Disappointing. I thought it best to at least see what he looks like on the field. I hope they arent releasing him for his benefit. We shouldve held him hostage.

Oh well, that chapter is closed.

It'll be interesting to watch, but it won't be on our dime in our locker room. I'd wish anyone the best. Hopefully he is truly all together, but fool me once.....

Talk is cheap. Especially from a known liar.
That to me says he wanted his whole big fat contract. Sorry, nope. Now go play one -year for someone else on a prove-it deal and if your 30-year old ass isn't "all-pro level" you're not getting squat. Bye. And bye.

thats a crucial year for bucannon he need to show up he can play linebacker in the nfl, at now his presence on the field was just average, he didnt play as a first rounder
watching his frame he doesnt have the body and instict to play ILB but they made that
choice i personally disagree
i have some faith on him at strong safety

Doug & Wolf hypothesized this morning that the 30 min meeting might have (at least partly) been the Cards laying out the process in detail that he needs to follow, and then putting it on him/his agent on if they were even willing to follow that process.

Definitely not out of the question that DWash and his agent, after seeing the Cards requirements for taking him back, decided a fresh start somewhere else would be the better route.

Per Florio @ PFT: "The Cardinals decided to release Washington after discussions with the player and negotiations with his representatives did not result in an agreement between the two sides. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Cardinals had interest in keeping Washington, but his anticipated role in light of the additions the team has made (including most recently the decision to select linebacker Haason Reddick with the 13th pick in the draft) prevented the two sides from identifying an arrangement that was suitable for the team and the player."

Perhaps he thought he'd just waltz back into the starting lineup??

my guess is that the decision to cut him was made long ago... the meeting was a chance for dwash to change their minds...he didn't,..so as soon as it made financial sense..ie, not affecting comp picks,...they cut him loose

I see Reddick as the future franchise D player at ILB. With Golden and Chandler on the outsides, we're in good shape at LB.

However I dont have a ton of faith in Deone. Its not his fault. Hes just too small. Hes a fine stop gap till we find a partner for Reddick.

then we'll have a Willis+Bowman combo in the middle for years to come.

What? The dbag was still a dbag? Shocking! Can't wait to hear the apologists spin this!

I'm not sure if I fall into the apologists, but the Cards bungled this from the beginning. They should have cut him years ago, not paid him his bonus etc.

I'm surprised they didn't at least see what he was like in OTA/Training Camp before making the decision.

I just hope he doesn't go on to destroy us in the playoffs or something. And, I hope he gets his life together, but I'm shedding no tears for this move today.

Good. Done deal. Move on. Are they going to miss a player they haven't had in 3 years? I doubt it.

Bonus was already paid, and getting it back is not easy. Past that, if it doesn't hurt the team in any way to keep him until they could legally talk to him again, which turned out to be 3 years later....I am not sure what they bungled?

he is undersize and doesnt have instict to play ILb
plus his speed after he gained 10 lb was nothing special

DWash reminds me of Richard Dumas. What a waste of talent.

that's exactly what I was saying in that other thread. and people got all excited when Dumas did finally come back at the end of the 1995 season and he ended up being trash. It sucked... I LOVED him. Was my favorite player behind Chuck on that 1993 team and thought he was going to be a HOFer and then he came back and he was just a shell of himself. I'm expecting the exact same from Washington.

Guys who have substances abuse problems that keep them out of the league for years have major life problems guys. Thinking that while dealing with drug problems that literally keep them from making MILLIONS they are staying in tip top shape isn't realistic and once you lose that for years, I don't think most athletes can get it back.

IIRC, The Cards were contemplating cutting him before paying the bonus to him.

.....on that, I am with you, I think that is correct. That was a long time ago, and the fact I had to endure Kevin Minter while this played out may have effected my memory, and opinion. LOL
