Really! The Patriots handled the Colts with ease last night and they are complaining about a deflated ball. How deflated could the ball have been? This is just stupid stuff.

Doubt air pressure in the balls made a 40 point change in the out come. But yes if they can prove they broke any rule I think they should be punished harshly. Especially with their past issues.

If the temperature dropped during the game the air pressure would decrease but not by a lot. That is the job of the refs to handle that.

Don't see the advantage of them doing something like this both teams used the same balls......

The complaints are not from the Colts, they came from the officials. They took a ball from the field and weighed it. They didn't say if it was a kicking ball or a ball for scrimmage play.

Bob Kravitz ✔ @bkravitz

Told if a league investigation confirms deflated footballs it will result in lost draft picks. Stay tuned.

Not that they did, but I disagree that it wouldn't matter. Luck has much the stronger arm and a deflated ball would affect him much more than dink and dunk Brady.

so both teams would have an easier time throwing and catching or the patriots have their balls and indianapolis has theirs?
I believe the ball changes come from the pats sideline so they could pick whatever balls their ball boy sees fit

Obviously it's not the difference in the game but if they did what the NFL apparently thinks they did, they better nail them on draft picks again. Apparently the NFL thinks the Pats had properly inflated balls, and under inflated balls, on their sideline. When they were on offense, they used the properly inflated ball, when they were on defense, they used the under inflated ball. Apparently the home team controls the balls from the sideline and they were able to just give the ref the good ball for them and the flat ball for the Colts.

Apparently Andrew Luck complained early in the game the ball was under inflated and eventually at halftime the coaching staff confronted the refs, and they at some point in the game pulled out at least one and maybe 2 balls that had been put in play, so they could weigh them.

They can't forfeit the game and with that one sided a game wouldnt' be fair, but they can take draft picks from the Patriots.

+1, balls would be easier for all receivers to catch. The only thing I can think of is do deflated balls travel less that fully aired up balls? Throwing deep balls could be a factor if they don't.

For all of those saying "they use the same balls":

Deflating feeling: Patriots on defensive over footballs, culture since Spygate scandal

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/deflat...-culture-since-spygate-scandal-080638511.html

This much is undeniable: It was a wet night in Foxborough, with rain often coming down in a deluge. Deflating a football, even slightly, can aid the ability to grip the ball, an obvious advantage in passing, catching or accepting handoffs.

In the NFL, each team brings 12 Wilson footballs to the game and uses its own. As such, the Patriots' offense uses one set of footballs and those are taken off the field when possession shifts. The Colts then bring theirs into rotation. It is not uncommon for teams to try to alter, however slightly but within the acceptable limits between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds, the ball that is most agreeable to their quarterback.

No, I am fairly certain they both use different balls. Each team provides their own balls and they are marked as such. They are changed out by the ball boys on exchange of possession.

USC pulled this stuff under their slimy coach, Lane Kiffin. It's definitely a thing that happens. I wouldn't think the Pats would try something like this with their reputation for cheating and the fact they were going to stomp Indy, running away, no matter what. But what do I know? I'd think the league would immediately quash the rumors, if they were to weigh the balls and find there is nothing to it.

Maybe I'm just dumb but how does the air pressure inside the ball change its weight ?
