Was a beautiful day today and practice was held outside.
Was nice to see about 40 minutes prior to practice starting Daryl Washington was out there by himself with the LBer coach standing in front of the trash cans intently listening and asking questions. Obviously trying to learn his asignments and putting in the hard work to do so.
Whiz is obvously letting teh older players take days off. Neither Robinson or Porter practiced today.
Practice again started with the rather slow PR walk through. During that all 4 QB's were taking snaps from center and practicing their footwork during drop backs. Matts footwork is far superior to the other 3 IMO.
Then they broke into individual position drills and did that for approx. 30 minutes. Fitz stumbled in one of these drils and was slow getting up. (more on this later) Stumbling was a problem all day due to all the rain the previous days.
Then they did PR practice again. Both Green and Roberts were back to return. Only this time neither one of them caught a single punt whatsoever. I couldnt believe it. Ok thats because they were acting as though they were catching the ball and letting it go over their heads. This was strictly a drill for the gunners to get to the ball and down it at the 1 to 2 yard line. It amazes me how good our P is at that. They were downing it there quite often.
Then they broke into the 9 on 9 running game drill and the CB vs WR drill.
During the CB/WR drill there was another good fight. This time between Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Adams. They were both getting really physical and locked up with each other. Adams shoved Fitz off and said something. Fitz literally sent a round house punch with his right hand into the side of Adams helmet. There was som eforce behind it too. Adams immediately took his helmet off and threw it to the ground and Challenged Fitz standing in front of him in a boxers stance. Matt Leinart Immediately came over and pulled Fitz away. It was weird because not many people nitced the whole encounter. Most of the crowd was engaged on the smash mouth 9 on 9 running game drill that was going on. It was nice to see Michael Admas be so feisty. Even nicer to see Matt run over and break it up.
During 7on 7 drills and all of practice today Matt was much sharper. He was hitting his passes in the accuracy drills and threw two beautiful over the should throws to both Fitz and Doucett. Doucett's was for a TD. The only incompletions were due to dropped balls by the WR. 2 of which came from Breaston. Roberts again didnt drop a single ball today and made a few nice catches in traffic.
Fitz was definitely hurt today. After the over the shoulder throw from Matt he hit the floor and didnt get up for a good 30 seconds. He then went back to the crowd and removed all of his pads and was bing checked in the rib area by the trainer. He put them back on and came back in. He made a diving catch from Anderson and agaisn was slow to get up and went back to the trainer visibly strianing and having the trainer rub his ribcage area. Jw7 and I were pleading with him (in our minds) to shut it down for the day. He didnt he went back out there during all drills but was ohysically struggling and it was obvious.
During OL vs. DL drills Gabe Watson was an absoute animal. Destroying pretty much anyone that lined up in front of him. I saw the rook Williams go up agaisnt Deuce at least four times. I would say that was a draw each getting the better of each other 2 times a piece.
During 11 on 11 people were slipping and sliding everywhere. All 3 RB's had some really nice runs. Beanie did a spin move that got some rave reviews from the crowd. The rookie RB from Kentucky who's name I cant recall is very shifty and quick so far. Will be interesting to see him in live action. Even though it will be a miracle for him to make the team. Daryl Washington is VERY quick to the ball and it is very noticeable. I hope with all the extra work he is putting into learn he can rise up the depth chart rather quickly.
Other players that stood out to me today:
Calais Campbell: Just a stud in every way.
Early Doucett: The talent in this kid is evident hopefully he can stay healthy.
Kerry Rhodes: Just very smooth out there.
Derek Anderson: Was also throwing the ball really well today.
Greg Toler: Made the play of the day skying through the air to knock away a perefectly throw ball to the outside corner by Anderson. Would have dropped right in the WR bread basket. Toler jumped up and twisted and somehow put himself into position to get the ball. It was very acrobatic and athletic. The crowd was full of ooohs and ahhhhs following the play. He was playing and covering well all day.
This is my last report till after next Mondays practice.
