Well, i am not a guy who knows alot about coaching, i do not watch college football and i have only follow the nfl the way i do for a few years, before that it was just casual watching and cardinals football.

with that being said between analysts opinions and mostly based of asfners opinions and lastly theyr press conferences my top choices are sherman and chow, with chow taking the lead.

Shermans main knock seems to be his GM stuff and a few other things but overall he sounds to be a good coach. his press conference was very confident, salivating for the job, wants to bury himself in film..the type of guy we need.

Chow has the lack of NFL experience and age, age I dont care as alot of guys are alot older. NFL experience is a so-so thing considering how long he has been in football and how many people he knows throughout football will really help in that area. The way his offensive thinking is described make me really want him, the way people say how imaginative he is, like a 2004 pendergast but on offence and consistant. Then we come to his presser, Rod said he wants someone with a plan, I think this is the guy. His description of what he envisions for D made me smile, I believe that is the best answer he could have given. Then his ongoing of bringing out the skill in every player. This means he will gameplan for Q which I believe when done right already fixes our offense 10x. then also hitting pope where you should and having mr fitz etc etc etc...the type of guy we need.

I do not know much about grimm but I would like to stay away from all pittsburgh coaches, especially since they both want pittsburghs job. Ron rivera has alot of questions marks that turn me away and cam/jim didnt even talk about it so i really have no input on them.

I choose chow."

Also an idea, if he is in good with the bidwills and wants to make truly great coaching hires and build a staff how it is supposed to be maybe the bidwills will want to do the same and open the wallet? our coaching staff will need true depth to win.

From the sound of these press conferences, I believe they've made it clear to the candidates that their coaching staff is 100% up to them. I don't know, it just doesn't sound like they feel pressured to keep the coaches we've kept under contract.

At least, I hope that is the case.

Did anyone else notice that Chow mentioned Pope three times in his interview?

I hope he gets mentioned more than 3 times during the passing game next season. There is no reason for Pope not to go to the Pro Bowl every season, he is a physical freak and a match up problem for every team in the league. Get him the ball!!!

Yeah, I think Chow is turned on thinking about this offense and I promise you Pope's name would be called a hell of a lot more.

I think Pope henceforth shall be down as "6'8" Tight End."

Listening to that link, if Chow comes in we are getting a different D.C. He says "we need to get a good defensive coordinator" about 8 minutes in it.

How about Steve Sakisian, USC's QB coach as the OC for Chow?

He apparently is on the Raider's list for head coach -- but if he doesnt get it......

Bill Bidwill likes him.

Matt likes him.

Graves likes his Chicago connection in Rivera, but Graves is a party guy.

Chow gets named HC within the next 48 hours.

The "Bill Bidwill likes him" comment stemmed from what some columnist claimed to be true; so take it for what it's worth.

One other guy likes him - Adrian Wilson (who was at NC State when Norm was there). A-Dub said in an interview with local media that he didn't need to interview Chow, and when asked: "Is that because you already know you want him to be here?" Wilson replied: "Oh yeah!"

I liked Chow's analysis of modern day defenses and what he thought was needed - i.e. you have to stop the run and, to accomplish this, most defenses need to bring that 8th guy up. Which means you'd better have 2 terrific corners to cover one on one (As soon as you have to give them safety support, you're in trouble).

We may be reading too much into the "we have to hire a DC who..." quote, because presumably all retained assistant coaches would have to survive an interview with the new guy and perhaps Norm puts Clancy in the "new DC" category.

I heard Whizenhunt's, Chow's and Sherman's pressers and have seen enough of Clancy P, but didn't hear Rivera or Cameron so its hard to compare personalities.

But based on the little I've heard so far, my gut favors Chow. He sounds like a secure, very bright, straight-forward, human kind of guy who understands what it will take to get the job done and will move in the straightest line possible to go out and do it.

I don't think this is an easy decision.

Rivera will be a more popular choice. He also fits the mold of the type that has been successful lately.....Payton, Mangini, Mora Jr. (well, in year one), Nolan, Lewis, etc. Young, hungry, relates well to the players.

Sherman is a more "proven" commodity. Not a sexy hire, but maybe the safest. Not a lot of "yee-has", but not a lot of "oh nos" either.

Chow will have a LOT of doubters. Even within the team. Yes, Wilson and Leinart will help a lot. But, it will take more than their words to get their full confidence. Still think he's a boom or bust choice. I don't see them stringing a bunch of mediocre seasons together with him at the helm. It'll either be horrendous or stupendous IMO. Hiring Chow will take guts, because the slings and barbs will come.

Mr Bidwill could care less about a popular choice or proven commodity. He marches to his on beat.

I disagree. Denny Green was the popular choice, and proven commodity.

All the more reason to hope they try something new this time. With Chow, it's feast or famine. Cards fans have been through a few famines before.

Hey, I don't mind trying new things. Hell, at this point, I hope for something new.
