@ColdPickleNachos

Here is another eye test concerning the height of new Suns players.

Next to Ayton, I'm thinking James Jones is the tallest. LOL

James Jones' listed height is 6'8, so that makes sense. Everything looks about how I would expect, so that's good! The other nice thing is that all four draftees have good wingspans.

The measurements seem right.

If looks say anything, George King looks like a basketball player.

Funny how Mikal looks like the shortest sitting, but much taller compared to the others when standing. He must have a very short torso.

Will Brandon Knight make a big contribution?

If the Suns were able to obtain Beverley they could potentially play some mean defense with Beverley, Jackson and Bridges with Ayton as the rim protector.

Pass. Beverly is less than a year off microfracture.
True and that’s a concern. As is the report from clippers fans that he’d already lost a step. But I think we are really seeking a bridge pg and I think anyone we get that in role is going to either have limitations or drawbacks.

Somehow I missed the microfracture. If healthy, maybe sign him to a 2 year contract with a team option for the 2nd year. I wouldn't want to trade more than a 2nd round pick if the Clippers pick up the team option.

So confirmation Len and Payton will not be re-signed.

Also Ristic will not be with the summer Suns.

LOL

100% certainty that Ristic isn't playing because Ayton is on the team.

It does seem awkward but Ristic would have been a candidate for a backup center position.

I guess he did not like his chances.

There's got to be some other reason why Ristic has bailed on the Suns SL team. Did he think Ayton wasn't going to play in the Summer League? We did draft him already. Maybe he got a deal from a team in Europe or China. I don't think another SL team could make him an offer while he was committed to the Suns. It's no big loss though. Odds of him making the roster had to be pretty slim.

Will Big Sauce be on the SL team? I guess if we cut his salary he won't be but we have until July 6th to do that. Since he's on a real contract he might not be eligible for SL but I'm not sure how all of that works. It would probably help his chances of sticking around though.

Perhaps the Suns are trying to get something for Ulis in a trade.

The most recent Slam article on JJ showed him working on his three pointer all summer and on his handle. He said he expects to be playing pg more.

That is intriguing actually. He has an excellent BBIQ, he is a very good passer, his handle is good (not pg good, but close), and he can defend the position. If Doncic can play pg, why not JJ?

Well... ball handling and passing to start with. I cringed every time JJ put the ball on the floor last year.

Come on man, you cringed every time he put the ball on the floor?...

I am not suggesting he has handles like Doncic, but it's not like he is bad in that department, especially for a wing. He certainly needs to work on it, but you make it sound like it was a guaranteed turnover or something whenever he put the ball on the floor and that is not close to being true.

In terms of scoring margin, there was no worse player on the roster than Payton last season. While he was on the court we were outscored by an insane 20 points per 100 possessions, the team as a whole shot 2% worse and our opposition shot 3% better.

I don't know exactly what it is that he's doing out there, but it absolutely kills his team.

I hate advanced stats like that. Advanced stats showed Alex Len as one of the best players on the team... Take it with a grain of salt.

Well Payton is gone, so no need to worry about him anymore. Knight isn't ideal but we have some answers at PG next season since Payton isn't getting a qualifying offer.

I mentioned it in another thread. If JJ can work on developing even some mediocre PG skills that will open things up offensively for the Suns. Just knowing how to play the position gives them the ability to sort of switch within possessions to try and find favorable matchups. Booker can play PG and so can Knight. No one will dispute those 2 even though some really don't like Knight. Bender played PG in Summer League last year and sees the court quite well. Provided a PG isn't guarding Dragan then he can put the ball on the floor a little also. I know they aren't all PG's but if they're capable of playing PG in a possession with Ayton inside as the bailout option then that gives them some interesting options and a ton of flexibility.

Knight, Booker, Jackson, Bender, and Ayton. That's our potential starting 5 and they should be capable of spreading the ball around and switching roles offensively.
