The start of a big six-game homestand. The first place Diamondbacks take on the second place Padres.

Now that the Suns lost  I hope the Diamondbacks can get a win. Down 4-3 in the 7th.

Koplove gives up a home run and now it's 5-3 Padres in the 8th.

6-3 Padres. Bullpen can't get it done. Need a big rally.

Still some life in this team. Counsell just hit a 2-run homer to make it 7-5.

Green has been doing nothing lately. Maybe they should sit him for a few games. 7-5 in the 9th.

What was I saying in that other thread about bullpen help?

At what cost? Bullpen help is at such a "premium" now since there'a been a "widespread" epidemic of horrid relief pitching throughout the entire league...

I just hope no one tries to force Joe Jr in parting with one of our "uber" prospects in order to fill a need...Thats when the Dbacks tend to get "fleeced" when the "other side" knows how desperate the Dbacks are.....

Maybe we can trade Russ, the worst, and almost most expensive pitcher on the staff..

I'm not suggesting we trade Conor or Quentin for some average reliever. The FO needs to be throruogh and earmark who's expendable within the organization (Tracy, Hairston, and Terrero are a few examples) and who we want to trade for and see what kind of deal can be worked out. The fact remains that this team will not be able to keep pace with the Padres if our bullpen stays at the pace they are at right now. There's a huge differnce between making a kneejerk reaction and smartly filling a need.

Oh, and Ortiz blows. Everybody (other than the DBack FO apparently) that has seen Ortiz pitch or viewed his stat sheet over the past few years could tell you this guy was in serious decline.

I was not necessarily insinuating that you had suggested that the Dbacks should trade either Jackson or Quentin for a reliever, however, other GMs are aware that is a major weakness of the Dbacks and would resort to anything to exploit that....

The MAJOR question is though...what relievers are available? Urbina was at the beginning of the season, however, now since Urbina has since supplanted Percival as a closer...that elimates one option....

Would the Orioles part with Jorge Julio? I'm honestly not so sure since BJ Ryan tends to struggle once every so often.......

I know I'm emphasizing closers though... Middle-relievers.... the Indians David Riske has been rumored to be available on the trading block, but he's been pitching "lights-out" for the Indians..I just dont think them or anyone would sacrifice any relief help whatsoever since to reiterate what I said earlier is that it is essentially at a premium which is why it might take a drastic cost for the Dbacks to upgrade theirs... Hence, we'll have to accept Ligtenberg, Lopez, Koplove, etc in that role regardless of how horrid they have been....

I don't see too many teams wanting Hairston since he's a major defensive liability and inconsistent offensively since he tends to want to pull everything..

Tracy.. the Dbacks shouldnt deal him as of yet since Tony Clark (even though I've always/have been extremely impressed with contributions) cant withstand the rigours of being an every day 1B due to his lingering back problems that he's had for quite a few years.. I wouldnt want to see Green play 1B either because that would force the Dbacks to promote either Jackson or Quentin up too prematurely....

Terrero... still no true long-term solution in CF and we're not certain if Cruz Jr. is completely healthy on a short-term basis either.... Would you want to see McCracken as an every day CF? Absolutely not.....

We shall just wait and see what happens once both Lyon and Aquino have returned back and also when Valverde is back at full-strength before a move out of desperation is made....

I really doubt that any of our most tradable pieces will be able to get us an upgrade on what we already have. By all indications, Aquino and Lyon should be ready to go soon, and I am hoping (or praying, one or the other anyhow) that that will stabilize the pen. I also hope that the Dbacks go to a 7 man bullpen to help combat the fatigue, it isnt like Kata is being used anyways. Valverde has been improving since coming off the DL, and Cormier has been a big surprise this season. Along with Aquino and Lyon, that is a solid group. Im hoping Lightenberg can turn it around from his first couple of Dback games. He has solid numbers throughout his career except for last year, he could become the other solid long reliever that the Dbacks desperately need. Bruney and Koplove both have incredibly low opponent's batting average numbers but really high walks, I think Bruney will definately be on the bubble when Aquino and Lyon return. I believe that we may have the pieces to an adequate bullpen when we get a couple bodies back, and may not have to go out and get an overpriced reliever.

Matt Williams bagging on the first base ump for being out of position on a play.

7-6 Diamondbacks as Glaus and Clark go back to back. Many people don't like Clayton but he got a big hit this inning and has hit safely in 6 games straight.

Javier Lopez blows. This team will not contend if him or Koplove have to make meaningful pitches on a regular basis.

The freaking Rockies put this clown on waivers about a month ago for God's sake.

Unfortunately the Dbacks have gone to the Suns school of how to finish games. Keep giving them opportunities and they keep coming back

Game tied at 8
