They played well for most of the night, but not well enough. Seems like that will be the story of the season. Peter Mueller got his first NHL goal, hopefully getting that money off his back is what he needs. He's been badly outplayed by Martin Hanzal, when most people expected the opposite. Mike Zigomanis had a ridiculous backhand shot on his goal, I had no idea he could roof it like that.

5-2 loss to the Red Wings tonight. Jovo was terrible, he was on the ice for four of Detroit's 5 goals. For your $6.5M defenseman, that just can't happen. A trio of rookies picked up assists in Hanzal, Mueller, and Winnik, and Morris and Reinprecht had the goals.

On to pleasant news, Kyle Turris (our 2007 first rounder, 3rd overall pick) is absolutely dominating in NCAA. He has 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in four games to lead Wisconsin in scoring. That is pretty much unheard of for a freshman to come in and put up those kind of numbers. Blake Wheeler (Minnesota) is also doing well, leading his team in scoring with 3 goals and one assist in four games.

Thankfully, Zbynek Michalek will be back for Thursday's game (as will Josh Gratton). Freddy Meyer cleared waivers and was sent to AHL San Antonio. David Aebischer is also on waivers after just one game (where he did just as well as the other two goalies, which doesn't say much). I thought that he had the best chance of the three goalies of sticking with the team.

I was excited when we signed him, i dont understand why he was only given one start.

very nice win - the yotes were holding a viewing party at the buffalo wild wings by my house last night - would of loved to check it out, but didn't know of it until day of and already had plans

This is really good news, too. Thanks for posting.

I was thinking after the goal last night that the Coyotes really need to have a Rookie of the Year candidate soon. If they could have one in a couple of consecutive years, especially if they're scorers, we could see some serious improvement.

Nice to see Doan picking up three points (including his 200th goal) last night. He's always such a slow starter, but hopefully that will get him going soon.

Rick Tocchet is finally out of limbo and according to Bettman will be able to rejoin the Coyotes in February. It is strange that he isn't available to come back now, a 2 year suspension from the NHL for gambling on football is pretty hefty.

Meanwhile, in other news, we raped the Stars 5-0.

We're a game under .500 now.

Mark my words: we will not be the worst team in the NHL this year.

11 games in and it looks like my worst fears are a distinct possibility, that the team will finish 10th or 11th in the conference. In other words, the Coyotes won't be good enough to make the playoffs and they won't be bad enough to pick up a desperately needed impact player in the draft.

Considering they are 1-5 at home and most of the games have been close one goal games (some they probably should have won), this team may have a shot at the playoffs. They are young and they should only get better.

If the Yotes can deal Jovo for some more scoring talent, we may be on to something.

it's a tough conference to make the playoffs in - last year only 1 team got in with under 100 points - the teams don't appear to be as hot thus far though

i hope they yotes can make it - also they should be able to get an impact guy if they miss the playoffs, just in hockey it's not usually realistic to depend on them for the next couple of years

they have a couple guys who they currently own rights to that could join the squad in the next year or so that can help out - i think the club is heading in the right direction now

Awesome game last night!

Let's trade all of our home games for away games. LOL.

Great game last night. Mueller get a hat trick!!

Coyotes are in a position to even their record to .500 tonight.

This year's team is definitely an improvement over last year's team.

Another great win tonight to bring the Coyotes to 7-7-0. The entire division is essentially tied right now for first place gaining about a point per game played.

Dallas, 16 games, 7-7-2, 16 pts.
San Jose, 15 games, 7-7-1, 15 pts.
Anaheim, 17 games, 6-8-3, 15 pts.
Phoenix, 14 games, 7-7-0, 14 pts.
Los Angeles, 15 games, 7-8-0, 14 pts.

From a winning percentage view, the standing should have the Coyotes in 3rd place:

Dallas
San Jose
Phoenix
Los Angeles
Anaheim

Problem is that the NHL standing are based on points, not winning percentage, and some teams have played 17 games (Anaheim) while Phoenix has played only 14 games.

Three games in a row against San Jose coming up.

.

That is really close. I just wish is the NHL would continue to want to make hockey modern, then they should do away with the regulation tie column and go to a standing system like basketball and baseball with the g/b system.

3 games in a row against San Jose (side note: how freaking stupid is that?), and Roenick is sitting at 499 goals. Hmmmm...

Crazy game between LA and Dallas tonight. Dallas was up 4-0 with 8 minutes left, then LA scores five goals in a row to take the lead, followed by a Dallas goal by Modano to send it into OT at 5-5, and then Anze Kopitar scores the game winner for LA. Unreal.

they couldn't of picked a worse time of year to run the 3 set with SJ as I'm having a case of the brokes right now - at least only 1 of the 3 are here in Phx - also SJ gets a game against the stars between games 2 & 3

is the league trying to mfg some bad blood in the division - aside from the normal home & home in consecutive days they normally pull out?!?!

Absolutely brutal three game "series" against San Jose. Not only did they drop all three, they didn't look like they even belonged on the same sheet of ice. Once again, the Coyotes show a glimmer of hope that gets you wanting to believe they can step up a level, then come out completely flat and spin back to reality.
