So a former WR is the final word on a SS? ;) I had to do it lol I know others there liked him as well. Hey, I think he's a solid player, I just believe we over drafted the guy. Most peeps had him as a mid second rounder, even the NFLN if I'm not mistaken. I still don't think Bucannons fast 40 time shows in game time.

I watched every episode of path to the draft Steven, getting views from each side of the spectrum. Most hear talked about value & I don't think we achieved that. I think the value at 20 was to either pick JF or Carr at that point. I liked the Aggie & I think we missed we golden opportunity to add a lower round & cheaper potential franchise QB. It was the #20 pick, not a top 5 or even a top 10.

Let's see what happens at #91, then we'll have a better gauge of that trade.

It actually crossed my mind that I'd get this kind of response, that's why I added the "not just" to the Curtis Conway comment. Bucky liked him too and he was a kick returner so he should know.:) I think we drafted him a little earlier than we wanted too but I just don't think he'd be there when we drafted next.

I like the pick. He reminds me a lot of TIm McDonald.

I've watched a lot of Wazzu football since our cable provider dropped ESPN and Fox Sports Arizona in favor of the PAC-12 Network. Once he works he's way into the starting lineup all fears will be set aside.

He's an ADub type that can (gasp!) actually cover.

Yes, I'm a Washington State homer...and yes, I'll be getting hammered with the Mickey's malt liquor I picked up this evening (no Rainer, Oly, Lucky, or Heidelberg) in preparation of some late-night cow tipping!

Just listened to his interview - I like the kid - hope he works out well for us. Doesn't sound like he won't bring the effort and focus.

I've also seen scouting reports comparing him to James Ihedigbo and Bernie Pollard. And a WSU homer site essentially saying he is a poor man's Kam Chancellor.

Chancellor is limited which is fine in Seattle's secondary. Hopefully our secondary makes Bucannon better too. He was surrounded by crap at WSU.

One of the guys on CBS had him going to Green Bay in the 1st...and they all seemed to love the pick...Prisco gives it a B.

Wait what? A B? What is Prisco thinking? This kid is already a bust! He's Wendel Bryant! He's Calvin Pace! Cut him! Rod Graves! Fire BA/SK! ROBBLE ROBBLE! NEGATIVE OVERREACTION!!!

Some thoughts for those who care...

1-Facts are that when you have a deep draft, your rankings get clumped together. In those cases, you tend to prioritize tiers of players and you want to make sure you grab the players whose tiers end fastest. The S position was about 4-5 legit players deep.

2-agree with it or not, we play in a physical division, value physical play and stature, and took the S who fit the mold the best in this entire draft. He is the biggest hitter. He makes the most plays. He is one of the longest S's in the draft. THis all includes Dix, Ward and Pryor.

3-We drafted a playmaker. One of the areas that stood out with Bucannon for me is his ability to make plays. Over 4 years he had 15 ints and 7 forced fumbles. I am a believer that the ability to force turnovers is a huge indicator of instincts and overall in-game awareness. That means that while in the thick of the action of a game, Bucannon is instinctive enough and aware enough to target the ball rather than just man. That is a big plus.

Despite what some may say about watching Bucannon, I came away impressed. He was the only legitimate playmaker on a poor defense and still was able to make plays despite teams working away from him. He was the most physical safety in the draft class IMO and had some of the best measurables. Would I have loved to get him 10 spots lower? Sure, but if I know there is a huge drop off in talent at S after Bucannon, Ward and Brooks, yuo don't risk missing out on the S you want.

We wanted to add length at S to help cover TEs...got it.

We wanted a physical presence in the middle of our defense...got it.

We wanted speed to cover...got it.

We value playmakers on defense...got it.

Don't know why folks are quibbling about getting a guy who is an exact fit at a position of need who also allowed us to net an extra 3rd round pick. We essentially drafted Adrian Wilson with more developed coverage skills at this stage.

Everyone wants to talk about projections and it cracks me up. Derek Carr was projected as top QB in this draft by "some". Marquise Lee a top 20 pick by "some". Kony Ealy -same. The point is who cares. What All the so called pundits think and actual nfl teams think are two different things. Dude was gonna get drafted sooner than most think. If you watch actual game tape of the top three safeties(dix, Pryor, and bucannon) Bucannon stands out plain and simple.

I dont get why people are ticked that we took a guy in the 1st who was projected to go in the 2nd. If he is the guy they wanted and there was a it was highly likely he wouldnt be there the next time they came up then isnt it the right pick?

I would get it if people thought he was going to be a flat out turd but thats not what I'm seeing here. He is of good size, very athletic, a play maker, seems like a stand out kid. If you feel like we took him 20 picks too soon then I dont know what to say other than we didnt have a pick in the next 20.

And I agree with people that New England was probably about to gobble him up.

And the best part about the pick... he wasnt Carr.

Wasn't there some talk about bringing Adrian Wilson back as a coach?

This was a very intelligent pick by our guys. Let me explain it to you all who aren't thrilled with it.

SS was our biggest need. We had no legitimate starter at that position. Bucannon was the one I thought would be great for us, yet he seemed to be a 2nd round pick. The situation was that he was the only SS left in the draft that could start in this league. The drop off after him was tremendous. If we had waited till our next pick he would have surely been gone. If we tried to trade back to the 2nd round, we might still have lost him.

So, we filled our greatest need with a really good player who can start immediately. We had to grab this kid, in my opinion. We not only got our man, but was smart enough to pick up an extra pick for later in the draft.

I give us a B+ on this one. It would have been an A if we would have had a high 2nd round pick to get him with. But believe me, if we had screwed this up and not got this kid, we would have been s.o.o.l.

We need him, we got him, and we picked up an extra pick on top of it.

He immediately improves our team and chances of getting to the S.B. this year.

I can wrap my heart around bucannon -he is now a card- But damn it - I feel Keim is trying to feed me crap and call it honey again, lived with that all the time the Cards have been in AZ! Maybe with the exception of Denny Green! Call me jaded cause I am! but I feakin earned it!

Carlos Hyde or Mason is rated higher and would have made at least as much impact- Ditto on Carr or Bridgewater . Ha Ha Dixon may not have fit scheme as well. But BPA our pick is not - Need yea -so say what you mean and mean what you say and don't say we traded down and threw down a smoke screen to get our guy before the Niners! We did not! We reached for a guy to cover and maybe knock the snot out of TE's. Which aint all bad.

Immediate need, immediate Starter, compensates for lighter/faster safety type WIL in Dwash - thumper SIL in Minter and thumper SS. Looks more and more like the Dansby, Hayes, AW and Rolle middle of the field we took to the SB- He should have better speed than AW - geared more to pass defense. How much does Keim draft like Denny?

Mark My word as teams build more slanted to the pass defense, and less to run defense, the RB will return to the engine of the offense. Although they aint AP caliber there are great backs in this draft and theses NFCW teams win with great RB play- defense and reducing the amount of takeaways. Seahawks and the Niners already prove that this formula still works against the pundits beliefs.

We need a large impact back to go with Ellington- that don't take crap off no one like Gore and Lynch, surprised Rams haven't replaced Steven Jackson yet. That is if we want to take pressure off Palmer and the oline and win this tough division. Like Edge did for Warner in the 08 playoffs. before stupid Whis and Haley called 10 run plays in the SB to produce another close loss.

I only watched him twice last season but if he's a 4th round pick then give me a team full of 4th rounders.

People are ticked off that the Cardinals stuck to their own board, and not ESPN's ?

Oh well, people are allow to get upset over what they want to I guess.

I see no problem with the pick, and choosing the player where we did. He was not going to drop to the 2nd round, and as for the "projected" complaint, I had seen many a mock draft with him at the end of the 1st round.

I would have picked Birdgewater but they didn't. We need safeties and Buchanan is going to fit very nicely into what the Cardinals do. Hardly something to be irate over, IMHO, but to each his own.

Absolutely love this pick! Great leader, 3-year team captain, and one of the best special team coverage guys in his conference. Add to that his tremendous upside at safety. A day-one contributor and an additional third round pick besides.

On paper, the Arizona Cardinals have one of the best secondaries in the National Football League.

Welcome to Arizona Deone!

This got me hooked, I will hang around for the rest of the draft. Then go back to creepy guy looking through the window just lurking status.

Hi Joe!

Good to hear from you and good to know you are lurking.

Hope all is well.

Keep a firm shoulder, and run through your target or you will hurt yourself.

And remember, if the cow doesn't go down to hurl your malt liquor bottle into the deep void of the night sky in frustration.

I'm not saying I dislike the player. I dislike taking him at 27. People have said we got our Kam Chancellor. Seattle got their Kam Chancellor in round 5. I'm sure Buchanon was the next safety on their board, after Pryor, I seriously doubt he was overall highest BPA on their board.

In the box safeties that are mainly hitters are limited in today's NFL. Sure, he's a hard hitter. How is that going to change the first time he gets flagged/fined for hitting an "unprotected" player? The NFL is legislating that type of player out of the league.

the cows going down

I tipped one off the dam into the cattle tank water - one evening many moons ago- never forget that look on the bulls face! MOOOOOOOO

Don't know about Washington but in Rural AZ, to toss a Little kings cream ale with beer left in it- is Alcohol ABUSE!

The Cards got better today- I just had higher expectations after the trade. Expectations are premeditated resentments.
