What was shocking to me was the timing of the William Gay release. With all the hedging they are doing with Kolb, you would have thought they would have held onto their #2 CB until they re-signed Greg Toler or signed one in free agency. Now they are stuck with 2 CBs on the roster and no money to sign a #2 CB to replace Gay. It isn't that Gay isn't replaceable, it is that it will be difficult to sign a #2 CB for what we would have owed him. Chris Wells is the same. Who no the open market is going to sign for the 1.8 mil or so Wells would have cost us? Not Reggie Bush, or Mendenhall or Steven Jackson that is for sure.
I figured the Cardinals would be taking a step back on defense but I can't believe the amount of holes they purposely made by making these cuts. Before the offseason you could argue we needed to get a decent QB, upgrade the offensive line, find a cheap SILB, sign a CB to replace Toler if he left and hopefully grab an OLB. Now we have added the need for a starting CB, a starting RB and we are hoping Rashad Johnson can take over for Adrian Wilson.
Difficult to see how we intend to fill all of these holes AND field a competitive team which means we probably don't intend to do so. It wouldn't be such a big issue if we didn't give the reigns of our front office to a guy who had a part in creating this whole mess.
