6. Was not asked about Jeff Van Gundy but on his own injected Van Gundy's name saying that he is a great coach and will likely "land somewhere" as a coach. He noted his ability to work with young players in USA Basketball.

Man, I hope that means that they've made some sort of preliminary inquiry to Van Gundy's camp. Budenholzer is intriguing, but I'd still prefer Van Gundy.

Budenholzer interview Monday and Tuesday. Fizdale today. Triano tomorrow. Timing leads me to believe coaching search could be completed within week to 10 days if not sooner

If possible hiring Budenholzer is a no-brainer, although I'm wondering why he would prefer the Suns over the Hawks.

He is the best commodity among available head coach candidates, and this season is another proof of his coaching abilities. The Hawks always showed a reasonable team play and always did put up a fight. After having even less talent that the Suns, they got a better record and were able to win 3 games even after shutting down Schröder.

I think he mostly wants out because the new GM wants to pick his own coach. And as for having less talent than the Suns and still winning more games, does it really count as talent if they aren't playing?

As I mentioned, even without Schröder and Bazemore they did win 3 games of the last 11 when their team consisted of Taurean Prince, Dedmon and a bunch of G-league players.

This floated through my mind as well.

Maybe the Hawks want to be bad for awhile and rebuild the team. If so, paying Bud top dollar doesn't help the situation.

There is speculation that he was bumping heads with the owner over winning games. There has been grumblings about a dispute between an owner and a head coach about trying too hard to win late in the season when they wanted a better pick. Reading between the lines you will see that the Hawks won two close games against both the Wizards and the Celtics at the end of the season when Atlanta was trying to position themselves for a better pick.

I attempted to add a vote for Bud, but I couldn't get it to do that.

I think you have to choose to "Change Your Vote" in order to add one for Bud. It worked for me anyway (change option is shaded out in blue on my browser, YMMV).

Thanks for the tip. I have changed my vote. Yeah in Chrome all you see is a purple bar until you hover over it (bottom right) and then you can change your vote.

There is an article from Woj going around about an owner who berated his coach for winning "meaningless" games when they should have been tanking. Both the Hawks and Grizzles fit the description of the team at that time. I'll have to find it. I could see the Hawks owner doing that instead of the Grizzlies owner because the Grizz had an interim head coach at that time. If it's the Hawks owner who did that it answers why Budenholzer wants out.

Budenholzer would provide stability at coaching for the Suns for the next 10+ years. We won’t have to worry about needing another HC or needing to upgrade or whatever for quite sometime.

I’m watching the playoffs and man, so many of the 1st round series is showing how important coaching is. Boston is an easy example with the amount of guys they have injured and still out there kicking the Bucks butt.

This guy was the best HC of all time’s right hand man for like 12+ years. Even coaches that have worked under Bud have gone to have nice career starts with other teams (Snyder, Atkinson).

This is a no brainer hire and almost too good to be true. But because of that, I don’t understand how Robert Sarver doesn’t royally screw this up.

Along with the reasons others already replied to you with, Budenholzer is from Arizona. Born & raised in Holbrook, Arizona. His father was a legendary high school coach here.

Here is something to think about.

Perhaps Triano is the last coaching candidate to be interviewed as other candidates may have already been interviewed by telephone.

Perhaps the announcement of a new head coach will be coming sooner than we think.

Something to consider: Ryan McDonough told me couple months ago interviews could be done by phone. So it's possible he's already interviewed guys like Clifford, Vogel, etc. It would make some sense that Triano is last formal in-person interview but I don't know that for a fact

Maybe the Suns turn to Borrego. Pops gives him a lot of accolades.

Bordow throws out another idea.

Here's a question: If Pelicans sweep Blazers, would Portland dump Stotts and would he become candidate here. He and Triano are very tight. Could see Jay staying on in that situation

If Bud is your first choice you quit interviewing other candidates and hire him. This interview process is for the birds.
