as my top pick. Seems to be beloved by former players; a tactician. He coached Slovenia to a surprising Eurobasket Championship last summer. He's an assistant for the impressive Utah Jazz right now, and he has also been a part of the 7 seconds or less Suns (great offense; tail end, but still...) and the 2004 champion Pistons (great defense).

But BC won't like him because he is inexperienced as an NBA head coach. So.

Now that Bud is out of the running, I changed my poll selection to Other as in Kokoskov.

alongside Anthony Davis.

I think a lot of people are prisoner of the moment looking how to build this team with "interchangeable" parts trying to chase what I believe to be an unchaseable model with GS. Even Houston has a very good big man who's excellent on D, along with a legit PG and lights out SG/PG as well.

When you're at the bottom, you have to look to what's coming NEXT in the league to try and build your team. Chasing today's trend will just leave the team stuck in the past when it's their time to rise, IMO.

I agree with this. We can't be thinking about competing against the Warriors or Rockets. It will be the Sixers that we have to contend with.

And the Pelicans... and the Jazz... and the Celtics... maybe even Minnesota. All those teams have long, athletes and 4 of the 5 have big time big men in the middle.

TJ Warren's tweets (on the head coaching search?)

When you look at TJ's tweets, you have to wonder.

April 14 "Don't make the mistake of making the same mistake"
April 14 "Speak from experience"
April 15 "Knowledge from dudes who did not contribute to none of this here"
April 16 "THE REAL IS BACK"
April 20 "Choose wisely"
April 20 "1985"
April 20 "Brackets"

Looks to me like that is TJ not giving a vote of confidence for Triano, asking for an experienced head coach, asking for someone from the outside, liking the Bud possibility, asking for a wise choice, and potentially stumping for ? Jay Wright (?). (If you google 1985 brackets, you get Villanova).

Hmm. Cryptic. But if that is what he meant, I agree with all of it.

Jay Wright isn’t just a pipe dream... I think it’s flat out fantasy.

Dude is becoming a legend at Nova, has massive success and is going to leave all that behind to work for an owner with an awful reputation and a GM who’s overseen a team that’s been a laughingstock the last couple years AND has had player issues in the press?

Not to mention he’d be coming in for a GM that is likely on his last legs and if he’s gonzo, then a new guy comes in who prob wants his own people.

There’s no way a guy that accomplished EVER calls either one of those guys “boss.” And if any of you had his level success, do you really think you would either? If he’s coming to the NBA, he’d be the belle of the ball and have his option for any job opening.

Fizdale would be a decent hire. Hes actually very well liked around the league and not a turd as a coach, as you say.
