LAA is going to want at least 2 Top 10 guys even though Ohtani is a free agent. Another challenge is paying him for 10 years would be a lot for a guy about to turn 30. If he is cool with a 5 year deal for about $45M a year maybe that is doable considering ARZ really doesn’t have a big contract unless you count Carroll’s.
LAA wants double the player compensation...since they know he's basically 2 players in 1. So you're looking at 2 A level prospects and at least 2 B level prospects, plus probably some other MLB roster players. It's gonna be huge for anyone to get him. The caveat for a team like AZ to give up the farm, so to speak, is getting Ohtani to agree to a contract extension before his butt ever lands in Phoenix. If AZ has zero chance in keeping him, then they can't afford to rent him for the amount of compensation LAA is requiring.

They have a poll at AZ Sports going, and fans are 2-1 AGAINST renting him for just half a season. If we are giving up the farm so to speak, we want him long term.

And we only have to pay MadBum 14 million next year and that contract is gone.

Lawlar is the only untouchable prospect.
at this point - i can give up Jones + whatever- only if he agrees to an extension - 50M aint bad 40M for best power bat in baseball and 10M for a 5th starter (probably 3rd for AZ) He will pay for himself, as his presence will make getting a new TV deal easier

Plus when Randy Johnson was pitching, he would sell out the stadium on his days on the mound. I know Ohtani would do that at least at first with fans wanting to see him play.

The Ohtani thing would be more about blocking division rivals from getting him. If he ends up on a team like the Yankees, not so bad. You can't let SF get him. That would totally suck!
I was listening to local radio there and they said that they are hearing that Arte Moreno doesn't want to be known as the guy that traded away Ontani and that he would rather lose him to free agency because he would get roasted forever if they trade him. Have no clue if that is true but it's not farfetched.

They have two of the top talents in baseball, but haven't been able to build around them. One of the things mentioned is Moreno's franchise doesn't have the best Farm Club. We obviously don't want to trade away our strength which is arguably our farm system. Some of the guys we see now on the big league team.

I don't give up Jones, Lawlar or Pfaadt unless there's an extension
Jones is so far away and already injury prone and Pfaadt seems to be a AAAA talent. If Ohtoni can be retained then they can float Lawler for all i care. Tommy Troy can be Lawlers replacement @ SS, Troy will probably beat him to the bigs anyway as is

Jones’ value may be as high as it will ever be and his value is low right now. His body breaking down at that age is concerning.

Lawlar is an athletic IF with power. He’s not perfect but he’s as close to untouchable as we have.

SELL...SELL...SELL

Luvello is terrible - his micky mouse musical chairs of lineups and his love affair with players that suck is pathetic.

Trade Walker, Gurriel & Kelly yesterday, dont risk any young talent under control cuz Kendrick cant/wont pay for anyone else

Dbacks are in need of an Isbia like owner, which for the Phx market is getting greedy. Should be thankful we even have him alone

Thank GOD Carroll signed an extension already - he is already under paid

Actually i would entertain offers for Marte - his value will never be higher and he is always a play away from injury

I really with Marte, you want one of our younger guys to be ready to come up for that middle infielder spot. I do think you are right. Marie is one of my favorite players, but his trade value isn't going to be going up.
