The article states that we are looking for a big man and he fits. He's old, but he still averaged 6/7 in 23 minutes. I think I'm inclined to support this.

Rolo-Dampier-Jones
Turk-Lawal-Warrick-Collins
Hill-Childress-Dudley-Clark
JRich-Janning
Nash-Dragic

That roster is a head-scratcher though. Especially at 4. There's tons of depth and interchangability, but we're also looking at Turk and Warrick as significant contributors to the frontcourt. I think we're going to have to run people into the ground and therefore we'll have to run a 12-man rotation.

But, back to Dampier. I'm inclined to think he could help in spots....

The issue isn't whether or not Dampier can run. Who cares if your 5 finishes as long as you get defense and rebounding? The problem is Dampier would clog the lane for Nash, doesn't spread the floor in the half court. He's an awful fit because of that.

I forgot about Frye. So, if Dampier is a no-go for us, sub Frye for him in my lineup breakdown and we're still going to run 12-deep (or at least I think we'll HAVE TO) so we can run teams ragged. 7-seconds or less might have to become 5-seconds or less....

This all sounds vaguely familiar.......Shaq anyone? The Suns still led the league most of that season offensively. I think it's been proven you don't need your 5 to run down the court with the rest to score early. Also, it's not like we are going to be in the lane the same way as before using constant pick and rolls since Amare is gone. Damp can set picks at the top of the key for all I care.

I am not sure Damp has anything left but I just don't see how another big body would be a bad thing for the Suns. We play more traditionally when Nash goes to the bench anyway. When Dragic is running point I think we could use a more traditional big man.

If Robin stays out of foul trouble, I don't think it's a stretch to think we'll go big with:

Robin/Frye/Hedo/Childress/Dragic or Nash or even Hill.

Not great, but certainly not horrible either. Channing really has to concentrate on rebounding this season. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that he'll play center every time he's on the floor.

More like:

Rolo-Frye-Dampier-Jones (Frye in front of Dampier)
Turk-Warrick-Lawal-Collins (Warrick in front of Lawal)
Hill-Dudley-Clark
JRich-Childress-Janning (Childress at SG)
Nash-Dragic

I still want a trade with the Clippers for DeAndre Jordan.

What do we want from the center position guys? You can't have an invisible big that's not in the lane and still gets offensive rebounds. How far from the basket does Rolo move? I bet Dampier could do the same. What is it, maybe 3-4 feet?

I'm not saying he's a good player or that he would do well for us. He might be decent if it's a contract year.

I say pass and trade the assets for some real talent.

We have too many players already. If Dampier can be a coach on the bench to younger bigs, fine. That would be my only reason for having KT. He was one of the best position defenders of his day, but that day is in the past.

Can I ask why you kept Collins on that depth chart? He's playing in Europe. As for Frye, he WILL be part of the PF rotation, you can count on that.

I'm thinking Lawal could overtake Warrick by the quarter mark of the season. Warrick will also get minutes at the 3, so he'll get his time. That's why I had the depth like that. Childress at 2 is fair and probably better. If we got Jordan from the Clips, I'd be very happy....

My bad Chaplin, I just didn't remember Collins leaving for Europe. Which is great by the way. You all should come see us.

It would be great if Lawal could make his way up the bench and get some playing time. Fingers crossed!

Per Coro:
Yes, the Suns had an interest in Erick Dampier. They had expected this waiver from Charlotte for a while and had held off on any big man move or guaranteed commitment because of it. However, they are merely interested in checking into it, not married to the idea of acquiring him. You have to consider what salary he would play for and how much of a role he would have in Phoenix. Both are likely to lead him elsewhere, where he can make more money and play more minutes. Multiple outlets have reported Miami, Toronto and Houston are interested too but sources said Miami has the edge.

I think I am MORE disturbed that our new front office is looking at this guy. Can anyone say Shaq part two? If Shaq was a bad fit with Nash, how will Dampier be better?

You're kidding, right? A guy that can play defense and rebound. Oh, and he wouldn't start, either. How could you be disturbed by the front office looking at him? That makes NO sense.

I'm not a fan of him myself, but inquiring about him seems to be a no-brainer to me.

I don't want another Collins type big man that has nothing to offer us except sitting on the bench all year. Why would that help us? At least bring in a developmental young guy that might get some minutes, OR a veteran that fits our system and can contribute. Dampier is an eastern conference type player, imho, and I watched him have years where injuries have kept him sidelined from being a contributor. An aged injury prone guy who isn't going to play for us is hardly an inspiring front office move. Why not bring in Patrick Ewing, or Hakeem Olajawon? At least I could get a Suns jersey with their name on it! :D

I think that he will get more money and playing time with some other team.

IMHO, the Suns are going to focus on bigs who can run. But during camp, they need bigs to bang into.
