but this game proved in a nutshell that looking at last season IS a valid starting point in prognosticating a game, particularly this early in the season.
seattle had a better track record. we had a poor one. last year we compounded mistakes week after week. i can't remember who made the statement last week that we'd learn from our mistakes last week and undoubtedly correct them this week, but again, he/she/it was proven wrong and i was correct, this team repeats mistakes.
that's now two games, two false starts for big. he's STILL averaging 1 false start per game. that's a pace for 16. that's MORE than last year. anyone want to keep saying that's NOT a problem? oh, and he TOTALLY WHIFFED on that sack. awful. cheese and i also saw him get man-handled by grant winstrom. MANHANDLED? MANHANDLED! by a dude who has to weigh 100lbs less than him. again, awful.
as bad the oline was (and is, and let's say it, they flat out SUCK), warner just killed the team this week. yeah you could say he was shell-shocked. but you could also say the dude holds the ball entirely too long, has the field awareness of a blindfolded peanut (how many of those sacks seemed to be obvious to you guys and gals? what about that pass when he threw it directly at the defender running RIGHT AT HIM???), and what the hell was that women's flag football wobbler he put up that couldn't reach 30 yards and got picked??? i mean, he FINALLY steps up to avoid the rush, has little pressure, has a wide open wr, and flutters it 10 yards short. what nfl qb can't get that ball there??? wow.
finally, and dispiritingly, skorp hit the nail on the head. wow does edge look slow. really slow. i was excited about signing him, but also admittedly a bit worried b/c i hadn't seen his explosiveness in a couple years at indy. i'm cool if he's just a chugger now, but with this oline that may not be enough.
did i say finally? i ain't done. our complete inability to stay discliplined is laughable. did i say we make the same mistakes week in and week out? did i say we were MORE LIKELY to NOT correct our mistakes from last week? i think i did. our d-ends and safeties were regularly outta position b/c they lack disclipline. shawn had a mediocre day, but when he did have success it was squarely b/c our ends collapsed instead of contained. if that's our scheme our scheme flat out sucks. if it's our lineman then they either aren't getting coached outta mistakes, or they just don't understand the mistakes they're committing enough to correct them. either way, someone on this team is flat out dumb. coaches or players, or more likely both.
i realize this is harsh. but man, unlike skorp, i don't see a team that is close. i see a team that was lucky not to get blown out. what's that, 7 fumbles in two games for warner? we were the bounce of the ball away from being totally blownout...
