How ya doin , Buddy?
Well, you are standing on the threshold of prehaps the rest of your career. Lot's of pressure, huh? It can't be easy following a legend like Warner. Fair or not this is the standard you will inevitably be held to and measured by.
I don't understand the pundits that have already buried you with the conclusion you will fail. If they looked closer they would see a winning organization that has surrounded you with a ton of talent. You have wonderful receivers and a tandem of running backs that we haven't seen since the days of Ottis Anderson. They would see a smart head coach who finds ways to get the most out of his players by adjusting to the player's strengths rather than the other way around.
Yep. Everything is in place. The table is set for you to succeed. You have been part of the system for 3 years now. You have learned by watching Warner over that same period. You have matured and worked hard. The ball is literally in your hands.
But in my opinion, there is one thing missing.
Swagger. You need to some how find it and show it in practice, in games and with the media. DON'T look down at the ground when you are being interviewed. DON"T be afraid to chew some ass when somebody messes up (see Warner). DON"T apologize and proclaim " I need to get better" and "We have to clean it up." YOU ARE OUR QUARTERBACK. YOU are going to shape the personality of this team.
Look your doubters right in the eye and tell them to be there on game day. We know as Cardinal fans that Whiz is not going to show anything to our opponents and he is not going to insert a game plan in preseason to highlight your strengths. We know and accept there are going to be dump off passes and a conservative approach before the season starts. We are not looking for Kurt Warner numbers in preseason.
But we are looking for swagger. We are looking for confidence. We're even looking for a little cockiness. Don't be afraid to proclaim your and your teammates abilities. Don't be afraid to fail because there will be times you are going to come up short. Even the greatest ones do.
And finally, embrace this opportunity and HAVE FUN! I have seen the things you have done in the past and your accomplishments. There is no reason to believe you can't achieve a level of excellence that will be adequate to get this team to the playoffs again. Maybe not the level that Warner has done in the past, but none the less enough to win. I'll let you in on a little secret we have among fans. We don't care if you throw for 400 yards or 200 yards as long as we win. We don't care if you throw 3 td's or 1 td as long as we win.
I know you can do it. The only thing that is going to stop you is you.
Sincerely,
