David Aebischer was let out of his contract so he could sign a 4 year deal with a club in his native Switzerland. Best of luck to him, I still don't know why he didn't get a better shot over Auld.

I don't know if this belongs in this thread or not, but damn, teams named Kings didn't fare too well in the Valley last night

Let's just hope the trend of California teams getting beat in the Valley continues through tonight!

:sparky:

(Granted, it's only been the Kings we've beaten twice in a row, but I'm hoping that having a legitimate #1 goalie is just what this young team needs.)

3 in a row since the pick up of a real goalie.

Bryz has been awesome, its amazing that he just fell right into the team's hands, considering Anaheim was asking for a first rounder for him this summer. Radim Vrbata had a huge night, with two goals (including the tying one with a minute left in the game) plus the shootout clincher. I can't believe the Coyotes stole this guy for Kevyn Adams.

He was on a bad Chicago team the last few years and for some reason was burried on the bench and still was able to get back to back 40 point seasons. He was never given a chance. Great to see him getting a chance to shine.

Wow, what a great game to attend tonight. Coyotes really handed it to the Leafs.

One thing I did learn is that Hal Gill is a real loser. Nice way to try to pick a fight with Carcillo who is about a foot smaller. The 6'7" Gill is a really wuss.

And to all you band wagon Maple Leafs fans, glad your team lost!! Support the home team or move back to Toronto where you can shovel snow all winter.

What a great pick-up! I really would like for the team to lock up Bryzgalov for a few years.

Coyotes ride Bryzgalov's 25 saves to fourth straight win

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Ilya Bryzgalov has fit in perfectly in goal for coach Wayne Gretzky's Phoenix Coyotes.

Bryzgalov made 25 saves for his fourth straight victory since joining Phoenix after being claimed off waivers from Anaheim, leading the Coyotes to a 5-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

"He is truly one of the pieces of this puzzle," Gretzky said. "He's helped us turn this team around, and maybe our franchise. It's only four games and we have a long way to go. It's a nice start for him."

Bryzgalov has allowed only six goals in Phoenix's four-game winning streak, its longest since a seven-game run last Dec. 26-Jan. 9.

"Our players feel pretty good right now," Gretzky said. "Sure, we've win four in a row. The last time I've checked, however, that doesn't win you too many rings."

Toronto has lost four of its last five.

"Right now, this team is in a funk, and good teams found ways to get out of situations like this," Leafs captain Mats Sundin said. "Teams find out what it takes to win, and that's what faces us. No, we have not hit rock bottom, and have 60 games left to turn this thing around."

The Coyotes scored four goals in the first period, two in an 18-second span.

Daniel Winnik opened the scoring at 4:16, and Peter Mueller then beat Andrew Raycroft to the short side at 8:24. At that point, Toronto coach Paul Maurice pulled Raycroft for Vesa Toskala.

"I didn't like that first goal and made the change," Maurice said. "But that was not the story. We didn't move our feet, and that's a big part of the game."

Toskala allowed a goal on the first shot he faced, with Steven Reinprecht firing a wrist shot under the crossbar and over the goalie's glove hand at 8:42.

Kyle Wellwood countered for Toronto, but Derrick Morris made it 4-1 with 1:57 left.

"We're not playing the way we are capable," Toronto Darcy Tucker said. "If everyone works hard, we can turn this around. Our responsibility is to be accountable, and we all know what needs to be done."

Radim Vrbata completed the scoring at 2:05 of the second period. With a goal and assist, Vrbata has five points in the past two goals.

"Sometimes, you have to be lucky and be in the right spot at the right time," Vrbata said. "Before these two games, I didn't think I had a point in six. Now, I'm hot and the puck has found me."

Game notes
Toronto's Jason Blake has failed to score in 16 straight games. His assist on the Leafs' lone goal was his first point since an assist Nov. 2 at New Jersey. ... The Coyotes will play 10 of their next 12 on the road, including a six-game road trip. ... The announced crowd of 17,190 was the Coyotes' second largest of the season.

Embarrassing the Leafs 5-1 (and 3-0 within the first few minutes) on Hockey Night in Canada in front of a full home crowd in order to capture 4 wins in a row. Now that's the way to make a statement.

By the way, Shane Doan is on pace for 70 points, which would be a career high. He has gotten off to a better start than the past few years. I think that shows in the teams record. I am glad he is locked up for a few years. I hope he retires a Coyote. He may not be a HOFer, but is he finishes here, he should be the first Coyote to have his jersey hanging the rafters.

Side note, Jovo is second on the team with 14 points, but first on the team with a minus 8. WOW, I am not sure what to think about that. There is no way we can move the insane contract.

The cool part is, this isn't the first time we've embarrassed the Leafs on HNIC. In 2005-06, all of Canada watched as the Leafs gagged away a 3-0 lead and lost 4-3 to the Yotes.

That said, there's something really awesome about pretty much giving Canada a big fat middle finger by blowing the Leafs out in front of their own national audience, especially since we're one of *those* teams they like to rag on so much.

In addition to the big club, it was also a good weekend for some Coyotes prospects. Kevin Porter and Chad Kolarik, who both play for the University of Michigan, each scored 6 points over two games of action. Porter, who captains the Wolverines, leads the entire nation in scoring with 24 points in 14 games (16 goals, 8 assists). Kolarik is tied for second in the NCAA in scoring, with 20 points (9G,11A) in 14 games.

has anyone seen their howliday pack? - starts at $90 for 2 tix to 4 games (preselected) and a bunch of giveaways - hell of a deal if no major catch - even the cheap seats are worth $11 a game

It is a hell of a deal. Works out to 8 tickets for $90 or $11/ticket, as you stated.

That's the starting price, so I'm sure it pertains to the $15 seats. I would guess they have similar packages that cost more if you want to sit in a better location.

Coyotes beat the Devils, 4-1....so is this team worth watching? Following them through the paper, but haven't seen a game yet this season.

Good effort to beat Brodeur and the Devils 4-1 yesterday. Sjostrom (2G, 1A), Vrbata (1G, 2A) and Hanzal (1G, 2A) provided the bulk of the firepower and was the best performance by a single line for the Coyotes in quite some time.

After a 5-1 trashing of the Rangers, the Coyotes continued their strong road trip with a 3-2 win over Philly despite giving up the first two goals. Yandle picked up his first goal of the season, Sjostrom added his 9th tally of the year, as did Peter Mueller with the go ahead goal in the third period.

Nice comeback win last night. I was disappointed that I couldn't find the Coyotes vs. New York Rangers game on TV on Sunday.

Coyotes are back to .500 and are pretty entertaining to watch. This team is playing hard, unlike the past two seasons.
