Wasnt this supposed to be Skelton's turn to get heavy reps after Kolb's sideshow last week? What happens... Kolb gets more than double the opportunities, and Skelton gets his chances with a matador at left tackle.

They really, desperately want Kolb to bail them out on their boneheaded acquisition. Despite how atrocious he has looked I am pretty sure its going to be Kevin at the start of the year until the crowd boos him off the field... or he is carted off.

This was a competition only in title, and Kolb still has nearly lost the job.

Skelton did nothing with the opportunity, and Kolb led some drives. That was the bottom line.

Yup. Which was bottom line in other games. I think safe to say both will be playing reps next weeks too. With this yet undecided.

Then I guess this is a staged QB competition.

Skelton did all he could to give Kolb the keys tonight. 40% completion, 4.1 YPA, 1 INT and a little indecisiveness in the pocket.

Not sure they were planning on Young doing awful. Skelton had playing time tonight and he and the offense were horrible. Not sure how this is the coaching staff setting him up.

I was at the game and it wasn't pretty. Cardinals offense was manhandled and looked stunned to me. Beanie in only his first game but didn't run hard at all. Looked very hesitant to me which is to be expected I guess.

Wilson really playing angry on D.
Liked Fleming again and Brandon Williams looks like he can play some.
Was disappointed in the play of Carter and Eason.
PP did not have a good night.
Why is Todd Heap on this team?
Still hoping Byrd makes the team.
AJ Jefferson will be cut in my opinion.
Powell is NOT camp fodder. He should be on this team. People sitting around me at the game were asking who the hell is this guy.

I would like to have seen Skelton for a few reps, after we changed tackles.

this is a joke right? You do realize that two of his drives were killed by pefectly catchable 15 yard gains and he had the same problems with the O-line that you were giving Kolb a pass for repeatedly for weeks, right?

Sorry TJ... its clear you have a dog in this fight. You thought a guy who threw two of the worst balls I've ever seen tonight played "ok" and yet Skelton did ALL he could to give Kolb the keys?

Try and have just a TINY bit of objectivity here.

Then you don't read my comments as frequently as you think, cheese. I wasn't giving Kolb a pass. Never did. I did make mention that the line was not protecting as well for Kolb, but the intentions were not to forgive him for his transgressions.

Sorry TJ... its clear you have a dog in this fight.
Patently false. My dog is whomever is starting Week 1. Read my comments from last week or you're simply trying to manufacture BS for your agenda (which I know you're better than that)

You thought a guy who threw two of the worst balls I've ever seen tonight played "ok" and yet Skelton did ALL he could to give Kolb the keys?
Unlike you, I don't think in black-and-white or all-or-nothing, whatever terminology you prefer. I indicated he played "ok." Not "good" not "great" not "outstanding" not "terrible," but just ok. The two picks were horrendous, but should not wipe out his entire performance. Kolb was able to move the offense, especially in no huddle.

Otherwise, you and I are just arguing semantics, and that is utterly ridiculous.

As for Skelton, he started the game and didn't play well. Skelton could have very well seized the starting job tonight with a decent performance and he didn't; thus, opening the door open for Kolb to gain ground in the competition.

Try and have just a TINY bit of objectivity here.
I'm completely objective, but it appears with the Skelton excuses listed above and the narrow focus on the two INTs, I might not be the less objective here.

Truth be told, I was hoping there would be some closure tonight and Skelton would have made an overwhelming case for the starting position. Now, we're left ruminating about the competition for another week :bang:

How have they "staged" a QB competition? Maybe the reason Kolb got more reps is because Whiz gave him one last chance before he drowns..
Whiz is not the devil. I think he may he would rather see Kolb succeed due to his vested interest in him but dont we all?

Lets put it this way - say you have two women in your life; one of them is a great girl, really cool and fun to be around. The problem is that shes not nearly as smokin hot as the other one. The hot one, however, you just know is not the best match for you. What are you going to do???

Your going to give the hot one every opportunity to prove to you that she is right for you, and youll do your best to convince yourself that the ugly one is not right for you.

So say you make the ugly pick (Skelton) because shes right for you (Cardinals), you are going to make sure you invite the hot one (Kolb) over tonight for one last wild night of....................................................checkers

I dont think Whiz is evil, but even your analogy paints a picture of a very unequal playing field.

And personally... Kolb is as ugly as they come, would you really want to date a chick who Andy Reid dumped? Especially after after seeing how his previous ex-girls ended up?

No, but you seem to think Kolb is evil. Like I said in the other thread, this Qb comp was far from a slam dunk for Skelton for the reasons he showed tonight. kolb actually looked decent tonight but your blind hatred of him won't let you admit it. When Kolb had little protection in the other games, you cut him no slack. when Skelton has little protection, it's a staged competition. I'm in the boat of let the guy who wins play. However, to me, neither has won and we're in for a long year of mediocre to bad QB play, no mater who starts.

I dont think he is evil, he just hopelessly sucks. My hatred for Kolb the QB isnt blind, rather its come from watching far too much of him. He leads a 2 minute drill and suddenly he is gods gift to the offense... Skelton did it last week and "we didnt see enough of him". In between Kolb's TD drive he was giving the ball to the wrong team on probably the 2 stupidest throws we have seen from either QB all preseason.

And what a joke to claim the protection tonight was similar circumstances... when Kolb had the same line Skelton was cursed with he went in reverse. It would have been nice to see how Skelton could have done without a practice squad scrub at left tackle.

What pocket? He was being pressured before he could even finish his drop.

I'm sorry but don't call yourself objective if you can't acknowledge a problem that was well beyond his control and just downright embarassing. DJ Young made me miss Levi Brown at LT. I didn't think that would be possible.

Kolb and Skelton were mixed bags tonight. Kolb looks good in the 2 min offense but bad in everything else. Skelton had a bad INT but seemed to calm down when there wasn't a jailbreak coming right at him before he finished his drop (2 drops really hurt him as well)

Yet again if we continue to ignore the elephant in the room then the QB competition is rather meaningless

Where did anyone say Kolb was gods gift to offense? That's your extreme bias coming out. Last week Batiste was every bit as bad at RT as Young was at LT last night. Both QB's have had very poor protection but, to you, is a condemnation to Kolb and an excuse for Skelton. You can't even admit that Kolb looked better than Skelton. It was all the LT that had anything to do with it.

I think both QB's are pretty bad but at least I can admit when one plays well, as I have with Skelton too. Kolb must've stole your girlfriend , beat you up right in front of her, and ran over your dog on his way over to punching your mom in the face. Either that or I guess you're hell-bent on trying to prove everybody you are right on Kolb. You very well may be right on Kolb, but, is it really that important. I think Stewart Bradley was a horrible signing but will admit when he plays well.

The QB right now doesn't even matter with a line like that. This line is so bad Grimm should be fired at the very least.

I'm an idiot for thinking Peyton Manning actually considered playing behind that line.

Neither QB looked great.

If we ran a 2 minute drill all game, which I highly doubt, then Kolb's performance last night looked good. If Heap and Floyd catch the passes that went right thru their hands then Skelton looks a lot better.

The OL must get fixed or both will play a lot due to necessity. Grimm must go plain and simple.

Another thing that got my attention last night. Skelton's first pass is a 20-25 yard route with a terrible LT. His next is on 3rd and 11 to which Dilfer makes the comment that that is the last thing a QB wants after throwing a pick.

Kolb's is a quick hit to Fitz to get him in rhythm.

Just my .02

I think people are forgetting that Skelton was limping after a couple of those hits? It could well be they just decided to go to Kolb earlier because of that.

And if they were really trying to do what you said why did they wait to bench Young, he single handedly blew up Kolb's first series too.

I think the one good thing Dilfer said last night was Kolb's good was better than Skelton's good.

Neither was all that great and even some of their "Good" things were iffy.

The TD pass by Kolb was the exact same play as the picksix and I don't think he saw the LB on the TD either, he just threw it a split second earlier with a bit more on it and was able to fit it in.

Skelton had 2 big drops that hurt him. THe drop by Floyd was a bad throw it was high and had too much on it, should have absolutely been caught, but bad throw. The drop by Heap was very similar to Kolb's TD Skelton threw it in on a rope with a DB(LB?) coming over and nearly got it. In fact live I thought he tipped it didn't look like it on replay though. Very good throw but like Kolb a bit risky fitting it in there and on Skelton's Heap was actually open if the ball is out in front of him instead of right at him.

I would start Skelton simply because I detest turnovers from the QB and Kolb was very close to 4 last night. The 2 he had, the TD pass was pretty close, and the one to Colledge could easily have been a TO.

Speaking of Dilfer, who I think is smarter than just about any talking head out there, he all but said this coaching staff is inept. You can argue all you want, but that was a recurring theme in his commentary.

Regardless of the LT. Skelton did not get the job done last night.

Skelton is still my guy but he has to beat Kolb soundly to get the job and he did not do that this preseason.

I wonder if they told Young he was cut in the middle of the game last night. They should have.

Skelton didn't seize the opportunity, but if he hadn't thrown that horrible pick, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt behind that line. Unfortunately, he's still showing questionable decision making and sometimes forgets to step into his throws so that they sail on him. Same concerns as last year.

We all wanted to see what happened when he finally got a real off season to develop. Well, it looks like the Coaching staff did nothing.

Handing the Keys Over...

"Here you go son, try not to scratch the paint..."

CRASH!!!

"Oh no!!!!"

(Kolb backed out of the garage and into the Mercedes parked in the driveway. It's just a fender-bender, but he'll still be out 6-8 weeks)
