... the same day Livingston is released from Miami. Could he be coming here? Or is there another trade in the works? Barbs was not at practice yesterday. Or maybe another big man?

Someone has to be signed, at least in a 10 day contract basis, right?

Well it could be a few things. The Suns had to make a signing to cover the league min of 13 players. The league now can sign 10 day contracts so.....either the Suns want to look at a 10 day contract, a released player will be signed or there is at least a 2 for 1 trade in the works.

Yes. I've always thought the Suns would string filling the backup PG position out until they found someone they like. The Suns were not confident in Dee Brown thus they did not give him a guaranteed contract. Maybe they go a couple of 10 day contracts on a player they like or decide to make a trade now for a PG.

The Arizona Republic intimates that the Suns might be interested in Shaun Livingston. We'll see.

Just a financial move by the Suns. Brown's contract would've become guaranteed if they didn't release him this week. Wouldn't be surprised to see him brought back on a 10 day contract basis. I don't think there's much this in terms of a trade or anything.

Yup

They signed him because they had to, the Suns will not sign or aquire another impact player this season. We're not trying to win a championship, just trying to make it out of the first round. :(

Yes and no. You can't have 10 day contracts in the playoffs. (IIRC) So they will have to sign someone to a guaranteed contract eventually. They are going to use the 10 day contracts to find someone, but it isn't just a financial move per se. Why pay someone (Dee Brown) if you aren't confident in his abilities?

This just buys them more time.

Oh Jesus Chrysler - can we just get away from this line of thinking? Who in the hell do you want them to bring in exactly if they were willing to take on the money?

This refrain is getting about as old as Methusala. If you are going to say that at least say it when its actually relevant.

Like when they sell another draft pick for cash again:(

You sure? Wasn't Linton Johnson on a 10 day contract basis pretty much all season while he was here? He was on our playoff roster. Unless maybe you have to sign them to a guaranteed deal to get them on your playoff roster, but by then, the contract is probably peanuts anyway.

That's what I'm thinking. I thought we signed Linton Johnson at the end of the year. I may be mistaken though.

edit... Yep, we signed him on April 16th for the rest of the season last year.

I thought there was a season wide rule where you can't sign a player to more than 2 consecutive 10 day contracts. After the second one you have to sign them for the remainder of the season. Almost positive this is true.

That is one rule I am not/was not aware of.

So for Linton, that was pretty much just another 10 day deal with the way we were bounced early...:(

You could be right.

It seems like we had Linton for a couple 10 days, then he went away, and we brought him back again. Maybe that was the playoff signing?

That's right, or at least it used to be -- maybe it changed under the new CBA. I thought the magic number was three consecutive 10-days (not two), but I don't remember for sure.

I thought we signed him for a special playoff contract after his first one.

I think you're right. That's the way I recall it.

I hope they bring in Shaun Livingston.

Agreed. He should be good for 5 to 10 minutes a game. Plus, from what I remember of him, he was a serviceable player. We don't need him to be Nash. Just play good enough to give him a break every now and then.

He WAS a good player, but that was before he destroyed his knee. I just don't see anyone coming back from that kind of injury.

Whoever we sign isn't gonna get much playing time unless Nash gets seriously injuried.
