I disagree. Denny Green was the popular choice, and proven commodity.

The operative word here is "WAS"! He even sounded good to me. Why are so many Coaches fat, large, or big (take your choice)? Why are there not more like Lou Holtz who is small and skinny? A skinny coach would make us more diverse.

Yeah, I think Chow is turned on thinking about this offense and I promise you Pope's name would be called a hell of a lot more.

Not sure that's true, USC traditionally doesn't use the TE a lot and didn't under Chow either. And while Pope is physically imposing, he dropped about half the balls thrown to him this year in games I watched. I think he'll be a bigger part of the offense for sure but he's got to block better and catch better to be a featured guy on offense.

With Q and Fitz there's not much reason to feature a TE who drops teh ball that much. Gotta improve his hands.

He will also have to make good assistant hires and run the team like he knows what he's doing. I don't think there will be an outright revolt like Green had. But, if they don't buy in 100% to what he's selling he's got an uphill battle. Edge, Wilson and Leinart are a great start for him, but he has to seal the deal by his performance.

Green did seem or actually pulled the trigger on people he did not like for whatever reason. Problem was he never thought through the results of these moves. After a lot of moves like this you start to lose command of your troops. Made him seem like a guy without a plan who operated on the spur of the moment. Remember all his great words about McCown before he even got here? Made him seem like the next Joe Montana. Turned out to be the next Joe Montoya.

Hey, I don't mind trying new things. Hell, at this point, I hope for something new.

I agree wholeheartedly. With Chow, the worst thing that could happen is it blows up in our faces--aka business as usual for the Cards. If he makes it big, which I believe he would, the curse is lifted and playoffs-bound, baby!

The following will be my mantra posted as a daily reminder.

1. Don't hire a new guy solely to overcome the old guy's weaknesses. Otherwise you'll overlook a whole bunch of other factors vital to winning.

2. Hire the person and not the resume.

3. Sole overriding criteria has to be: "Which guy's complete set of (both strong and weaker) qualities puts us in the best position to win?"

In other words:

A. Just because DG may have had ego problems and was prone to making poor impulsive decisions shouldn't mean that someone who doesn't have ego problems or isn't impulsive is necessarily the right coach. There are too many other factors that go into coaching. Going back and forth between a small list of weaknesses (i.e. Plan vs. No Plan. Big vs. Small Ego etc.) just perpetuates the losing pendulem.

B. Just because a coaching candidate was dynamite somewhere else doesn't mean that what worked in Minnesota in the 1980's will necessarily work in Arizona in 2007. Different time. Different circumstances.

C. I'd want to know how my new HC would deal with things like (a) a long losing streak, (b) an epidemic of injuries, (c) a star player on an ego trip, (d) a slumping QB, (e) cockiness during a winning streak, (f) how to prepare in a short time frame for a Thursday game, (g) how to get your team ready for a playoff game. Things like that.

Nice Post. Your post lends me to believe that HC experience may not be a big factor. A guy that has been around 100 years in the game will undoubtedly draw the best ideas from all his experience, IF he has half a brain. Apparently Chow is intelligent. Anybody who likes Rivera falls back on the idea that he coached for Andy Reid, etc. but has nowhere near the life experience of a guy like Chow.
Again, the reason I like Chow is the fact that our offense will hit the ground running from day one. Leinart will flourish and if that is the case , so will the offense. This offense is capable of carrying this team most of the way. The fact that Chow emphisizes the need to stop the run and have corners that can cover tells me that a CB will be 1 of our main acquisitions in free agency. Although thats no secret, the fact that he wants a defense that gives HIM problems seems to make perfect sense.
All that being said, the longer our search goes on the more likely Chow is not the guy.

Yeah, but two seasons ago (with Volek and McNair) the Titans used TEs as their primary passing weapons. I think that Chow is a guy who will use whatever weapons are at his disposal, and you kind of have to like that.

If it's true that the Lions are going to cut Mike Williams, I wonder if Chow would bring him in. What a red zone matchup problem with Fitz on one side, M. Williams on the other, Q in the slot, and the 6'8" tight end.

I would support signing MW on a make-good contract even though he essentially triplicates what we have already. However, I'm sure the genius offensive mind that Chow is can derive some complicated crossing schemes, or something that would just blow the hell out of a D's mind....

True with the Titans. I guess I'm just down on Pope everytime I saw him play he dropped a pass it seemed.

Bidwill haters never change...THEY OWN THE TEAM AND ALWAYS WILL...GET OVER IT!

Well there is actually hope that when Sr. is gone the inheritence tax will force the Bidwill's to sell. It's happen to NFL franchises before. We can hope can't we?

I am thinking you must have auditioned for the "disgruntled fan" part in the movie "The Waterboy"...you could have just used your standard lines and not even had to learn a script... :)

Possbily. lol. I would love for this team to be a winner. I just refuse to buy into the hype each year and the same old NEXT YEAR, Rose Colored Glasses mentality. This team doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt until they prove it on the field.

There is alot to like about the team in terms of talent. However, I just have a problem with the owners and Rod Graves. They are like a wart that someone tries to concile but sooner or later their makeup wears off and you see the ugly truth.

I think this is the first time I have ever seen you spell Bidwill correctly. Thank you. I am no fan of the Bidwill's but it is very irritating to see the name spelled incorrectly on a continual basis.

Possibly. He's the safe choice. I really want Chow, or Cameron, but I wouldn't be too upset with Sherman.

and well we shouldn't...sherman has a very powerful background and knows his way around...he would be a good choice..all the outside candidates look good on paper....

WELL it's intentional if you had not caught on to that. You were not privvy to the inside joke and it was irritating someone else as WELL. ;)

Michael Lewis just said on NFL Live that the Cards were very impressed with Norm Chows interview and that he's the favorite
