This is great news about the Booker extension forthcoming. As with others I hope there is not a player option.

Hopefully no 5th year PO. I would not mind if they did a fifth year "mutual option" if that was possible. The idea would be that both the team and player could tear up the fifth year of the deal and sign him to whatever the present max deal is. But he cannot go to the open market.

Are there mutual options in the NBA? I can't recall hearing of any in the last few years but I could be wrong.

I don't mind a PO for the 5th year mainly because if he signs the extension now, we'd still have him signed for the next 5 seasons. So while it's not ideal, we still have quite some time before he'd hit the open market. He'd only be 26 then. It might actually be better for the team if he did that because of the ages and years in the league that determine the max percentage a player can receive. I'm not sure on that though. I know there is a difference but he'd have 8 years and be 26 when he opted out so it might just be a 30% max instead of 35%, which would really cut into things. Either way, that 1 year isn't enough to stress over. I'm sure they can come to an agreement to make it work and whether the PO is involved or not, we'll have some long security with him.

Don't know why there wound be. Is he going to turn down 150 mill because of that? Sarver just needs to say no. Unless booker wants to give in another area

You should have told Booker, his agent, McDonough, Sarver and Jones there was no need for discussion..

Someone who wants to be the “face of the franchise” should be committed to the team for the long haul.. not 4 years.

That said Suns have no choice but to give him what he wants. They put all their chips into this immature brat by declaring him the face of the franchise and allowing him input on team decision. To make matters worse they approached this meeting with their pants down (“youre mad we cut your boy.. lets make you happy again by finally renogotiating the contract so you dont bolt”). Lets be honest no other team would max him as he hasnt proved he is worth it. Suns are morons and have no choice but to.

Immature brat? You have anything to back up a statement like that? From everything that I have seen from him he seems to be wise beyond his years and certainly not immature.

As to whether or not he deserves this contract, he absolutely does and I would be willing to bet that if he were a free agent this year teams would have ponied up max money.

The only thing I could possibly agree with is that they had to do it. They pretty much did because he is their best young player, but also because he is in fact a proven talent. They are also not going to lure any marquee free agents as of now either because they only want to go to winning situations.

Everything you just said is wrong and inflammatory.

Trolling it seems.

The suns have no real choice but to give him what he wants. If they get in a pissing match with Booker the team is toast.

What are the suns going to do if Booker says he's going to play out the final year and test free agency? It would be the final torpedo in an already half sunk ship! We don't need a Booker Lebron combo in LA.

The suns need to pay him max money and have him immediately begin recruiting next years free agent point guards.

We match the offer and he stays a sun.

You saw the reddit post where the guy listed Dudley in front of Bender too eh?

Yup. It's funny how he's so anti-Bender. It's almost irrational how much he dislikes him. No one can compliment anything of his without Slin voicing his disdain towards Dragan. I thought it was a Chriss vs Bender thing at first, at least that's how it looked on this board, but he really lays into Bender over everything on Reddit. It's tough to think of another situation where a fan disliked a player that much. I think it goes beyond basketball though. There's some sort of personal grudge he's not letting go of.

I didn't ban him. I am fine with him being back as long as the drama is done

Thanks for the update.

I know you said the same before in an earlier post but it seems there were some lingering questions about it from posters.

I suspect Slinslin is taking a break after the draft.

Gambo says the Trevor Ariza press conference is tomorrow. Summer league starts as well on Friday. He believes this will push the Booker extension announcement to the weekend... perhaps Sunday.

What does it really matter? Seriously? He's 21 and has put up offensive stats that rival all time greats at the same level.

I just hope they've done a good job of impressing upon him what it means to be the face of the franchise. He needs to be squeaky clean, he needs to work his butt off and he needs to show up when the team does PR stuff. If he understands the importance of those things, especially working his butt off, then I couldn't care less about the years or money.
