Rotation as it stands
Gallen R
Burns R
Rodriguez L
Kelly R
Pfaadt R

Currently on the outside
R. Nelson R
Montgomery L
Henry L
Diaz R
Walston L

Guys pegged to be ready this year
Yu-Min Lin L
Cristian Mena R

Lots of arms to use to make a trade.

Ryne has to make this rotation over Kelly in my opinion. Kelly is showing wear and tear the last two seasons.

You must be registered for see images attach
Henry & Walston are not MLB caliber pitchers

Let's just hope that the Burnes signing means that Montgomery will be jettisoned soon via trade for a couple buckets of balls or a late round draft pick. I know the DBacks don't want to eat the contract, but you don't need a 6+ or 7+ ERA pitcher in the starting rotation. I guess he could be used for mop up duty if the DBacks have a 10+ run lead late in the game.
is there an overpaid Closer or DH?

What should not be lost in this is that Burnes is a massive innings eater. Burnes has pitched at least 192 innings the last 3 seasons. It should limit the work that the bullpen has to do.

The Naylor trade was also excellent news.

The Dbacks have 3 30 HR hitters to go with this pitching. We really need a right handed DH though
What are your thoughts on the DBacks possible trading an outfielder and/or starting pitcher to get a right handed DH and/or closer?

Moves likely to happen:

OF traded for a closer

Grichuck brought back to platoon DH with ADC/Pavin Smith or Montgomery traded for a platoon righty.

Montgomery stays with the team through spring training and you wait for an arm injury to trade him. There is always a big one

This is a COMPLETE STUNNER! I pretty much figured we were officially out of the starting pitcher market, let alone a Cy Young winner. This is just a stunner! Already thinking I need to watch some games this season.

That deferred salary is like getting dividends in retirement on steroids. Great deal for a young guy.

Not really. The deferrals lose value as the purchasing power of that dollar doesn't get a commiserate rise with the rate of inflation and doesn't gain interest like an investment.

Think if you deferred a million dollars from 2015 to 2025 and what that million dollars buys now.

You are right. Absolutely. The time value of money is technically the correct way to go. This is the argument to not have any w2 taxes taken out of your paycheck because you can invest that money up until tax time, pay what you owe Uncle Sam, and pocket the difference on the investment you made on that money up until it was owed.

EXCEPT, if you can't budget. Many athletes, blow through their money during their playing days and end up not having money later in life. Especially when they develop addictions. The best thing Bobby Bonilla did was to get deferred payments on his salary. He has money today that he would not have had later on in life. Basically a forced retirement plan. Is it the optimal way to go? No. Sometimes us humans aren't optimal. ;)

This is a cool read about Bobby Bonilla and deferred payments: Bobby Bonilla Day (Bernie Madoff included)
