Had microfracture surgery on his knee last year.

(For those of you keeping score on that type of surgery.)

Let me guess???? He didn't see Dr (butcher) Steadman for that procedure??? Where all promising Cardinals lose their ability to walk

Considering that Steadman essentially invented the procedure, it's kind of silly to blame him for not being good at it. The primary difference with Foster besides age when he had the surgery, is that Foster had adequate rehab time because Carolina essentially thought his career was over and didn't force him back early.

You look at the colossal microfracture washouts we had, Swann and Wadsworth, they were both rushed back. Swann had the surgery and was back playing 6 weeks later in a game, when he should have still been on crutches. Wads had it and then tried himself to get back, and never did. Carolina handled it well they let Foster sit his entire rookie year, his initial surgery was just arthroscopic, he had constant pain and swelling so they decided to do a more thorough surgery and wound up doing the microfractures procedure, and he didn't play again shutdown in the preseason of his rookie year and didn't return until this year.

Wads and Swann had already had multiple surgeries when they had the procedure as last gasps, Foster had surgery too, in fact when they first said he was having the procedure everyone wrote him off, but he worked hard and came back. Good for him I've always been a Foster fan.

He was exploding in the preseason before getting injured. If he didn't get in trouble in college he would have been alot higher in the draft. He was rolling people over in UCLA.

One of the knocks on him coming out of college was that he had a fumbling problem (a la Ahman Green and Travis Henry). I've been really impressed with the way that he seems to be ever-cognizant of protecting the ball. You can see him reach over and secure the ball when he's about to make contact, and that's really good teaching.

Yep the fumbles, the knee surgery in college, and the off field issues with the agent were the only reason he wasn't taken higher. I've been raving about the kid since his freshman year at UCLA. With his knee history he's not likely to have a long career, but right now he's a perfect change of pace to Stephen Davis, and wait until they start to fully take advantage of his pass catching ability, they aren't really using him that much yet he caught only 26 balls this year.

My brother couldn't stand him as a freshman at UCLA, because he beat out local product (Mountain Pointe HS in Ahwatukee) Keith Brown. The guy (Foster) was as explosive as any back I've seen in college.

Wasn't Bruce Smith also a successful case for microfracture? If so, how long was he out? If it was a long recovery, that's just more evidence for Russ's case.
